Jarred Cosart is making his first career start and appearance against the Giants. He is being opposed by Tim Lincecum, who in seven career starts against the Fish has gone 2-3 with a 3.83 ERA. Miami is coming off its second-best nine-game homestand in Club history, going 7-2 against Washington (3-0), the Mets (2-1) and Philadelphia (2-1). The Marlins current road swing started with the Fish dropping two of three to the Washington Nationals, and following this series, will travel to Chavez Ravine for a three-game series against the Dodgers (May 11-13). VS. THE GIANTS Miami dropped the 2014 season series against San Francisco, 3-4, but split the four-game series in the City by the Bay. Since 2010, Miami has enjoyed great success at AT&T Park, going 14-5, laying claim to the highest winning percentage (.737) at AT&T among visiting teams in that span. Marlins pitchers own a 2.85 ERA (173.2 ip/55 er) in that time, marking the second-lowest ERA among visiting National League teams (St. Louis-2.12). The offense has also posted the second-highest average (.266) at AT&T Park since 2010, behind only Cincinnati (.283). Giancarlo Stanton has flourished against the Giants in his career, owning the highest slugging percentage (.731) against them in Major League history (min. 125 PA). Mark McGwire ranks second at.717 and Hank Leiber is third at.683. - Stats LLC LAST NIGHT The Marlins erupted for a season-high 17 hits in their 7-2 win over the San Francisco Giants. Miami started the scoring with three runs in the second inning, with two coming home on a RBI double by Dan Haren. Haren was then brought home on a RBI double by Dee Gordon. The Marlins added another in the fifth to go up 4-0, as Haren scored on a sac fly by Giancarlo Stanton. Marcell Ozuna chipped in with his first home run of the season, a two-run shot to left field in the seventh. Stanton concluded the scoring, with a RBI single in the ninth. Gordon and Martin Prado, Miami s 1-2 hitters, each had 3x5 nights. Stanton, Ozuna, Michael Morse, Adeiny Hechavarria and Haren all chipped in two hits each. Haren (4-1) had as much success on the mound as he did at the plate, earning the win after allowing two runs on eight hits while walking none and striking out three over 7.0 innings. ELIAS SAYS... Marlins second baseman Dee Gordon became the first player in the Majors to record 50 hits this season with his RBI double in the second inning of Miami s game in San Francisco on Thursday night. Gordon reached the 50-hit mark as a second baseman in his 28 th game of the season, the fastest that any Major-Leaguer has done so since Rogers Hornsby got there in 28 games for the Cardinals in 1924 (the year he hit.424). HITTING AND RUNNING Last night, Dan Haren went 2x3 with two runs scored and two RBI at the plate. He became the 17 th pitcher in last 10+ seasons to have at least two hits, runs and RBI in same game. The last pitcher to do so was Zack Greinke on September 13, 2014 at San Francisco. Haren is also just the fifth Marlins pitcher ever to have such a day at the plate: the last to have as many hits, runs and RBI in the same game was Dontrelle Willis (3 H, 2 R, 3 RBI) on September 20, 2006 at Shea Stadium. GORDON S FLASHY STYLE Dee Gordon leads the Majors with his.437 average and 52 hits. He has hit safely in 25 of his 28 games played this season, and currently owns a 12-game hitting streak, which is the longest active streak in the Majors. Over the streak, he has hit at a.560 clip (28x50) and recorded multiple hits in nine of the 12 games. Gordon is second in the Majors with 15 multi-hit games, behind Matt Carpenter s 16. Of Gordon s 15, nine have been 3+ hit games, which leads the Majors. HITS KEEP COMING Dee Gordon is the first player since Rod Carew in 1983 to record as many as 52 hits through his first 28 games of the season. Gordon is just the fifth player since 1914 to have as many as 52 hits through his first 28 games, and only the second player to do so since 1960. See complete list, courtesy of Stats LLC, at right. 1-2 PUNCH So far this season, Miami owns the most potent 1-2 combination in the Majors with a.347 (84x242) combined average. Dee Gordon leads all Major League leadoff hitters with a.437 (52x119) average, and since taking over for Christian Yelich in the two hole, Martin Prado has hit.333 (21x63), which is tied for third in MLB among qualifying hitters. The Yankees rank second at.336, followed by Detroit (.311), St. Louis (.300) and Kansas City (.297). - Stats LLC WEST COAST IS THE BEST COAST Over his career, Giancarlo Stanton has excelled when playing against the National League West. Since 2010, his.687 slugging percentage against the West leads the Majors (min. 500 AB), ahead of Freddie Freeman (.556). He has tallied 48 home runs against NL West opponents, which are the most among active players for non-nl West teams; Ryan Braun ranks second with 30. Stanton has connected for 11 career home runs against the Giants, tied with Troy Tulowitzki for fourth-most against the Giants since 2010, trailing Carlos Gonzalez (13), Matt Kemp (13) and Paul Goldschmidt (12). Stanton s 11 home runs, however, have come in just 136 career plate appearances in that time, compared to 310 for Gonzalez, 339 for Kemp, 279 for Goldschmidt and 242 for Tulowitzki.
