Riva Cup 2017 Race 3 1000hrs Saturday 9 th September 2017 SAILING INSTRUCTIONS 1 Rules The event will be governed by the rules as defined in the RRS 2013-2016, the prescriptions of the RYA, The International Rules for the Prevention of Collisions at Sea, and the following sailing instructions. 2 Conditions of Entry The event is open to racing members of Whitby Yacht Club. The race is also part of the NECRA offshore series, open to members of NECRA. 3 Handicaps Results shall be calculated using the NERR system. 4 Notices to Competitors Any changes to the sailing instructions will be announced on radio Ch. 37/M1 before the start. 5 Signals made Ashore If the race station is manned, standard light signals according to WYC general sailing instructions will be used. Otherwise the starting procedures will be conducted on the radio Ch. 37/M1. 6 Protests Protests, accompanied with a fee of 5, must be submitted by 2200hrs Saturday 9 th September to race office. 7 Radio Communication A boat shall neither make radio transmissions while racing nor receive communications not available to all boats. This restriction also applies to mobile phones. After the start yachts should monitor Ch. 16 and Ch. 37/M1.
8 Disclaimer of Liability Competitors participate in the race at their own risk. See RRS rule 4 Decision to Race. The organisers will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with, or prior to, during or after this event. 9 Insurance Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third party insurance with a minimum cover of 3,000,000. 10 Safety All boats shall comply with WYC safety regulations (ISAF Category 4). NECRA boats must comply with NECRA regulations. 11 Retirements Any boat retiring from the race must inform the Race Officer on the water or at the destination club. 12 Schedule of Race Start Time HW Whitby Bridge Whitby 1000hrs 0631hrs & 1901hrs 0930hrs 13 VHF Channels Whitby Race Officer will operate on VHF Ch. 37/M1. 14 Start Line South to north transit marked by two white triangles situated above and behind the Racing Station. The line extends approximately 2-3 cables seawards to the limit mark which is mark of the course (A) and may be tide-borne to the east or west of the line. 15 Start Procedure The start will be called on the water via VHF Ch 37/M1. First time check will be given at 0950 hrs. 16 General Recall A general recall shall be indicated by radio Ch 37/M1. 17 Course (WYC Course 31),

Outer and inner distance marks are orange spherical buoys. (Buoys are the most obvious, transit is indistinct).
