Notes from June: Alice Ward s memorial service was well attended by WVSC members both past and present. Alice was a long time member and friend to the club and many of us. The cupola has been reinstalled on the clubhouse roof and looks great. Many thanks to Steve Kubin and Randy Malcom who built a new and betterdesigned cupola and to the Wednesday Breakfast Group who helped remove the old one and replace the new one. Thanks also to new member Justin Dyke for roofing the cupola area of the clubhouse and sticking around to help with the installation. Tedd Blankenship filled the hole in the dinghy dock ramp. The US Sailing instructor training session was completed with compliments about our hospitality. The participants were especially thankful for the lunches provided by members. See the article in this issue for more details. A dock board on A-Dock broke when a member stepped on it. The board was replaced by Paul Schye, Dave Bonifield, and me. Paul and I have also replaced and repaired a few more boards on A-Dock. There are a few more boards to replace and several to repair. The harbor committee will schedule a work party to address some, or all, of these concerns. Members having concerns about specific boards may contact Dave Bonifield or Paul Schye, who will add them to the to-do list as appropriate. A portion of the main walkway on A-Dock has been pressure-washed which cleans it and greatly improves its appearance. Jim Smith donated an electric pressure washer that A-Dock members are encouraged to use to clean their slip fingers. The pressure washer can be found in one of the sheds in the parking lot or in the dry storage building. Following electrical problems observed on B-Dock June 16, Bill s Electric was for a check-up and possible solutions. Problems that day were attributed to simple overload due to numerous air conditioners, refrigerators, etc. in use that day. WVSC plans to consult an electrical engineering firm to learn more. Just a reminder to empty the clubhouse trash if it s full, report any problems or solutions to a BOG member or committee chair, and enjoy your time at the club and sailing! The July sailing event is a poker run followed by a casual BBQ dinner. Everyone is encouraged to participate either as a contestant or by passing out cards from an anchored boat. Poker runs are simple fun and the normal postevent gathering by the clubhouse will be supplemented by some BBQ. Details will be mailed in a flyer. Hope to see you there. -Charlie www.wvsailing.com

Page 2 WVSC hosted the US Sailing Level One Instructor training course on June 7-10. Instructors from NSA and WVSC attended the four day intensive course that upon completion, certified the instructor to teach small boat sailing. Our new instructors are Cole Stinson, Hayden Griffin, Kai Wernli and Deann Gadalla. Over the course of four days sailors test on sailing skills, motorboat skills, teaching skills as well as advanced sail trim. Upon successful passing of several written and performance tests, instructors are then given a US Sailing certification for instruction. All of the new instructors will be teaching in the club's "Learn to Sail" program this summer. Many thanks to the people that helped with hospitality during the training course. Food, drink and dessert were provided by Julie and Richard Barth, Gene and Barbara Nold, Gary and Jayne Pierce, Ernie and Ardie Condon, Steve and Genee Kubin, Eric and Cheryl Wertheimer and Rob and Ginger Brown. Also, thank you to the club members that kept the clubhouse looking nice and provided hot coffee every morning to the attendees.
