Race 1 - Mangalore Park SV 2YO Fillies Maiden Plate - 1100 metres: Canadienne - after rearing in its starting stall making contact with the gates, underwent a veterinary examination and was subsequently a late withdrawal on veterinary advice at 1.31pm and must now gain further approval in a jump out before racing again. All monies bet
for a win and/or place and concession betting on the late scratching to be refunded. All successful bets on horses prior to time of withdrawal are subject to the following deductions in the dollar from the face value of the ticket: win bets - 3 cents, place bets (for winner) - 4 cents, place bets (for 2 nd ) - 5 cents and place bets (for 3 rd ) - 3 cents. Shoals - bumped with Woman In Red on jumping before shifting in and bumping with Runway Queen. Woman In Red - bumped at the start. Runway Queen - bumped at the start. Paseo Del Rio - over-raced in the early and middle stages. Raced greenly throughout. Hung out rounding the home turn and in the home straight. Performed below market expectations; rider Mark Zahra stated his mount raced greenly throughout, hung out and did not feel right in its action. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities and a swab sample was taken for analysis. Anytime Miss - raced wide without cover for the majority. Lady Pie - laid out under pressure in the home straight. Alice Island - laid out under pressure in the home straight. Rider Regan Bayliss reported his mount was immature and would benefit from todays racing experience. Race 2 - Lloyd Sound Maiden Plate - 1000 metres: Shakarl - slow to begin. Laid out rounding the home turn and in the straight. Mr Reliable - slow to begin. Rider Linda Meech reported her mount raced greenly in amongst other runners. Swiss Coin - sprawled at the start and lost ground. Rider Mark Zahra reported that after beginning awkwardly and losing ground, his mount then raced wide before finishing off fairly under the circumstances. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Gay Skier - raced wide without cover. Surfer Joe - raced wide without cover. Race 3 - Parker Bros Earthmoving Maiden Plate - 1600 metres: Divine Way - began awkwardly and lost ground.
Manila Magic - slow to begin. Raced wide without cover from the 1000m. On straightening, steadied away from the heels of Bellona Belle then laid in for the remainder of the home straight. Bjorn Pretty - slow to begin. Rider Daniel Moor stated his mount failed to stretch out in the early stages and was left flat footed when the pace quickened passing the 600m. Bellona Belle - after beginning well, settled behind the leaders. Miss Lily - over-raced in the early stages. Ionaruby - over-raced in the early stages and passing the 1300m permitted his mount to stride forward three wide before taking up a position outside the leader passing the 1000m. Race 4 - GD & SL OSullivan Builders Maiden Plate - 1300 metres: Moon Drops - connections advised would be ridden forward if it begins well; led. Mr Boombastic (NZ) - slow to begin. Over-raced in the early and middle stages. Rider Jake Noonan reported his mount was disappointing and failed to respond to his riding when placed under pressure. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding had sustained a small wound to its near hind pastern. Peppa - over-raced in the middle stages. Our Moonglo - passing the 800m steadied to avoid the heels of Majestic Bow which shifted out. Rider Craig Robertson reported that although his mount raced wide throughout, compounded quickly rounding the home turn. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Mr Mark Thomas was advised that due to the filly being uncompetitive, it must trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again and Mr Thomas advised that the filly would now be leaving his stable. Little Bess - raced wide without cover for the majority. Hegemon - held up rounding the home turn. Majestic Bow - rider Regan Bayliss reported his mount raced greenly throughout. Race 5 - United Insurance Group BM70 Handicap - 1300 metres: Good Offa - after sustaining a wound to it near hind leg after arriving on course was a late withdrawal on veterinary advice at 2.08pm. Uncle Tiger - slow to begin. Rider Jarrod Fry reported his mount raced flat. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities and trainer Ms Sylvia Thompson advised the gelding would now be spelled.
Bobs Hope - when being restrained after the start got its head up for several strides resulting in rider Jamie Mott becoming unbalanced. Cross Of Gold - raced wide without cover. Knight Star (IRE) - rider John Allen stated the gelding was not suited to the slow tempo in the early and middle stages and was left flat footed. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Race 6 - Mitchelton Wines BM64 Handicap - 1200 metres: Muccino - after rearing in its barrier stall underwent a veterinary examination and was subsequently a late withdrawal on veterinary advice at 4.00pm and must now gain further approval in a jump out prior to racing again. Prior to correct weight Dean Holland, rider of Sandhurst Delight (fourth placegetter) lodged an objection against Wazamba being declared the winner and Gunn Island being declared third placegetter alleging interference in the home straight. On the evidence it was established that near the 200m Sandhurst Delight, when obtaining a clear un to the outside of Wazamba, had to be checked to avoid that fillys heels, then approaching the 150m Sandhurst Delight then laid in away from Gunn Island and in behind Wazamba. Sandhurst Delight was then held up and unable to obtain clear running over the concluding stages. Under all the circumstance Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that the interference suffered near the 200m warranted amending the placings and therefore both objections were dismissed. Jordan Childs, rider of Sognani (second placegetter), lodged an objection against Wazamba being declared the winner alleging interference in the home straight. On the evidence it was established that after passing the 200m, after obtaining a clear run to the inside of Wazamba which, after initially shifting out shifted in tightening the running of Sognani in onto Beach Fighter. Stewards were of the opinion that had this incident not occurred that Sognani would have finished in front of Wazamba and therefore the objection was upheld and the placings amended as follows: Sognani - first placegetter, Wazamba - second placegetter, Gunn Island - third placegetter and Sandhurst Delight - fourth placegetter. Hydro Force - began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped with Wazamba. Raced wide without cover. Near the 250m was inconvenienced and had to be steadied to avoid the heels of Aunty Elsie (Linda Meech) which shifted out; Linda Meech was severely reprimanded for shifting ground when not fully clear. Rider Craig Robertson could offer no explanation. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal to reveal any abnormalities. Wazamba - bumped at the start. Sandhurst Delight - slow to begin. Checked near the 200m.
Aunty Elsie - approaching the 150m had to be steadied when momentarily tightened between Gunn Island (Mark Zahra) which shifted in and Sandhurst Delight, which had been carried out by Wazamba; Mark Zahra was reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift ground. Beach Fighter - near the 150m was tightened for racing room by Sognani, which had been carried in by Wazamba. Tahlia Hope was severely reprimanded for failing to ride her mount out to the winning post. Andrew Mallyon (Wazamba) - pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a), the carelessness being that near the 200m he permitted his mount to shift out whilst riding it along, when insufficiently clear of Sandhurst Delight which had to be checked and shift out to avoid the heels of Wazamba. Andrew Mallyon had his licence to ride in races suspended for a period to commence at midnight February 22 nd and to expire at midnight February 2 nd, a total of eight race meetings (three metropolitan, five provincial). In assessing penalty Stewards took into account his guilty plea and good record and that the carelessness was in the low range. Race 7 - ClassicBet Class 1 Handicap - 1600 metres: Musee Des Arts - reared and dislodged rider Lachlan King in the mounting yard and cantered riderless in the stabling area before being captured; underwent a veterinary examination behind the barriers and was subsequently a late withdrawal on veterinary advice at 4.34pm and the start of the race was delayed by six minutes. Trainer Mr Barry Fox was advised the gelding must gain further approval in a jump out prior to racing again. All successful bets on horses prior to time of withdrawal are subject to the following deductions in the dollar from the face value of the ticket: win bets - 6 cents, place bets (for winner) - 6 cents, place bets (for 2 nd ) - 8 cents and place bets (for 3 rd ) - 8 cents. Dash For Dee - slow to begin. Laid inwards in the straight. Given Evidence - slow to begin (two lengths). Rider Dean Yendall was of the opinion his mount may be at the end of its preparation. Abide - raced wide without cover. Al Shameel (NZ) - led, tactics queried; rider Mitch Atiken stated that after being caught wide he elected to permit his mount to stride forward and lead passing the 1400m. Phoenix Star - rider Kevin Forrester could offer no explanation for the performance. Race 8 - Grand Handicap Mile March 18 Win & Youre In BM64-1422 metres: Via Torrone - late withdrawal on veterinary advice at 12.06pm.
Vellastar - began awkwardly and shifted out bumping heavily with Big Pats Pontiac. Near the 1300m was momentarily tightened for room by Gee Whizzer which after being bumped by Kifaah shifted in. Hung out rounding the home turn and in the home straight. Big Pats Pontiac - bumped heavily at the start. Flash Boy - began awkwardly bumping with Hero Master. An irregular heart rhythm was detected on post race veterinary examination. Flash Boy must be subject to examination by a veterinarian with specialist qualifications in equine internal medicine, prior to starting in any race or trial. The examination should include echocardiography, electrocardiography at rest and at exercise and any other examination that the examining veterinarian requests. Prior to starting in any race, and pending Stewards receiving a satisfactory veterinary report from the specialist examination, such horses must trial to the satisfaction of Stewards in an organised trial of at least 1000m and have a satisfactory veterinary report that includes the results of cardiac auscultation within thirty minutes of completion of the trial. Hero Master - bumped at the start. Ruary Mac - began awkwardly. Raced wide without cover. Ocean Grove - near the 1200m raced in restricted room when tight inside of Vellastar. Kifaah - over-raced in the early and middle stages. Had to be checked near the 800m when Flash Boy (Daniel Moor) shifted in when not clear. Precision Timing - near the 200m when racing tight between Big Pats Pontiac and Flash Boy, shifted out over Flash Boys heels. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off foreleg and will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again. Daniel Moor (Flash Boy) - pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a), the carelessness being that near the 800m he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of Kifaah resulting in Kifaah being checked to avoid the heels of Flash Boy. Daniel Moor had his licence to ride in races suspended for a period to commence at midnight February 23 rd and to expire at midnight March 2 nd, a total of nine race meetings (three metropolitan, six provincial). In assessing penalty Stewards took into account his guilty plea and good record, the racing manners of Kifaah and that the carelessness was in the midrange.
