Rodriguez, 16 THE ZEPHYRS The New Orleans Zephyrs wrap up an eight-game homestand with the finale of a four-game set against the Omaha Storm Chasers. The Zephyrs have won 11 of the last 13 contests against Omaha at Zephyr Field, dating to the final two games of the 2012 season. YESTERDAY S NEWS Adam Conley struck out seven batters in 7.0 scoreless innings as the Z's blanked Omaha, 3-0. Conley allowed five hits and two walks to combine for the shutout with Arquimedes Caminero, who held Omaha hitless with a walk and three strikeouts in 2.0 innings for his first save of the season. Conley and Caminero combined to limit Omaha to 0x7 with runners in scoring position, and the Storm Chasers are now 5x32 (.156) with RISP in the series. The Zephyrs jumped on Omaha starter Aaron Brooks quickly with three first-inning singles, capped by a twoout RBI single by Mark Canha, who also blasted a solo homer in the eighth inning off reliever Spencer Patton. Kyle Jensen had a run-scoring ground out in the fifth to account for the other run. ON THE HILL Elih Villanueva gets the call for the fifth time this season. He has taken three straight no-decisions after suffering a loss in his first start of the year on 4/6 vs. Colorado Springs. The Z s are 1-3 with him on the mound this season, although he has received just seven runs of support. His 2.70 ERA leads the club and ranks 11th among 61 qualified pitchers in the PCL. In nine previous outings vs. Omaha, Villanueva is 2-3 with a 4.50 ERA (23 ER / 46.0 IP). BROOMS The Z s have already clinched their first series win of the season, and are in search of their first series sweep since taking four straight games from Iowa, July 28-31, 2012. The last series sweep of Omaha at Zephyr Field was August 11-14, 2006. GOING STREAKING New Orleans has won four consecutive games, equaling its longest winning streak from last season, accomplished six times. The Zephyrs have outscored their opponents 32-15 during the streak. NOLA has not won five in a row since August 11-15, 2012. GOOSE EGGS The Zephyrs recorded their third shutout in their last eight games. Their three shutouts are secondmost in the PCL, one fewer than Round Rock. ADAM'S SONG For the third time in 56 career starts, Adam Conley pitched 7.0 scoreless innings, and has now gone his last 18 innings without surrendering an earned run. Conley's 32 strikeouts are second-most in the PCL to Nashville's Michael Fiers (36). HOT ROD Josh Rodriguez stole his team-leading fifth base of the season on Friday and is tied for eighth in the PCL. The Zephyrs have stolen 16 bases, tied for ninth-most in the league, but they have been caught stealing just three times, tied for the fewest in the league with Round Rock and Sacramento. Rodriguez has also hit safely in three of his last four games and eight of his last 10, during which he has batted.316 (12x38). FIRST THINGS FIRST The Zephyrs scored in the first inning for the third straight game and the fourth time in their last five contests. They have outscored Omaha 7-2 in the first inning in their three straight wins. Their 19 first-inning runs are the most they have scored in any one inning, although they have also allowed 17 first-inning runs. HEATING UP Kyle Jensen is 6x13 with two doubles, four RBI, five runs scored and two walks in the three games vs. Omaha after he had been in a 5x38 skid (.132) over his previous 11 games. Jensen has raised his batting average.185 () to.239 in a hit streak that has reached a season-high four games. DIAZZLING Juan Diaz charted his second straight multi-hit game, and his fourth multi-hit effort in his last nine starts. Over the nine starts, Diaz is batting.345 (10x29) with a double, three RBI and four runs scored. He had been hitting just.132 (5x38) over his first 11 games. NAWLINS NOTES Mark Canha s home run was his first extra base hit since a double on 4/15 at Iowa, a span of nine games Justin Bour drew his league-leading fifth intentional walk on Friday, which was just his third game of the season without a hit The Zephyrs struck out 10 Omaha hitters on Friday and lead the PCL with 206 punchouts, two more than second-place Iowa New Orleans leads the PCL in fielding percentage (.985) and has committed the fewest errors (12) Arquimedes Caminero s two wild pitches on Saturday drove the Z s league-high total to 20 for the season, one more than Fresno (19), and the team s 94 walks allowed are second-most in the PCL behind only El Paso (98) NOLA is 8-1 when scoring first, tied with Iowa and Albuquerque for the best record in the PCL.

2014 SEASON 37 ELIH VILLANUEVA Height: 6-2 Weight: 235 Bats: Right Throws: Right Born: 7/26/1986 Age: 27 Resides: Tallahassee, FL LAST START Villanueva received his third straight no-decision even though he allowed one unearned run in 5.0 innings on 4/21 vs. Colorado Springs. The Sky Sox got two hits off of him and one walk while he struck out three but received one run of support in a 2-1 defeat. The game was tied 1-1 when he left the game, but Colorado Springs scored the deciding run on reliever Sam Dyson in the sixth inning. FAMILIAR FOE Villanueva will take the mound against Omaha for the 10th time in his career, which will tie his most starts against one opponent with Round Rock, who he has also faced 10 times from 2011-13. Villanueva is 2-3 against the Storm Chasers with a 4.50 ERA and 31 strikeouts in 46.0 innings pitched, and he is 1-2 with a 3.57 ERA in four starts vs. Omaha at Zephyr Field. He allowed four runs in 6.0 innings and got the win on 8/23 at Omaha in his only start against the Storm Chasers in 2013. HOME COOKING Villanueva does not have a win on the season, but he has allowed one earned run in 10 innings pitched at Zephyr Field for a 0.90 ERA, while he has a 4.50 ERA (5 ER / 10 IP) on the road. ERA LEADER Villanueva s 2.70 ERA (6 ER / 20.0 IP) is the best among Zephyrs pitching qualifiers and is 11th-lowest of the 61 qualifiers in the Pacific Coast League. CAN T DECIDE Villanueva has not received a decision his last three starts and has had a no-decision in five of his last eight starts dating back to 2013. The Zephyrs have lost each of his last two starts, although they had won the previous three games Villanueva had received a no-decision. CLOSE CALLS The Zephyrs lost 2-1 to Colorado Springs in both of Villanueva s starts against the Sky Sox this season, and the defeat on 4/21 marked the eighth time in his last 11 starts that the game has been decided by one run. The Z s are 4-4 in his one-run games, and they are 6-5 in his last 11 starts, overall. ROLE REVERSAL Villanueva held right-handed Colorado Springs hitters hitless in seven at-bats on 4/21 to drop their batting average against him to.227 (10x44) after they hit.333 (8x24) against him in his first two starts, while he held lefties to a.200 (3x15) average.
