March 2017 The Hewlett Court Newsletter Holiday Guests During March: Mary Ashworth March Birthdays: Joyce Howarth 2 nd March In the spring of the year, in the spring of the year, I walked the road beside my dear. The trees were black where the bark was wet. I see them yet, in the spring of the year. He broke me a bough of the blossoming peach That was out of the way and hard to reach. In the fall of the year, in the fall of the year, I walked the road beside my dear. The rooks went up with a raucous trill. I hear them still, in the fall of the year. He laughed at all I dared to praise, And broke my heart, in little ways. Year be springing or year be falling, The bark will drip and the birds be calling. There's much that's fine to see and hear In the spring of a year, in the fall of a year. 'Tis not love's going hurt my days. But that it went in little ways. Good News We would like to announce that Hewlett Court now has a new Manager! Beverley Schofield has taken on the role of Manager. Beverley has been Hewlett Court s Acting Manager since September and now has taken the role on permanently. We wish you all the best and we know you will be an asset to Hewlett Court.

Page 2 of 6 ELMC Spring Party Every year the Chairman of the Comforts Fund Charles Ward (with the help of Julie Ward) arranges the annual spring party for the beneficiaries of the ELMC. This is all paid for by the Comforts Fund. This year the ELMC Spring Party will be taking place at Audenshaw Masonic Hall on Tuesday 11 th April 2017. There will be a 3 course meal served with entertainment. If any residents are interested in attending the event please speak to Julie, Charles or Beverley. There is also a list on the notice board outside the dining room for anyone wanting to attend to write their name down. Valentine s Day On Tuesday 14 th February the dining room was decorated with hearts and balloons to celebrate Valentines Day. Chocolate heart lollies were given out to each resident and they enjoyed heart shaped biscuits at tea time. I am sure you will agree it looked lovely.

Page 3 of 6 Ernest Norbury Birthday Surprise Sunday 26 th February was a special day for Hewlett Court s resident Ernest as he celebrated his 97 th birthday. Not only was it his birthday but Ernest s son David and daughter-in-law Pam had arranged for a Scottish Pipe and Drum Band to come and play for Ernest on his special day. Ernest didn t know what to expect when he was told to come outside. Ernest was delighted when he heard the Oldham Scottish Pipe Band playing in the distance, walking to meet him and play for him. Ernest was a former player in the Scottish Pipe Band and was excited to know they had come to play especially for him. All residents watched the Scottish Pipe Band perform a few numbers and all enjoyed it.

Page 4 of 6 A Very Warm Welcome We would like to welcome Molly Harper to Hewlett Court. Molly has become a permanent resident. I am sure you will all make her feel welcome in her new home. We wish you a healthy and happy future at Hewlett Court Molly. Sponsored Walk The girls of Hewlett Court are starting a training regime in order to be able to complete the eight mile midnight walk they are doing to raise money for Bolton Hospice. The walk is taking place on 17 th June at midnight through Bolton. The girls that are taking part are Julie Ward, Bev Schofield, Rachel Cookson, Debra Munteanu, Zena Crumbleholme, Karen Hall, Courtney Barrow and Layla Harrison. Sponsors would be greatly appreciated, this could be done by filling in the sponsor form on the noticeboard outside the dining room, this could also be done online at https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/julie-ward21 or dropping any loose change into the boxes in the reception area and in the office. Any donation helps and all money raised will be going to a very good cause. Meetings As usual there are always meetings taking place at Hewlett Court. This month s meetings that are taking place are as follows:- Young Peoples Meeting Tuesday 7 th March Fundraising Committee Monday 13 th March Cinema Night Another cinema night took place with popcorn and drinks served to the residents. This time The Notebook was played on the big screen. Residents enjoyed the film and the popcorn. We will be having more Cinema Nights in the future so if anyone has a film that they think would be enjoyed by everyone please mention it to Debbie. Committee of Benevolence Tuesday 28 th March Pancakes Residents enjoyed pancakes on Shrove Tuesday. Mel and Rachel worked hard to make over 90 pancakes in time for the residents at teatime.
