FISH BITES The Marlins continue a seven-game homestand with the finale of this four-game set against the Atlanta Braves today at 1:10 p.m. José Ureña, making his teamleading ninth start of the season, is taking the mound for the 11th time against Atlanta in his career (eighth start), going 2-3 with a 5.54 ERA (37.1 ip/23 er). The Braves are countering with LHP Sean Newcomb, who in two previous starts against Miami has gone 0-1 with a 4.91 ERA (11.0/6). The Marlins returned home Wednesday night from a six-game road trip to Cincinnati (2-1) and Chicago (0-3). The series loss to the Cubs snapped a string of four consecutive series wins, the Marlins longest series win streak since taking five straight from August 11-27, 2017. After winning eight of 11 from April 24-May 6, the Marlins have dropped five of their last six. LAST NIGHT VS. ATLANTA Miami and Atlanta played a back-and-forth affair through the first six innings, until the Braves tallied five unanswered runs over the final two frames to take a 10-5 decision in game three of this series. Atlanta took an early lead, scoring one run in the first inning. Miami countered in the bottom half with a run of its own on a Brian Anderson double. Atlanta took the lead in the second with another run, and extended its lead in the fifth to 4-1. In the bottom half of the fifth, the Marlins second run scored on a fielding error, and Derek Dietrich drove a bases-clearing double to center, all with two outs, to give Miami a 5-4 lead. The Braves tied the game in the sixth and pulled away with two in the eighth and three in the ninth. Starlin Castro and Miguel Rojas both had multi-hit efforts, while Dietrich led with three RBI. Jarlin García started for the Marlins, allowing five runs (four earned) on seven hits and two walks, while striking out four, over 6.0 innings. Drew Steckenrider suffered his first loss of the season. In his first five starts of the season, José Ureña allowed three-or-more runs four times and made it past the fifth inning just once, a 7.0-inning stint on April 3 vs. Boston. His ERA over that span was 5.88 (26.0 ip/17 er), while his average against was.270. In his last three starts, he has tossed 19.1 innings and allowed five earned runs (six total) for a 2.33 ERA, struck out 17, and walked just two. WHEN LEFT IS RIGHT Since 2014, the Marlins have a team average of.268 against left-handed pitchers, second in the National League and third in the Majors, behind Detroit (.276) and Colorado (.269). Starlin Castro has posted a.385 average (10x26) against lefties this season, tied for fifth in the NL with Tommy Pham, behind Kris Bryant (.486), Lorenzo Cain (.429), Ozzie Albies (.391), and Nolan Arenado (.388). MOM'S HOME COOKIN' J.T. Realmuto has hit safely in each of his nine games at Marlins Park this season, batting.316 (12x38). The nine-game streak marks the second-longest home hitting streak of his career, behind an 11-game run from August 27-Sept. 24, 2015. He has recorded at least one hit in 14 of his last 15 at home since Sept. 5, 2017, hitting.355 (22x62) over that span. Additionally, Starlin Castro has posted a.314 average (186x593) at home since 2016 to rank 15th in the Majors. J.D. Martinez leads baseball with a.360 mark (180x500). Miami snapped a four-game skid on Mother's Day with a 3-1 win over the Atlanta Braves last season. The Marlins are 13-12 all-time on Mother's Day. As part of MLB's Mother's Day initiative, players will wear newly designed caps highlighted by a pink crown and team color brim, while Club uniforms will feature a pink ribbon on the left chest. A matching pair of pink socks is optional for every player. During batting practice and in the dugouts throughout today s games, players and managers can also wear new, grey, lightweight hoodies emblazoned with their Club s wordmark and the MLB logo in a matching pink design. MLB players will continue to have the opportunity to use pink bats during Mother s Day games. Louisville Slugger, the Official Bat of Major League Baseball, will donate proceeds from the sale of their pink bats, which will be stamped with the MLB breast cancer awareness logo, to Susan G. Komen and Stand Up To Cancer. In addition to the pink bats on Mother s Day, the following game equipment can be used for breast cancer awareness: pink compression sleeves, pink batting gloves, pink footwear, pink wrist/elbow/leg guards and catcher s equipment. Since 2006, players have swung pink bats, worn pink ribbon decals and sported pink wristbands through the Going To Bat Against Breast Cancer initiative, which is intended to raise awareness and, through donations and auction proceeds, funds to fight breast cancer. MLB will again donate its licensed uniform royalties through Mother s Day apparel to Susan G. Komen and Stand Up To Cancer. UPCOMING STARTERS OPPONENT O MARLINS VS.
