Oakmont Advance Dance- Dance FX AUDITION INFORMATION (Please keep for your records) Dance FX- Advanced Dance Company is the dance company on Oakmont High School s Campus. Students who are in Dance FX will be enrolled in Advanced Dance for the entire school year (preferred). This is a performance based class and is designed to continue and expand their knowledge and skills in dance. The focus of the class is learning about dance history, aspects of choreography, staging, performing, and technique. The students in this course will be given the opportunity to perform for the purpose of showcasing the Dance Department at various locations and events. The purpose for the audition is to put students through an audition process and select dancers for the Advanced level for the 2015 Fall Term and 2016 Spring Term. Students are judged on their dance and theatrical talent. Students are rated on projection, execution and sharpness of movement, timing, facial expressions, technique, creativity, and behavior. May 5 th and May 6 th all students will learn the try-out routine which will consist of 30 seconds of Jazz, 30 seconds of Lyrical, and 30 seconds of Hip-Hop and will have to come up with two 8 counts of their own choreography, in whatever style they choose. This will help show how versatile a dancer can be. On Thursday May 7 th all students who are trying out will audition the 3 pieces they learned. Their skill scores will then be added up and reviewed for the placement of your student. The application packet is also due on Tuesday May 5 th no exceptions will be made. A student cannot audition without turning in the completed application packet. Students who have danced at Oakmont High School in the past who have had and/or have discipline problems with other students and/or the teacher may not be selected even if they have good skill scores. Student discipline and ability to work positively with other students and staff are important factors in consideration no matter the level of talent or ability. Once the company is selected the list will be posted, your student will receive an email and your student will be enrolled in the class. At this particular time Advanced Dance is not scheduled for any particular period. So student s schedule will be adjusted to fit. Decision of the judges is final. (Right now Advanced is 1 st period in the fall and 4 th in the spring) The director of the dance program, Ms. Bettencourt, will establish company/class rules and procedures, auditions and selection for the class, student directors, casting and choreography assignments, costume and music choice, performance pieces, discipline, behavioral standards, field trips and field trip eligibility, performance eligibility, dismissal from the company/class and/or removal from the advanced class. This will be the expectations of the dance program.
