I-215 / NEWPORT ROAD INTERCHANGE PROJECT Fact Sheet Project Overview This project will reconstruct the existing interchange located on Interstate 215 (I-215) at in the City of Menifee. The proposed improvements would reconstruct the existing diamond interchange into a partial cloverleaf interchange configuration, with northbound and southbound loop on-ramps. The existing bridge would be widened to accommodate six through lanes of traffic, including outside shoulders that will be used as bike lanes and a sidewalk on the north side of the bridge. Traffic volumes are forecast to grow to Vehicles per day traveling on in 2030. 62,000 Construction Duration April 2015 - Winter Construction Bid $31 Million Location Existing Condition/Need is an east-west arterial located in southwestern Riverside County, which provides critical access to and from the freeway system and is a gateway to the City of Menifee. The current interchange is a diamond type configuration that requires left turns from for accessing the freeway. Currently, cars back up from the Haun Road and Antelope Road intersections, blocking the freeway ramp intersections. Cars waiting to turn left to access the freeway back up into through lanes on blocking traffic. The City of Menifee and the Riverside County Transportation Department is advising motorists to be aware of traffic pattern changes around the I 215 and interchange. Demolition of the south bridge will begin as early as Monday, April 4, with reconstruction of the new bridge to follow immediately after. Traffic Merge Construction crews will shift traffic onto the north side of the bridge and the traffic merge will run in both directions from April through October. In this temporary configuration, the eastbound traffic will include two through lanes, one dedicated left turn lane for the northbound I 215 on ramp, and one dedicated right turn lane for the southbound I 215 on ramp. Westbound traffic will include two through lanes, and one dedicated right turn lane for the northbound I 215 on ramp. Lane Closures and Night Work In order to safely demolish the bridge, construction activities will require nighttime full freeway closures in both directions of the I 215 on Friday and Saturday nights.
