ST. PETER TRI-PARISH SCHOOL A Collaborative of St. Benedict, St. Peter & St. Timothy Parishes 120 Mayfair Road Warwick, RI 02888 (401) 781-9242 stpeterschoolri.com October 30, 2015 Dear Parents, This Saturday, children will be dressed in costume in celebration of one of their most favorite days Halloween. To some, Halloween is a pagan rite dating back to some pre-christian festival. However, according to Fr. Augustine Thompson, O.P., in his article Halloween: The Real Story! the origins of Halloween are very Christian and rather American. Halloween falls on October 31 st because of a pope, and its observances are the result of medieval Catholic piety. Trick or treat is the most American addition to Halloween. In actuality, Halloween is the eve of the day we honor all those who have died All Saints Day followed by All Souls Day. Mrs. Kelley has her Spanish classes preparing for the Mexican celebration Day of the Dead by designing the traditional Sugar Skulls. Come and see the sugar skulls hanging on the walls outside the Spanish room. TURN CLOCKS BACK: Remember to turn your clocks back one hour this weekend Sunday, November 1 st at 2:00 AM is the official time to make the change. HALLOWEEN SAFETY TIPS: With Halloween on Saturday, here are a few safety tips for our families: Use traffic signals and crosswalks when crossing the street. Walk on the sidewalks or paths facing traffic. Watch for cars. Trick or treat with an adult. Decorate costumes and bags with reflective tape or stickers. Choose face paint and makeup instead of masks. Have kids carry glow sticks or flashlights to help them see and be seen by drivers. Have goodies checked by an adult before consuming anything!

Shortly before Thanksgiving, the members of the Society will prepare baskets of food for Thanksgiving dinner and distribute them to families in need. TRAFFIC PATTERN: The arrows indicating the direction of traffic have been repainted in the church parking lot and in the larger opening of the main school yard. It is important for everyone s safety to follow the traffic pattern at all times and, of course, to be aware of children in the parking lots. There is also a DO NOT ENTER SIGN in the larger opening of the school yard. This is an EXIT ONLY. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter. Father Gagne has been monitoring the church parking lot and has noticed that many of our families are not following the traffic pattern arrow in the morning drop off or in the afternoon pick-up. For the safety of all, please park your car in such a way that you may leave the parking lot easily through the center lane, which has an arrow pointing out to the street.
