New Orleans has claimed only one of eight all-time series at Raley Field (3-1 in 2005), and the all-time series is now Sacramento leading 36-35. The Z s are 25 games under.500 for the first time since the end of the 1999 campaign, when they finished a franchise-worst 55-85, and have eclipsed 75 losses for the first time since 2010. The Z s elimination number has been reduced to one. YESTERDAY S NEWS The Sacramento River Cats won their 12th consecutive ballgame with a 14-3 white wash of the New Orleans Zephyrs. The game was tied at three in the sixth inning when the River Cats battered the Z s pitching staff. Sacramento ran off eleven unanswered runs, scoring four in the sixth, five in the seventh, and two more in the eighth inning. Mac Williamson was 4x4 with 3 runs, four RBI and a home run. Jarret Parker also homered and added a pair of RBI in the 15 hit attack. Rob Morey suffered the defeat and has now dropped four consecutive starts. THE TRIP- The Z s are 0-7 on the current trip and have been outscored 54-25. New Orleans is batting.245 (63x257), while opponents are batting.342 (89x260). The Z s pitching staff has a 7.44 ERA (61.2IP. 54R, 51ER). The Zephyrs have allowed 12 stolen bases, while stealing none. ON THE HILL Travis Blackley will make his ninth start of the season and his 20 th appearance overall for the Zephyrs. Blackley has dropped seven of his eight starts including his start on Monday in Fresno. He was ejected in the fifth inning after allowing seven runs, on seven hits in four and two thirds innings. His last win was on August 7 th when he worked five shut-out innings in relief in the Z s 3-2 win in 16 innings, it was the final win before the current 13 game losing streak. This will be his fifth career appearance against Sacramento and he is 1-5 this season with a 6.35 ERA on the road. STREAKERS - New Orleans has lost 13 straight games for the second time in franchise history, joining a club-record 13-game skid from July 11-26, 2009. The Z s are on their third losing streak this season of at least six games, all since the All-Star break. Over the current slide, NOLA is batting.238 (110x462) and has been shut out three times. DOG DAYS The Z s have gone 9-28 since the All-Star break, and have dropped 21 of the last 23 games since having a seven-game win streak snapped on July 30. At 2-19, the Zephyrs are one of only two teams in pro ball to win only twice in August, joining Charlotte (2-16) of the Florida State League. The lowest win percentage for a month in Z s history is.286 in August of 1996 (8-20 record). BROOMS- The Z s have been swept four times this season, the most since being swept six times in 2009. The Z s have dropped all eight games of a road trip once in club history, (4/28/1999 5/4/1999 at OKC and CSP). The Z s have never been swept in Sacramento. REID ALL ABOUT IT - Reid Brignac went 1x4 to extend his hitting streak to 15 games, over which he has batted.413 (26x63) with seven extra-base hits. Brignac also hit safely in 14 straight contests from May 29-June 14, marking the two longest streaks by a Zephyr this year. Since 2005, when Rick Short (20 and 21 games) and Brandon Watson (14 and 18 games) both strung together multiple hit streaks of at least 14 games, Jake Marisnick last year (14 and 16 games) is the only other Zephyr in the last decade to post two 14-game streaks in the same season. Brignac is hitting.395 in August, sixth-best in the PCL, after ranking last among qualified hitters in July with a.172 average. BIG SHOE Brady Shoemaker picked up his sixth multi-hit game in August and 23rd of the year, ranking third on the club. He is batting.358 (29x81) in his 24 starts at first base, with six doubles, two homers and 17 RBI. In 12 games since August 9, Shoemaker has collected 12 RBI, tied with Fresno s Matt Duffy for third-most in the PCL in that span. POWER OUTAGE The Zephyrs rank last in the PCL in extra-base hits (292) and home runs (63) and has the league s lowest batting average (.256). New Orleans is on pace to finish with 71 homers, which would be the lowest total in club history (77 in 1997) and the fewest by a PCL team since Vancouver hit 66 in 1996. NAWLINS NOTES Vinny Rottino s sixth-inning double was only his sixth extra-base hit since the All-Star break. Rottino has hit.212 (34x160) in 44 games since July 1 He leads the club with 47RBI, the fewest RBI to lead club for a full season is Bryan Petersen s 49 in 2013. New Orleans has held a lead for only 11 innings in its last 16 games The Zephyrs have played extra innings in five of its last 24 games, and a club record 14 times this season.. NOLA went 2x9 with runners in scoring position last night and is batting.245 with RISP this season, second-worst in the PCL The Z s bounced into two double plays last night, upping their PCL-leading total to 119 The Z s 85 errors 2nd fewest in PCL.
