FISH BITES The Marlins, winners of 12 of their last 15, continue a three-game set against the Milwaukee Brewers tonight at 7:10 p.m. LHP Adam Conley is making his second start of the season, and third of his career, against the Brewers, carrying a lifetime record of 1-0 with a 3.45 ERA against them. He is facing RHP Zack Davies, who is making his second start of the year, and third of his career, against the Fish with a 1-1 mark and 3.75 ERA. Tonight's national anthem is being performed by the Coral Springs Charter School Band. Miami's current homestand started with the Fish sweeping the Arizona Diamondbacks in a three-game set, then dropping two of three to the Philadelphia Phillies. The Fish went 7-3 on their last road trip to San Francisco (1-2), the Dodgers (4-0) and Milwaukee (2-1) that saw Miami win seven-straight, its longest winning streak since May 1-7, 2012. Following on off-day Thursday, Miami will return to the road, traveling to Washington (May 13-15) and Philadelphia (May 16-18). LAST NIGHT VS. MILWAUKEE The Marlins didn't let their lead slip away last night as they came away victorious, 4-1, over the Milwaukee Brewers. Miami's first run came around on a true baseball oddity, as J.T. Realmuto connected for what looked to be his third home run of the season. But after review, he was shown to have passed Marcell Ozuna at first base, resulting in an RBI single for Realmuto. The score remained 1-0 until the sixth, when Adeiny Hechavarria plated a run with an RBI single to left. In the seventh, Derek Dietrich led things off by tripling to right field, then coming home on the play on a throwing error. In the eighth, Dietrich struck again, driving in the Marlins' final run with this third hit of the night. Dietrich tied a career high with three hits, while Hechavarria also had a three-hit game. José Fernández earned the win, holding Milwaukee scoreless on four hits and four walks while striking out 11 over a season-high 7.0 innings. Bryan Morris entered the game with two outs and the bases loaded in the ninth to earn his first career save. ELIAS SAYS... José Fernández pitched seven scoreless innings to earn the victory in the Marlins' 4-1 win over the Brewers last night. That improved Fernandez' record to 20-1 at Marlins Park, with a 1.65 ERA. The only pitcher in the live-ball era to win 20 of his first 30 home starts with an ERA below 2.00 was Dwight Gooden (22-4, 1.84). TODAY'S TRANSACTIONS The Marlins today placed RHP Nefi Ogando on the 15-day disabled list (retro to May 9) with a fractured rib on his right side and recalled RHP Nick Wittgren (#64) from Triple-A New Orleans. This marks Wittgren's second stint with the Fish; he had no record and a 4.50 ERA (2.0 ip/1 er) in two appearances with Miami earlier this season. MISSING BATS Over his last two starts, Adam Conley has allowed just two hits, with both of those coming in his last start, May 5 vs. Arizona (5.1 ip). In his previous start, he did not allow a hit over a career-high 7.2 innings against these very same Brewers. The two hits allowed over his last two starts matches the Marlins' record for fewest hits allowed in consecutive starts, equaling the accomplishment of Al Leiter from May 11-17, 1996. The fewest hits allowed over a three-start stretch is five, done twice by Al Leiter in 1996 (May 11-22 and July 17-28). - STATS LLC FILLING IN NICELY Since losing its primary leadoff man on April 29, Miami has used the trio of Derek Dietrich, J.T. Realmuto, and Ichiro Suzuki at the top spot in the order. In that time, Miami's leadoff hitters rank second in the National League and fifth in the Majors in average at.326 (14x43), behind Texas (.385), Philadelphia (.385), the Angels (.353) and Kansas City (.333). Dietrich has posted a.333 average (5x15) with a double, triple, home run and three RBI in four games batting leadoff. Ichiro has hit.375 (6x16) with a double and one RBI in four games, while Realmuto has hit.313 (5x16) with two doubles and two RBI in four games. - STATS LLC ALL IS RIGHT After going 2x5 last night against Milwaukee, Martín Prado kept his average at.396, the second-best mark in the Majors, behind Daniel Murphy (.398). Prado leads the National League and ranks second in the Majors in average against right-handed pitchers, hitting at a.404 clip (36x89). Nick Castellanos leads MLB at.452 (38x84). USING ALL FIELDS Overall record on this date: 11-10 Since 2014, Miami has sprayed the ball to all fields better than any team in the Majors, according to Fangraphs. The Fish have pulled the fewest percentage of balls, at 34.3%, while going up the middle a Major League-leading 37.3% of the time. The Marlins have driven the ball to the opposite field 28.4% of the time, which also leads the Majors. This season, Martín Prado has the second-highest percentage of Major League hits up the middle (45.9), behind Adonis Garcia (48.2). PRESSURE SITUATIONS Ichiro Suzuki has been coming up clutch when stepping to the plate with runners in scoring position and two outs. In five at-bats in such situations, he has recorded three hits. His.600 average with men in scoring position and two outs is second in the NL, trailing Alex Presley (.750/ 3x4). Over his career, Ichiro has the seventhhighest average among active players (min. 150 PA) in such situations at.308 (261x847). Derek Dietrich has also shown his mettle, recording six hits in 11 at-bats (.545) in the same circumstance, good for fifth in the NL. BEING SELECTIVE Christian Yelich has been one of the most patient hitters in the National League, seeing an average of 4.37 pitches per plate appearance. He trails Paul Goldschmidt (4.52), Hunter Pence (4.46), Odubel Herrera (4.46) and Trevor Story (4.38). He is making the most of his plate appearances, owning a.376 average on balls in play, which ranks 11 th in the NL. Teammate Martín Prado leads the NL and ranks second in the Majors with a.429 mark. EL OSO GRANDE ES MUY CALIENTE Marcell Ozuna has been heating up as of late, stringing together a season-best nine-game hitting streak that has seen him record six multi-hit efforts, and a.405 average (15x37). Over the streak he has scored eight times, hit four home runs and driven in seven. He has recorded at least one hit in 15 of his last 17, with a.344 (22x64) average, two triples, five home runs and 12 RBI.
