He will be opposed by Hialeah native Gio Gonzalez, who has gone 6-2 with a 1.67 ERA (54.0/10) in eight career starts against the Fish. Today s National Anthem is being performed by City of Hialeah Goodlet Theater Performing Arts Center s Eduardo Ruben. This afternoon is Autism Awareness Day at Marlins Park. Fans who purchased the Autism Awareness Day VIP special event package received a Lexus Legends Level game ticket, an exclusive Marlins Autism Awareness puzzle and access to a fair in the Lexus Legends Level. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to local Autism groups. Following today s game, the homestand will continue tomorrow with the Marlins playing host to the Mets (April 27-29) in a three-game series, and following an off-day Thursday, will see Philadelphia come to town (May 1-3) for a three-game series next weekend. VS. THE NATIONALS The Marlins were 6-13 vs. the Nationals last season, just 3-7 in Miami, including dropping the last five games at Marlins Park. The Marlins have won just three of their last 11 games overall against Washington. The Fish are 102-79 all-time at home versus the Nationals franchise, and 15-15 at Marlins Park. Overall, the Marlins are 191-165 against the Nationals franchise, 100-83 since they moved to Washington. Miami is looking for its first three-game sweep of the Nationals since taking three-straight from May 28-30, 2012 at Marlins Park. UP NEXT Miami will welcome the New York Metropolitans to Marlins Park for a three-game set beginning tomorrow night at 7:10 p.m. The Marlins were swept in a four-game series at Citi Field last week, and have come away victorious in just three of their last 15 against the Mets. Miami has gone 90-88 against New York at home, including a 16-13 mark at Marlins Park, yet trail the all-time series, 172-189. YESTERDAY Miami posted its first shutout of the season, blanking the Washington Nationals, 8-0. Giancarlo Stanton put Miami on the board first in the fourth inning with a RBI double to score Martin Prado, and two batters later, Justin Bour drove in Stanton for a 2-0 lead. In the sixth, Bour struck again, driving in Stanton with a RBI single to center field. The Marlins second run in the inning came across when Marcell Ozuna scored on a double-play ball off the bat of J.T. Realmuto. The Fish blew the game open in the eighth on a solo home run by Stanton, his fifth of the year, and a three-run shot by Adeiny Hechavarria. Stanton finished the afternoon 3x3 with three runs scored, Bour went 2x3 with two RBI and Ichiro Suzuki finished 2x4 with a run scored. Tom Koehler (2-2) picked up the win, allowing just six hits and one walk while striking out four over 7.1 innings. ELIAS SAYS... Giancarlo Stanton singled, doubled, and homered in three official at-bats in the Marlins 8-0 home win over the Nationals yesterday. Stanton improved his lifetime slugging percentage against Washington to.705. The only other active player who can boast of a slugging average of over.700 versus any team (minimum 200 AB) is Albert Pujols, also against the Expos/Nats (.728). SETTLING IN Over the first 14 games of the season, Miami s starting rotation posted a 2-9 record with a 5.30 ERA (71.1/42), with only five starts lasting 6.0 innings. Over the last four contests, Marlins starters have gone 6.0+ innings in each start, limiting opponents to just three runs in 26.2 innings, and lay claim to the lowest starting ERA in that span. The bullpen has done its share, as well, surrendering just one run in 9.1 innings (0.96 ERA) since April 22. ABOUT FACE In his first nine games to start the season, Giancarlo Stanton hit just.200 (6x30) with two doubles and seven RBI. Over his last nine, he has rebounded by hitting.314 (11x35) with nine runs scored, three doubles, five home runs and nine RBI. He leads the National League in home runs (5) and RBI (13) since April 13, and is tied with two others for third in runs scored (11). JUST KEEP SWINGING Adeiny Hechavarria swung a torrid bat on Miami s last road trip, posting a.462 average (18x39) with one home run and nine RBI, and continued his streak with a 1x4 effort yesterday. Since April 13, Hechavarria leads the Majors in runs scored (13) and hits (21), and ranks second in average (.457; 21x46) behind Nick Markakis (.471; 16x34). He has recorded at least one hit in each of his last eight games, batting.452 (14x31) over the streak, and owns one of seven current hitting streaks of eight-or-more games among National League hitters. Matt Carpenter has the longest current streak at 12 games, followed by A.J. Pierzynski s nine-game run. SINGLING HIMSELF OUT Dee Gordon has recorded 28 hits this season, tied with Adam Jones for the Major League lead.. Of his 28 hits, 23 have been singles, which is the most by any Marlin through the first 18 games of a season. In addition, Gordon also leads the Majors with nine infield hits and is tied with four others for the lead in reaching base on errors (3). ADDING UP RUNS Ichiro Suzuki, with a run scored last night, unofficially surpassed Sadaharu Oh as the all-time runs leader by a Japanese player. Suzuki has seven runs on the season and 1,310 in his Major League career. In his Japanese career with the Orix Blue Wave, Ichiro scored 658 runs, giving him a combined 1,968 runs scored. Oh scored 1,967 runs in his career, entirely in Japan. DEE-FEAT PARKINSON S MARLINS VS.
