CELEBRATING 18 YEARS OF SINGLES GOLF IN AMERICA Indianapolis Chapter - American Singles Golf Association March 2011 Notes from The Prez It is early March and we are still about two months away from the official start of our Indianapolis ASGA season. This year s season opener is on the weekend of May 7 th and will again be in Jasper, Indiana at Sultan s Run. However, we all know that April can have some very nice spring days so keep an eye on your email and the Meetup website for notices from our Golf Chair (Alan Butler) when those days occur on a weekend. He may have the opportunity to arrange an outing or two before the May 7 th weekend. Plus one of the great things about this group is that you can always arrange your own little outing with other ASGA members by simply giving them a call or sending them an email and asking if they want to play a round (not to be confused with play around) on any given day. And if you login to the national ASGA website at www.singlesgolf.com you can view our chapter s roster and see who is available to play on weekdays if that better fits your schedule. As you all know, it takes a lot of volunteer time and effort to keep this group going. Two of the most time consuming positions we have are Social Chairperson (Linda Simpkins) and Golf Chairperson (Alan Butler). Their position titles are misleading though, in that they suggest there is a committee for which they chair. Well, that is not the case. There is no committee. They do everything themselves, and believe me, they have a lot to do and could use some help. I am sure they both have suggestions on ways to help, but I have a couple of my own. To assist Linda we are looking for one individual to be the group s Secretary. No, you do not have to take dictation, pick up my dry cleaning (though if you offer I may take you up on it), answer the phone, or do anything else like that. All you have to do is attend the monthly meetings (eleven per year our holiday party takes the place of the December meeting) and take the minutes. Then within a few days just send them to our Database Chair so they can be distributed to all of the members. If you are willing to do that, please let me or Linda know. And FYI, our meetings are on the third Tuesday of each month, beginning at 6:15. To assist Alan, probably one of the best things you can do is volunteer to host a golf outing or two. We currently have 63 members in our chapter and about 26 weeks of golf, so if only a third of you volunteer the season will be well covered. If you want details on the duties of a host, let me or Alan know, and we will send you the list. Come on, go for it, just this once. And you can even pair up with a friend and co-host an outing. Changing direction, here are a few days to celebrate in March: 5 th Multiple Personality Day; 15th Everything You Do is Wrong Day; 16th Everything You Do is Right Day; 20th Extraterrestrial Abductions Day; 28th Something on a Stick Day. Members attending were Linda Simpkins, Larry Deschler, Letha Sullivan, Barb Cressman, Jim McCarthy, Lisa Bunch, Jeanette Vance, Alan Butler, Jon Hannis, and Jerry Beck. We began with a glimpse into the art of making chocolate candies at Schakalod Chocolate Factory. Check out the pictures online at the Meetup.com website to see members making golf ball lollipops and dipping marshmallows. The group then walked next door to Ted s Montana Grill for dinner and the meeting. Alan Butler, golf chair, reported on the results of the course selection ballots so far. Only fourteen ballots have been returned to Alan Butler, golf chair in regard to preferences/ selection of golf courses to play this season and input regarding other golf outings such as the Nine and Dines. If you have not already, please submit your ballots to Alan ASAP. Lisa Bunch, membership chair, is going to be working on our Meetup.com database and will be removing those who haven t responded to anything in over one year. Bowling continues to go well. Sultan s Run season opener in Jasper, Indiana on Saturday May 7th and Sunday May 8th has been posted on Meetup.com. Go to www.meetup.com for more details. March 5 th was bowling at Woodland Bowl. It was the last week for bowling and there was a roll off! Afterwards we went to Cooper s Hawk Winery and Restaurant. Bowling Awards will be acknowledged at our March 15 th monthly meeting and social at Mo s Irish Pub in Noblesville.. Be sure to come and join us, can t be too early to drink some green beer for St Patty s Day.
