PRESIDENT S MESSAGE HAPPY SPRING CROCS! IT S HARD TO BELIEVE WE RE IN THE HOME STRETCH OF THE SCHOOL YEAR! WE HAVE SOME FUN THINGS PLANNED TO MAKE THIS YEAR A MEMORABLE ONE. ~Amanda Meehan, PTA President BOOK FAIR Our Happy Camper book fair was a huge hit in February and Mrs. Lyons will be able to use the Scholastic Dollars we earned to purchase more books for the Media Center. Our expanded book fair this year allowed for more books to choose from and Family Night and having the fair open during the Science Expo both had great turnouts. Thanks to everyone who stopped by and to all of our volunteers who helped out. BACKYARD BURGER/ GOODBERRY S FAMILY NIGHT On February 24th, we had our Backyard Burger/Goodberry s night. It was a warm evening and perfect for a burger and a sweet treat. We earned over $700 for our school because of your support! CHILI COOK OFF We also held our chili cook off on February 24th. Thanks to the many parents who entered the contest. Our teachers sampled all the chili s during lunch and while it was close we had to pick a winner. Congratulations to winners: 1. Patrick Curtis, 2. Joshua Kesler and 3. Dan Estep for being our top winners! TURF CHANGE DRIVE We held a change drive on March 24th to raise money for our turf fund. Thanks to board member, Brendan Betts for organizing and all the great parents and students who brought in change to get us closer to our goal. Speaking of raising money for the turf, we ve also had some terrific Crocs donate money specifically to our turf fund. We ve had a student who asked for donations to the turf instead of receiving birthday presents and another student who donated money from her lemonade stand. Just another reason why our Crocs Rock! LAST MAKE UP DAY We held our last Make Up Day on Saturday, April 1st. Thanks to Melissa Buxengard and our hospitality volunteers for providing our teachers with muffins, donuts and coffee. It s a special treat our teachers appreciate. UPCOMING SPRING EVENTS TRIANGLE ROCK CLUB Come join us on April 30th for tracks 2 and 4 from 6:30-8:30. SYCAMORE CREEK AND PINE HOLLOW PTA GOLF OUTING FUNDRAISER! Saturday, April 22nd TIME: Registration and lunch at 12:00. Shotgun start at 1:00 pm To participate, please contact: Jason Hunter 248-933-9600 or email: yoshjj@gmail.com WE NEED YOUR HELP WITH EOG TESTING! End of Grade Testing for our third through fifth graders is right around the corner. In order for testing to run smoothly, we need your help. Every classroom setting and separate setting will need a proctor. For every volunteer proctor we get, one less teacher assistant or specialist will have to be pulled to test, which helps keep them in their classes. In order to be a proctor you will have to be cleared to volunteer in Wake County Public Schools. This can be done at any WCPSS school during the school day. You will need to attend a training at the school prior to proctoring (dates to come). On testing days (please see below), proctors will be asked to arrive at the school by 8:20 to check in and will need to be available to stay at the school until testing is completed (12:00 p.m at the latest). If you are willing and able to proctor please fill out the Google form at https://goo.gl/forms/hsuhkrqg1a5rxl692. This link can also be found on the school website. If you have any questions please e-mail: jkronen@wcpss.net. SCES WINS NORTHERN AREA FIRST IN FITNESS The athletes from Sycamore Creek gave an outstanding performance and won this year s First In Fitness event that was held at Southeast Raleigh High School on March 22nd. First In Fitness is a county wide athletic event where 2nd-5th graders compete in 7 events that include the Mile Run, 100 yard dash, Shuttle Run, Pull Ups, Standing Long Jump, and Speed Rope. Mr. Miller took 46 hard-working athletes to represent our school against 25 Northern Area Elementary schools. Of the 46 that attended, 34 students received recognition for 1st-5th place. That awesome achievement allowed the team to win the competition for the third time in a row and 4th time in the last 5 years. Mr. Miller was extremely proud of their effort and sportsmanship. What a great group of kids! BOX TOP WINNERS Congratulations to the January and February Box Top Class Winners: Mr. Hyttenhove and Ms. Halychyn! These classes were the recipients of a popsicle party and the coveted traveling Box Top Trophy. Please continue to submit your closely clipped, unexpired Box Tops. Send them into school with your child in a bag or envelope that is clearly marked with your teacher s name. Submit them frequently, since expired Box Tops cannot be used. Box Tops for Education is a great program and an easy way for us to raise money for our school. Thanks for supporting Sycamore Creek! Questions? Heather Swanson, hlswan72@yahoo.com.
