Location of the RIGA ENERGY AGENCY

Establishment of the RIGA ENERGY AGENCY The proposal for Intelligent Energy Europe the 2006 call for proposals The project is implemented by a consortium of municipalities from 5 European countries including Bordeaux Agglomeration (France), City of Latina (Italy), City of Murcia (Spain), City of Porto (Portugal) and City of Riga (Latvia). Co-ordinator - Bordeaux Agglomeration.

Status and the aims of the RIGA ENERGY AGENCY REA is an independent non-profit entity formed by the municipality REA is established for management and coordination of energy supply and energy efficiency in Riga municipality as well ensuring awareness among the local population

Main objectives of the RIGA ENERGY AGENCY Preparation and updating of long term energy supply and energy efficiency concepts and programs, organization and supervision of the implementation of those documents; Attraction of financial resources from different national and international investment funds to deal with the energy supply and energy efficiency issues; Building energy certification and organization of building energy audit; Raising of public awareness, consulting and training on the issues of the reduction of energy consumption; Inventory and regular monitoring of small heating boilers with the capacity >20kW and air conditioning systems with capacity >12 kw according to the EU Directive 2002/91/EC.

Main achievements of the RIGA ENERGY AGENCY policies Prepared Progress Report on Concept Paper of the Development of Riga Heating Supply 2006-2016 - increased share of cogeneration in the heat production, - more energy efficiency actions targetting end-users, - raise of usage of RES. Working on Concept Paper of the Development of the Riga City Power Supply 2009 2020 Working on Sustainable Energy Action Plan of Riga City 2009-2020 - CO2 emissions review, - improvement of energy efficiency, - attraction of renewable energy sources.

Main achievements of the RIGA ENERGY AGENCY energy efficiency Assessing current situation in Riga apartment buildings Data collection Creation of the data base for pre-energy audit appraisal Elaboration of proposals for municipal support of inhabitants of apartment buildings A co-funding scheme for energy audits A co-funding scheme for refurbishment of apartment buildings A co-funding scheme for inhabitants on low incomes The creation of revolving fund for refurbishments Implementing the adopted proposals A call for 20 energy audits establishing municipal support and co-funding mechanisms
