Legacy Jr. High School Pep Squad/Cheerleading Class Disclosure Mrs. Land and Mrs. Johnson jland@dsdmail.net mcjohnson@dsdmail.net School Phone Number: 402-4700 The purposes of Legacy Jr. High School s Pep Squad and cheerleading class are: To provide school spirit and support during school time and at school activities. To teach, enhance, and develop leadership skills and improve the technical and cheerleading skills of students. To improve the self esteem and ability to organize time and responsibilities of its members. Membership Anyone wishing to be a member of Legacy Junior High School s Pep Squad class will be admitted into the class regardless of ability. Requirements and Expectations There is a $50.00 uniform fee for the class. This covers the cost of clothing to be worn to games and on game days. All members must attend and be on time to all practices scheduled by the faculty advisor. Rehearsals may be before or after school. Excessive tardies and missed rehearsals will result in loss of points and possible removal from the routine. Members are required to attend all performances (assemblies, games, half times, etc.) The only exception I will make to this rule is for those who are also participating on an LJH sports team they will be excused from cheering at games to participate with the sports team. All members will be required to wear assigned cheer attire on game days and other spirit activities. Failure to wear the assigned clothing (even if only a part is missing) will result in sitting out of a game/performance and/or loss of points on your grade. It is important that members are hard-working and have a positive attitude. Dress Code It is important that members dress appropriately for class, practices, and games/performances. If it is in the school dress code, it also pertains to class. All game attire and practice clothes will adhere to the dress code. Proper Class Attire: A form-fitting white T-shirt with your first and last name printed neatly on the front in permanent marker. (You may use your PE shirt) Black or Dark blue gym shorts. (Cheer shorts are allowed in class) Black or Dark blue work out or dance pants are acceptable when weather is colder or we are dancing. Socks Athletic/ tennis shoes (They must be well fitting and LACE UP) Improper and Unacceptable Dance Attire: Big, baggy clothes that hide the body and create a safety issue Shirts and tops that don t reach the navel with arms lifted. Pants made of fabric that restrict movement (such as denim) and/or extend past the heel and could be slipped on Short shorts and hot pants Socks without tennis shoes Tennis shoes without socks NO JEWELRY IS ALLOWED IN CLASS! This is a safety issue and must be completely adhered to. Grades: Attendance and Participation 30% Performances, Games, Half-times, & Assemblies 40% Tests, quizzes, assignments 30%

Attendance and Participation: You begin each day with 10 points for coming on time and being prepared for class. Attendance and participation are crucial for progression. You lose points by being absent, tardy, not wearing proper practice attire, breaking class rules, disturbing the class, sluffing, sitting out, chewing gum, eating food, etc. Each member will receive 2 T-shirts, (1navy, 1 red) and a personalized hoodie. (This is what the $50 class fee is for.) The game schedule below lists what shirt is worn to which game. NO CREDIT WILL BE GIVEN AT GAMES IF NOT WEARING THE PROPER SHIRT. Each student will be issued a set of Pom Pons with numbers on the handle for the semester. These Poms are the responsibility of the individual student and must be returned at the end of the semester or a $13.00 fee PER POM will be assessed. Poms may be kept in a gym locker, school locker, or at home, but must be brought to every game. IF A STUDENT DOES NOT HAVE THEIR POMS AT A GAME THEY WILL ONLY RECEIVE HALF CREDIT FOR THAT GAME. Performances, Games, Half-times, Assemblies: This category covers cheer responsibilities and spirit assignments. You receive 50 points each game attended and 100 points for each Pep Assembly/performance. Pep Club is required to attend 10 of the 15 home games during the semester. To receive full credit you must be sitting in your seat in the stands at 3:10 PM dressed in proper game attire with your poms. If you are later than 3:10 PM, you will receive half credit for that game. If you are not wearing proper game attire, you will receive NO credit for the game. If you fail in your responsibility to bring your assigned clothing/uniform, or miss a required practice, you forfeit cheering/performing and receiving points. Pep club members are required to participate in all pep assemblies. You must remember your locker combination. Do not tell anyone else your combination. There is great potential for theft in the locker room, and neither I nor the school is responsible for lost or stolen items. Taking things that don t belong to you is unacceptable and punishable by law. Attendance and Tardy Policy: You will be given 5 minutes at the beginning of class to change, and 7 minutes at the end of class. Roll will be taken 5 minutes after the tardy bell has rung. You may not leave the gym area until the bell rings at the end of class. Class members must take care of bathroom needs either before or after class time. You are allowed 1 tardy per term without it affecting your grade. 5 participation points will be subtracted from your daily points for any additional tardys. If you are not fully dressed for class, you will lose points. 7 points will be lost for not dressing completely or wearing improper clothing, and 5 points will be lost for being partially dressed or for not wearing proper shoes. You are allowed one sick day per term. If you are too sick to dance, you must still dress in order to receive dress points. Also, you must pay attention and take notes on what we are doing in class to receive participation points. If you are sick more that three consecutive days you must have a doctor s note explaining the situation. Citizenship Grade: For the most part, citizenship will be determined by the school tardy policy. A student s citizenship grade will also be determined by their classroom behavior and game etiquette and we will give a subjective grade based upon that. Any cheating, plagiarism, or dishonorable conduct will result in a U for the term for all students involved. Any student acting out or being disrespectful to a substitute teacher will automatically receive a U for the term. If a student realizes they are in trouble in citizenship and comes to Mrs. Land/Mrs. Johnson, we will work with them to correct the situation. Absent/Late Work: It is the STUDENT S responsibility to check with Mrs. Land/Mrs. Johnson to see what was covered and what needs to be made up during an absence. If you know you are going to be absent, please get the work ahead of time. If the student was ill, it is their responsibility to check for make-up work. Late work will be accepted up to 5 days late for 70% credit. After 5 days it is too late and will not be given credit. No Name Papers: We will put any paper without a name on it in a box marked no names. It is considered late for up to 5 days after it has been recorded into the on-line grade book. After that, it will be placed in the recycling.

Extra Credit: You may complete extra credit assignments by attending an approved, live performances and writing a critique on it, or a teacher approved project or writing assignment. You may also receive 25 point for each extra game attended.(over the 10 minimum) Class Rules 1. Commitment: give 100% all the time! 2. Safety: be safe and smart in class (includes no gum and no socks) 3. Respect: for Mrs. Land/Mrs. Johnson and for each other, as well as for yourselves 4. Responsibility: be prepared and on time We are excited to work with you in Pep Squad this year! Let s have fun! Mrs. Johnson & Mrs. Land

Legacy Jr. High School Pep Squad Class Disclosure Signature Page I, and I,, have read and will (Student) (Parent) support the attached Pep Club Disclosure. We will make sure that they attend all games and performances required for the class. Student Signature Parent/Guardian Signature Date Date We are excited to announce that Pep Club students will have the opportunity to learn and work with a professional tumbling coach for 5 or 6 class periods in tumbling workshops. We have a professional tumbling coach scheduled to spend a few of days throughout the semester with pep club and work with students of ALL levels and abilities. We are asking all parents/guardians to sign a permission slip for their Pep Club member to participate or opt out in any of the tumbling workshops. We do NOT want to have your student work on anything in the class that you or, more importantly, they may feel uncomfortable with. Tumbling will range from simple cartwheels and round-offs to more advanced moves like back handsprings and tucks. We have our own full set of cheer/tumbling mats that we will be using as we learn tricks. There will also be a few open mat days that are different than the workshop days. The open mat days are for those who have learned some skills and would like the opportunity to practice on the mats. These days would be supervised by Mrs. Land, Mrs. Johnson, and several current cheerleaders. THEY ARE NOT WORKSHOP DAYS WITH A TUMBLING COACH. These days are geared more to allow the students the opportunity to use the mats to work on their own goals and tumbling skills. Those not interested or do not want to use the mats will be working on other skills like dance, angles, jumps, and flexibility. Please list below any skills that your student is comfortable doing without assistance and those that they can do with a spot or help.
