MEMBERSHIP NEWS Each year, new members as well as those re joining 4 H must fill out a new enrollment form. The forms are included with this newsle er. To par cipate in 4 H for the 2017 2018 school year, you must have your forms turned in no later than December 22nd, although we hope you will get involved before then! THURSDAY AUGUST 17 THROUGH SUNDAY, AUGUST 27TH LET S GO TO THE KY STATE FAIR! It s me for the KY State Fair. Get ready to explore exhibits, watch world champion horses, roosters crow and best of all, visit the West Wing to see Cloverville! The date for the Kentucky State Fair is Aug. 17 27. Cloverville is a village like area located in the West Hall of the Kentucky Exposi on Center in Louisville, where 4 H er get to showcase their very best work to the en re state. Besides 4 H Cloverville exhibits, Washington County 4 H members will be par cipa ng in the 4 H Country Ham Contest, 4 H Rabbit Show, Swine Show and District 5 4 H Day. Be watching for results in the Springfield Sun, our Facebook page and in a future 4 H newsle er.
SUMMER IN REVIEW The summer kicked off early with the 4 H Rally Day held in Grayson County. Congratula ons to our speech and fashion revue par cipants: Hunter Bartley, Grant Matherly, Blake Arnold, Katherine Noel, Madelaine Gilmore, Adriana Ramey and Stacey Nally and star ng the last week in May and throughout June, 4 H members competed in the District 4 H Horse Show, State 4 H Horse Events, livestock/country ham events and numerous district shoo ng sports compe ons. June 12 th 15 th was State 4 H Teen Conference and July 5th 8th was a fun filled week at 4 H Camp. July included the State 4 H Horse Show, State Communica ons Day and again numerous 4 H shoo ng sports compe ons. One of the most fun July events was the three day Super Star Chef workshop at the extension office. Now 4 H members are preparing for the KY State Fair and State 4 H Shoo ng Sports compe on and we want you to join us for the NEW 4 H CLUB YEAR! WASHINGTON CO. FAIR AT THE SORGHUM FESTIVAL Don t forget there is lots of fun happening during the Sorghum Fes val including the Washington Co. Fair exhibits that will be located in the old Louisville Store. The county fair catalog will be available star ng the end of August. Exhibits will be accepted on Friday, September 29 th between 2:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. and will open for display on both September 30th and October 1st. Pickup will be between 3:00 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 3rd. For more informa on, call the Washington County Extension Office at 336 7741 LIVESTOCK AND COUNTY HAM CLUB PROJECT CLUBS THAT REORGANIZE THIS FALL IN SEPTEMBER: The 4 H Young Riders will greet new members on September 18 th, 6:00 p.m. at the Washington Co. Extension Office. Remember, you don t have to own a horse to have fun and learn about horses. The 4 H Spurs and Furs will hold their first mee ng on Tuesday, September 19 th, 6:30 p.m. at the WCEO. Find out all of the informa on you ever wanted to know about poultry and rabbits! IN OCTOBER: Calling all youth that want to learn to sew or sharpen skills already gained through 4 H sewing! The first organiza onal mee ng of the Best Sew ers in Town 4 H Club (for all sewing years, first year and advanced) will take place in October, the date to be announced. Parents are encouraged to a end with the youth for the one hour mee ng. IN NOVEMBER: The 4 H Sharpshooters will hold an orienta on night for new members on Thursday, November 2 nd, 6:30 p.m. at the extension office. This will give 4 Her s and parents an opportunity to find out what the club offers and to ask ques ons. We look forward to seeing many new members on November 2 nd! 4 H Hooves & Horns/Country Ham club will meet on November 14th, 6:30 at the Extension Office.
