VETTE NEWS Volume 31, Issue 12 President s Corner I just read my NCCC Blue Bars magazine which featured the Topeka convention. It brought back many happy memories for Rose and me. If you look on page 33, you will see our table display that won FIRST place, and right above, Patti Kirkland and Nicolette Brett in their Munchkin outfits and Jim Brett as the Scarecrow. If you read the article you will see that the Bretts, Kirklands and Riciglianos brought home trophies. We are planning on going to the Bowling Green convention next year June 2013. I hope to see many members join us on this trip to Bowling Green. If you are planning on attending you should get your reservations in the first day so we will all be in the main hotel. (first come first served) Our first Winter Cruise at Tony Pepperoni's turned out to a great success, with 28 people attending. The food and company was wonderful and fun. I would like to do one every month until we bring our Vettes out again. At this time I would like to thank the elected officers of 2012 that helped our club run this year. It was fun to be President and work with a great cross-section of people who served the membership of COB. I would like to thank everyone who held jobs for the club starting with the Newsletter Rich Kirkland, Activities Patti Kirkland, Cookies Sue Krezmien, Sunshine Committee Karen Rothenberger and Diane Skeide, Membership Barb Lipome, Webmaster Jim Bonus, and Club Photographer Dan Krakowski. My thanks also go to the Debbie Schafer and Diane Breen for the Dinner Dance, Harry Kwiek and Bob Tkach for the Car Show, and last put not least for our prestigious Corvette Caravan John Meyerhoff. If I missed anyone I'm sorry and I would also like to thank you. At this time I will pass the gavial to your new President Mike Buccilli for 2013 and wish him good luck. Please, let s all work with him so we all can have another great year! Save the wave Pete R. I got the corvette bug late in life. It all started in the summer of 2008 when my brother mike asked if I wanted to go with him to corvettes of Carlisle, awaken show in PA. As it turned out his wife (Lee) did not want to go. We drove to the Pembroke rest stop, it was there that I met several members of the corvettes of Buffalo. For the next four days they made me feel like one of the boys (real nice guys). I saw hundreds of corvettes, all generations and color. Really great looking cars and had a good time with the guys. Two years later the boys from the COB were going back to Carlisle. So I went along. Had another great time with the guys. I mentioned to my brother one more day here and I just might buy a corvette, well I did go home empty handed. I started looking for a vette shortly after my return from Carlisle. Should it be a C4 or C5 I was going back and forth. Did not find anything local that caught my eye. Fast forward to 2012 the boys of the COB were going back to Carlisle, so what could I do I had to go. They say that the third time is a charm and they're right. This time I brought along some cash. I came home with a 1993 C4 bright aqua metallic coupe. I drove it home and had a blast, along the way I met a great group of people and had a good time with them. The Corvettes of Buffalo is an organization I would like to be part of. Thank You, Rocco Buccilli Dear Members, Back in August of this year Lynda and I went on our first caravan cruise. The day was warm and beautiful and the people we met were the same. Thru the last 3 meettings we have felt very welcome and have a feeling the both of us are happy to have made the decision to join the Corvette Club of Buffalo. 72 Corvette Restoration To make my 72 Vette to handle great it needs a 4 wheel alignment. To get the most accurate alignment I had to get the weight. I had to put the bumpers, grills, hood on the car. I also added more weight to the inside because most of the interior was taken out. What I am trying to do is to get the car weight to 3400 lbs just like when it was new. Next I took it to West Herr Chevy to have the work done. When they test drove it he said the car handled well and seemed to be tight. The Carburetor we put on the 72 was not running right so I changed it with a 650 double pumper Holly. This change solved part of a vacuum problem and now the car will run away when the gas is applied. I also found that 4 vacuum valves were bad that operate the head lights and wiper door. After I replaced all 4 valves and all the hose ($350) everything works great, just as it did when it was new. Now that the 72 runs good, it is time to get it ready for paint. With the outside together it is time to make sure that the hood, headlights, and bumpers fit good before paint is applied. The front fender on the driver side was too high, so I broke it loose from the inside fender, readjusted and glued it together again. The hood now fits the front end likes new. I will do all the glass body work before it goes in for paint. The outside is together so I have been driving it when the weather is good to break in the motor, and check that drive train is working right. It has about 150 miles on it now and it runs strong, feels great and nothing has come off yet. After everything is working right, and all the body work is done it will go to be painted. The body is in good shape and won't need much repair. The next article will be about how the car will be prepared for painting. Pete R CORVETTES of BUFFALO pg 8
