Diamond Lakes District 2014 Fall Boy Scout Camporee Clear Fork Park on Oct 31 st and Nov 1 st The registration deadline to attend the camporee is Friday October 24, 2014. No registration or fees will be accepted after this date. This camporee will be packed full of fun and competition that will test both Scouting skills Knowledge.
MORNING STATIONS These are 90 minute demonstration lectures put on once at 9am Saturday and again at 10:30 am so scouts have the option to attend two. Bike maintenance Vehicle Maintenance Camping/Backpacking Basics Cooking Basics EVENTS Note your surroundings - Circle with arrows pointing in different directions. River Runners Equipment: Provided by staff Your patrol needs to navigate two scouts in a canoe (i.e. holding two ends of a long pole)through an obstacle course. The two scouts will take up positions at the front and back for the canoe. They will then be blindfolded. The remaining scouts will need to direct them through the course while standing along the banks of the river. Carry The Antidote Equipment: Rope provided by the patrol. Poles will be provided by staff. The patrol must lash a structure on which to carry their patrol leader while he holds a cup full of water. The patrol will build a chariot using poles and lashings. Once the chariot is complete, they will carry the patrol leader through a course, while he holds a cup of water. Once they start the course, they may not set the patrol leaders down until the course is completed. The patrol leader must not spill any water. Silent Charade One person at a time in your patrol will be shown a scouting related word or phrase and act it out so that your patrol guesses it correctly. Each patrol will have 5 minutes to get through as many words or phrases as possible. The person signaling may not make any sounds. Correctly guessed word/phrase (20 items) 5pts each As One Equipment supplied by staff Your patrol will use the 2 x 4 s board to navigate an obstacle course in a race against the clock. This is an activity that will require the patrol to move together as a unit. Every patrol member will stand on the 2 x 4 s, grasp the loop of rope attached to each board, and lift the boards inconcert to move through the course. Left, right, left, right, etc. Complete course without hitting obstacles Fastest time Teamwork and Cooperation 60pts (-10 per obstacle) The Tent Trickster Equipment supplied by staff Scouts must set up and take down a tent by patrol. One scout can see and call out instructions, the rest of the patrol is blindfolded and must follow instructions. Score based on time. Completely Assembled 60pts (-10 per major item not set up) Fastest time Teamwork and Cooperation Pony Express Questions and equipment provided by staff The judge positions his/herself 20 30 feet from the patrol. The judge will have a list of Tenderfoot, 2nd Class,and 1st Class questions. Tenderfoot questions are worth 2 points, 2nd Class questions are worth 4, and 1st Class questions are worth 6 points. At the signal, the patrol leader from each patrol runs to his patrol's judge and tells him what level question he wants - Tenderfoot, Second Class, or First Class. The judge asks for a skill demonstration or answer to a question from that category. If the person is successful, the judge checks off the question and the person runs back to tag the next person. If the person
is incorrect, he just returns with no points. After a set time limit (20 minutes) the relay is complete and the patrol is scored based on the scoring below. Scoring: Tenderfoot Question worth 2 points Finishing all Tenderfoot questions 10 bonus points Second Class Question worth 4 points Finishing all Second Class questions 15 bonus points First Class Question worth 6 points Finishing all First Class questions 20 points Break the Code Patrols split into two separated groups on opposite sides of a wall or piece of plywood. Both sides of the patrol must remain silent the entire time. Both sides will be given three short phrases and a morse code cheat sheet with all the letters and their proper signal listed. One person from each side will then knock out the code while the other writes it down. If it is shown to the judge and correct, they may advance to the next phrase or choose to pass if too difficult. Phrases completed (6 total) Fastest Time Teamwork and Cooperation 10pts each Knot So Fast Patrols must line up 20 yards away from the judge of the event. One member will sprint down, tie a knot on a stick that is set up and already has loose rope dangling off it. When approved by the judge, that person sprints back to the line and upon crossing the line, the next person may continue. A patrol will not be granted points for tying the same knot twice.
