Thank you for choosing to support The Children s Hospital at Westmead. Here are some tips and hints for hosting your event as well as some fun printable resources. About the Bandaged Bear Appeal The Bandaged Bear Appeal is the signature fundraising event for The Children s Hospital at Westmead. Now in its 29th year, the Bandaged Bear Appeal helps the Hospital to continue providing the very best care to sick children and their families. Running throughout the month of March, the Appeal raises essential funds to purchase the most advanced medical equipment, fund vital research into the causes and cures for childhood illness and maintain the total healing environment that is vital to the wellbeing of children and families. The Children s Hospital at Westmead relies on the involvement of the community to make the Bandaged Bear Appeal a success. Every dollar donated to The Children s Hospital at Westmead goes towards helping save and improve the lives of sick children. About The Children s Hospital at Westmead The Children s Hospital at Westmead, the largest paediatric centre in NSW, is world-renowned for its high quality, specialised treatment of sick children. Part of the Sydney Children s Hospitals Network, the Hospital provides specialist care for children from around Australia and across the Pacific Rim as well as community education, advocacy for improved child health and ground-breaking research into childhood illnesses within a positive, caring and healing environment. More than 82,000 sick children and their families are cared for by the Hospital each year and many more lives are improved through our research into the causes, treatment and cures for childhood diseases. The Hospital is home to the NSW Paediatric Burns Unit, the Paediatric Liver Transplant Unit, the National Centre for Immunisation Research and Surveillance, the NSW Newborn Screening Service and National Poisons Information Centre, as well as the first Paediatric Tumour Bank in the Southern Hemisphere. Research is one of the key ways the Hospital provides the highest standard of care to sick children and their families. Research into childhood diseases results in significant advances in the treatment of cancer, obesity, kidney, heart and respiratory illnesses, diabetes and muscular dystrophy. Funded by the NSW Government, The Children s Hospital at Westmead provides significant extra services thanks to the generosity of our donors, people like you.
