FISH BITES Miami continues a 10-game homestand with the finale of this quick two-game series against the Atlanta Braves today at 12:10 p.m. LHP Adam Conley is starting for Miami and in four career appearances (three starts) against Atlanta has gone 1-0 with a 5.84 ERA. The Braves are starting RHP John Gant, who is making his first career appearance against the Fish, just his third Major League start. Today's ceremonial first pitches will be thrown by Jonathon Martine, of Topps Trading Cards, and St. Kits and Nevis Patriots cricket player Samuel Badree, while the national anthem is being performed by Gianna Conte. The first 20,000 fans through the gates today will receive a Christian Yelich Trading Card, courtesy of Topps. The homestand began with Miami taking three of four from the Colorado Rockies, and will conclude with a four-game weekend set against the Chicago Cubs beginning tomorrow. Miami returned to South Florida off a 4-5 road trip to Minnesota (1-2), Arizona (1-2) and San Diego (2-1). Miami's next road swing will take them to Detroit (June 28-29), Atlanta (June 30-July 2), Fort Bragg vs. Atlanta (July 3) and the Mets (July 4-6). LAST NIGHT VS. ATLANTA José Fernández held the Braves to just one hit over 7.0 innings, and drove in a run at the plate, yet the Fish were unable to come away with the win, falling 3-2. Fernández put Miami on the board first in the second inning when he singled home Derek Dietrich. The Marlins went up 2-0 in the fourth after Adeiny Hechavarria singled home Justin Bour, who led off the frame with a double. Atlanta was able to score twice in the eighth to tie the game, and scored the gamewinner in the 10 th. Ichiro Suzuki paced the offense with two hits, while also drawing a walk, raising his season average to.353. Fernández walked two and struck out seven in his 7.0 innings of work. Kyle Barraclough (3-2) was handed the loss after giving up the decisive run in the 10 th inning. UP NEXT The Chicago Cubs come to Miami to start a four-game set starting tomorrow at 7:10 p.m. The two teams played to a 3-3 draw last season, which saw Miami go 2-1 here at Marlins Park. The Fish own a 43-42 advantage in South Florida, which includes a 7-6 mark at Marlins Park, and the all-time series is knotted at 89-89. Chris Johnson has flourished against the Cubs, posting a lifetime.342 average (51x149). It is the second-highest average against Chicago among active players (min. 125 AB), behind Miguel Cabrera's.348 (56x161). HIT ME NOT In his last start, Adam Conley limited a potent Colorado Rockies offense to just one hit over 5.2 innings, and did not allow the lone hit until there were two outs in the sixth. It was the third start this season where he has no-hit an opponent through the first five innings of a start; he tossed 7.2 hitless innings on April 29 at Milwaukee, and held Pittsburgh hitless over the first five in a six-inning appearance on June 1 at Marlins Park. Chase Anderson, R. A. Dickey and Marco Estrada have each held their opponents without a hit through five innings in two starts this season. - Elias BUYING IN Since starting the season 5-11 through April 23, Miami has turned the corner and gone 32-23 over its last 55 games. The Marlins.582 winning percentage since April 24 is the third-highest in the National League, behind San Francisco (.679; 36-17) and the Cubs (.667; 34-17). BUSTING OUT Giancarlo Stanton has been slowly breaking out of the worst slide of his career. In 27 games from May 7-June 12, Stanton hit just.112 (11x98) with two home runs and five RBI. Over his last seven games, he has hit.360 (9x25) with one home run and three RBI. He has recorded at least one hit in four of his last five, batting.381 (8x21) in that time. RAGING BULL(PEN) Miami's bullpen has shown its strength over the last 12 games, allowing a total of nine runs over 40.2 innings for a 1.99 ERA, holding the Major League's lowest bullpen ERA since June 9. Boston comes in second at 2.12, followed by Arizona at 2.33. The 'pen is also limiting opponents to a.153 average in that same span, which is also the lowest in MLB, ahead of Boston (.167) and Arizona (.170). HOME TURNAROUND Over its first eight home games this season, Miami went just 1-7 with a team batting average of.243. In that time, the offense hit just five home runs while the pitching staff owned a 5.04 ERA. Since April 21, the Marlins have gone 16-11 at Marlins Park, which has brought their home record this season to 17-18. Their.593 winning percentage at home since that date is the third-best in the National League, behind the Cubs (21-8;.724) and San Francisco (19-9;.679). The Fish are batting.261 at home over that span, fourth-best in the National League, and have clubbed 25 home runs, while the staff has pitched to a 3.57 ERA, which ranks sixth in the NL. TIGHTENING THE GLOVES The Marlins have gone 22 consecutive games without committing more than one error in a game. Since May 29, Miami has made the fewest errors in the Majors (3), while holding the best fielding percentage (.996; 791 TC/3 E) in MLB. Through 21 days in the month of June, the Fish have made just two errors. In comparison, through the first 21 days of May, Miami committed 13 miscues. SHUTTING THE DOOR A.J. Ramos earned his 22 nd save of the season Saturday in his 22 nd opportunity, extending his Club record for consecutive saves to open a season. Ramos has converted 31 straight save opportunities dating back to last season, marking the third-longest active streak among Major League relievers. Brad Ziegler has successfully converted each of his last 43 opportunities, while Jeurys Familia has saved 39 straight. Ramos' current streak is the second-longest in Club history, behind Steve Cishek's 33. He did not factor in the decision in a 5-1 win on June 17 vs. Colorado; he allowed just one run on one hit and five walks (two intentional) over 5.2 innings, with five strikeouts. In that start against Colorado, did not allow a hit until the sixth inning. It was the third time this year he has taken a no-hitter into the sixth inning, which leads the Majors, according to Elias. Is making second start of the season against Atlanta, the third of his career (fourth appearance). Faced them on May 27 at Turner FIeld and allowed two runs on eight hits and a walk, with three strikeouts, over 4.1 innings in a 4-2 loss. Has fared better on road this year than at home, posting 2-1 record and 3.83 ERA in visiting ballparks. At home, is 1-3 with 4.09 ERA. Over career, has gone 5-1 with 3.99 ERA in 16 road appearances (14 starts), compared to a 2-4 record and 3.69 ERA in 13 appearances (11 starts) at Marlins Park. Went 3-2, 3.40 (42.1/16) over first eight starts of season, and Club was 5-3. In his last six starts, he is 0-2, 4.64 (33.0/17), and team is 2-4. Receiving just 2.18 runs of support over last six outings, compared to 4.46 over first eight. His bb/9.0 rate has also gone up from 3.40 over first eight starts to 4.91 over last six. In start on June 12 at Arizona, surrendered career-high 11 hits in 6-0 loss. Allowed all six runs (five earned) with a walk and two strikeouts over 5.0 innings. Prior to that start, had not allowed more than nine hits in any of his previous 23 starts. After four straight starts with at least seven hits allowed, he returned to early season form on June 1 vs. Pittsburgh, holding Buccos scoreless on two hits and three walks over 6.0 innings, with nine strikeouts. The nine K s tied a career high (also, April 13, 2016 at the Mets). In start on May 22 vs. Washington, suffered third loss of season after allowing season-high six runs and career-high seven walks (three intentional). The seven walks were most by a Marlins starting pitcher since Jarred Cosart issued eight walks on September 26, 2014. Earned second win of season on May 5 vs. Arizona. Allowed two hits and a walk while striking out six over 5.1 innings. Did not allow a hit until fourth inning, running consecutive hitless innings streak to 11.2. Marked longest such streak by starter in Majors this season, and longest by a starter in Club history. It ranks as second-longest overall, behind Armando Benitez s 14.0 hitless innings from May 4-June 4, 2004. In addition, he tied the Marlins record for fewest hits allowed (2) in a two-start stretch, equaling accomplishment of Al Leiter in May of 1996. Earned first win after no-hitting Milwaukee over 7.2 frames on April 29 at Miller Park. Walked four and struck out seven in longest start by Marlins starter this season. In research provided by Elias, Conley, who left the game with a 5-0 lead after throwing 116 pitches, is first pitcher in Major League history to be removed from a start with a lead after pitching at least 7.2 innings without allowing a hit. The previous all-time record had been established just three weeks before, when Dodgers rookie Ross Stripling pitched 7.1 hitless innings in his Major League debut on April 8 at San Francisco.
