Stewards' Reports Print Victoria Racing Club @ Flemington Date: Saturday February 15 2014 Track: Good 3 Penetrometer: 4.83 Weather: Fine Rail: True Stewards Panel: Mr T Bailey (Chairman), Mr R Cram, Mr R Montgomery, Mr G Bush & Mr D Rhoden (Cadet) Riding Changes / Jockey Information Medical Certificate produced today: C Newitt was examined by the Club s doctor after arriving on course and was passed fit to ride. Race 1 TALINDERT STAKES (Listed) - 1100 metres: Inevitability (NZ) which was fractious in the barriers, then jumped awkwardly. Marcado bounded at the start and was slow to begin. Betcher raced keenly in the early stages. Post race endoscopy of Inevitability (NZ) detected a degree of mucus / mucopus that may have affected the horse s racing performance and trainer Mr D O Brien was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness is required prior to the colt racing again. G Boss, rider of Lady Sharapova (favourite), explained that the filly would be improved with today s experience. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities and a swab sample was taken for analysis. C Williams, rider of Coram, reported that the colt over-raced in the early stages. Race 2 HILTON NICHOLAS HANDICAP - 2000 metres: Try Pickle raced three wide without cover until gaining cover near the 1000m. C Williams (Prairie Star (FR)) reported that his mount was under pressure a long way from the finish and that in his opinion the gelding was acting abnormally. A post race veterinary examination of Prairie Star (FR) failed to reveal any abnormalities. Race 3 INDIAN SUMMER HANDICAP - 1400 metres: Sino Eagle underwent a veterinary examination after arriving on course and was passed suitable to race. First Print jumped awkwardly and was slow to begin.

Sacred Dream was slow to begin. Sino Eagle got its head up and over-raced before obtaining cover passing the 1000m. Means A Lot raced three wide without cover. K Mallyon (Emmooki s Star) reported that in her opinion the mare did not feel right in its action. A subsequent veterinary examination of Emmooki s Star revealed the mare to have mucus in its trachea. Race 4 LAWN HANDICAP - 1200 metres: The connections of TIgerland expressed concerns to the Stewards prior to the commencement of the race meeting that Tigerland may not be suited to today s track conditions, given that it was a Good 3 at 7.30am. At a matter of transparency the Stewards relayed this information via several media outlets. The explanation tendered by trainer Mr B McCarthy for failing to have Regalmania on course by the prescribed time was accepted. Tigerland was slow to begin. Dash For Viz jumped awkwardly. About Square was slow to begin. At the 200m Too Deadly had to be steadied to avoid the heels of King Buddy which hung in before being straightened by its rider, V Duric. B Rawiller (King Buddy) was of the view the gelding was not suited to the straight course and was up in class today. G Boss (About Square (NZ)) could not explain the gelding s disappointing performance and said that it was under pressure 300m after the start. A post race veterinary examination of About Square (NZ) failed to reveal any abnormalities. A post race veterinary examination of Tigerland did not reveal any abnormalities. Race 5 THE MITTYS VANITY (Group 3) - 1400 metres: At the start Quayside shifted out and made contact with Girl In Flight. Shortly after this, Quayside was crowded for room by Critical Angel (NZ) which shifted out. Near the 50m Sensibility was steadied for a stride to avoid the heels of Girl In Flight (R Maloney) which shifted in. R Maloney was advised to exercise more care. C Williams, rider of Rezoned (NZ) which was disappointing, could offer no explanation. A post race veterinary examination of Rezoned (NZ) failed to reveal any abnormal findings. Race 6 C S HAYES STAKES (Group 3) - 1400 metres: At the start Prince Harada was tightened for room between Worth A Ransom and Criterion (NZ) which both shifted ground. Shortly after this Kushadasi was severely hampered and The Quarterback and Epic Saga were hampered when tightened for room between Teronado, which shifted out, and Criterion (NZ) which was taken in by

Prince Harada which in turn was taken in by Worth A Ransom, which shifted in abruptly. During this incident Epic Saga and Kushadasi were checked and lost their running. Mahican jumped awkwardly and then after travelling a short distance attempted to buck for 200m before being pulled out of the race by its rider, V Duric. Trainer Mr P Moody was advised that Mahican must trial to the satisfaction of Stewards before racing again. At the 400m Hucklebuck shifted out and made contact with San Diego. Race 7 BLACK CAVIAR LIGHTNING (Group 1) - 1000 metres: Esprit De Bullet (NZ) and Boomwaa both jumped awkwardly. N Rawiller, rider of Bernabeu which was disappointing and weakened quickly over the concluding stages, could offer no explanation. A post race veterinary examination of Bernabeu failed to reveal any abnormal findings. C Newitt (Samaready) explained that the mare was not quite suited to the tempo of today s race over 1000m and in his view will appreciate the 1200m in the upcoming Newmarket Handicap. A post race veterinary examination of Samaready failed to reveal any abnormalities and a swab sample was taken for analysis. Race 8 ELMS HANDICAP - 1700 metres: The Ruffian and Nevis (IRE) were both slow to begin. The Ruffian lost its off fore plate during the race. D Oliver (Great Lane) was questioned regarding his tactics early in the race as to whether he was able to hold a more forward position rather than allow Bunchloch to cross his mount. D Oliver explained that the tempo was very genuine and felt that in all the circumstances, the gelding was comfortable settling worse than mid-field. S Arnold (Nevis (IRE)) explained that his mount did pull hard in the early and middle stages which may have contributed to the reason for the horse not finishing the race off. A post race veterinary examination of Nevis (IRE) failed to reveal any abnormalities other than a slow recovery. Race 9 tab.com.au TROPHY - 1400 metres: Trainer Mr N Blackiston was cautioned for failing to have recorded a treatment administered to the gelding last Thursday February 13. In arriving at this decision the Stewards took into account the information had been volunteered to members of the Compliance Assurance Team during their stable inspections. Sabrage, which has not raced since March 2013, underwent a veterinary examination after arriving on course and was passed suitable to race.
