FISH BITES The Marlins open a three-game series here in Atlanta tonight at 7:35 p.m. Right-hander Dan Straily (4-4, 3.89), who is facing the Braves for just the third time in his career and second this season, has posted a lifetime 1-1 record and 7.71 ERA against them. Atlanta is countering with LHP Sean Newcomb (0-1, 0.00), who is making his first career start against Miami and the second Major League start of his career. Miami came into this series after sweeping a two-game set against Oakland at Marlins Park. The two-game series was preceded by a seven-game road trip to Chicago (1-2) and Pittsburgh (2-2). Following this series, the Marlins will return home to begin a 10-game homestand against the Nationals (June 19-21), Cubs (June 22-25), and Mets (June 27-29). WEDNESDAY AGAINST OAKLAND Miami fought back from an early deficit to sweep a two-game series against Oakland with an 11-6 win. With the Marlins trailing 4-0 after the top of the second, Marcell Ozuna and Tyler Moore cut the lead in half with solo home runs in the bottom of the frame. In the third, the Marlins manufactured two runs, one on a RBI single by Christian Yelich and one a groundout by Ozuna, to tie the game. Oakland regained the lead with a run in the fourth, but Miami responded with three runs in the home half of the inning to take the lead for good. In the fifth, Ichiro Suzuki recorded a pinch-hit single to become the all-time Interleague hits leader, the 365th of his career. Each of the top four batters in Miami's lineup recorded two-hit games, while combining to drive in eight of Miami's 11 runs. Kyle Barraclough (2-1) came on in relief of Edinson Volquez, earning the win with a scoreless fifth inning. ELIAS SAYS Marcell Ozuna was 2x5 with a home run in the Marlins come-from-behind win over the Athletics on Wednesday. Ozuna is batting.408 since May 27, and over that stretch he has had a National League-high five games with at least two hits, including a home run. AGAINST THE BRAVES The Marlins are 2-3 against the Braves this season, and are looking to improve on a 7-11 campaign in 2016. The Fish trail the series in Atlanta, 76-123 (8-17 at Fulton County Stadium and 68-106 at Turner Field), and also trail the all-time series, 168-232. BREAKING IN NEW BALLPARKS In research provided by Stats LLC, the Marlins have gone 24-20-5 all-time in the first series played at a new ballpark, including Joe Robbie Stadium and Marlins Park. This will be the third new ballpark played at in Atlanta. The Marlins took both games of a two-game series in their first visit to Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium from April 28-29, 1993. They also won both games of a two-game set at Turner Field on May 13-14, 1997. TODAY'S TRANSACTIONS The Marlins today optioned C Tomás Telis to Triple-A New Orleans and reinstated INF Justin Bour from the 10-day disabled list. Bour missed eight games with a left ankle contusion. HERE'S TO ANOTHER ONE For Marlins Hall of Fame broadcaster Dave Van Horne, tonight marks another special night in his storied career. SunTrust Park will represent the 56th stadium in which he has called a Major League game. Tonight will mark the second consecutive season in which Van Horne will call a game in a new stadium against the Braves, as these two teams squared off at Fort Bragg on July 3, 2016. Not to be outdone, Ichiro Suzuki's first appearance at SunTrust Park will mark the 42nd stadium he has played in; he is tied for second-most among active players with Carlos Beltran, behind Adrian Beltre (44). - Stats LLC STANDING OUT AGAINST SOUTHPAWS As a team, Miami ranks third in the National League and fifth in the Majors with a.272 (126x464) average against left-handed pitchers.
