On-prgramme Activities A rbust prcess f n-prgramme learning activities will ensure that apprentices make gd prgress twards the end pint assessment, which itself will be f sufficient quality t attest t the level f skills, knwledge and behaviurs required in the Pest Cntrl Technician standard. Emplyers may wish t use their nrmal perfrmance management prcesses t mnitr the prgress f the apprentice, prvide feedback and guide develpment. Training prviders may wish t supprt this by ensuring that the requirements f the apprenticeship are reflected in these prcesses and by filling any gaps thrugh their wrk with apprentices. Emplyers and training prviders may wish t carry ut jint reviews f prgress at 3 mnthly intervals, invlving apprentices, line managers and thers directly invlved e.g. mentrs, wrkplace caches, etc. There is a mandatry Prtfli f Evidence that the Apprentice will, during the curse f their apprenticeship, create and maintain in rder t prvide supprting evidence that will be needed t supplement the knwledge, skills and behaviurs (KSBs) bserved by the Independent Assessr at the End Pint Assessment. the apprenticeship and demnstrate that the apprentice is a fully cmpetent Pest Cntrl Technician. The End Pint Assessment uses the fllwing three cmpnents and shuld be undertaken in this rder: ST0429 Knwledge Test (20% weighting); this will cver areas f underpinning and applied Knwledge Practical Assessment (40% weighting); an bservatin f practical skills in which the apprentice will demnstrate their skills, behaviurs and underlying knwledge, as required by the Pest Cntrl Technician Standard Prfessinal Discussin (40% weighting); this will take the frm f a prfessinal discussin based n the evidence prvided in the prtfli review See Appendix 1 fr details f which assessment methd will be used t assess each element f the Standard. Further details n each assessment element are prvided belw. Knwledge Test (Stage 1) Apprentices will be required t cmplete a technical based Knwledge Test cnsisting f a ttal f 40 multiple chice questins taken under examinatin cnditins in a cntrlled envirnment. The Knwledge Test will cnsist f a mix f direct and scenari based questins. Each multiple chice questin will have fur respnse ptins with ne crrect ptin. Questins will cver knwledge elements detailed in the Pest Management Knwledge, Skills & Behaviurs (Appendix 1) and will fcus n the sectin Cre Technical Skills in which 20 tpics are cvered. Each tpic will have a minimum f 5 questins in a questin bank f sufficient size t mitigate predictability, and will be set, held and mderated by the Assessment Organisatin. The Knwledge Test will ensure that 2 questins are asked n each tpic frm the Pest Management Cre Technical Skills in Appendix 1. The Knwledge Test will take the frm f a written questin paper. The duratin will be n lnger than 1 hur and shuld take a minimum f 45 minutes t cmplete enablling apprentices t demnstrate cre technical knwledge acrss the Pest Cntrl Technician Standard. The Knwledge Test will take place at the start f the assessment day, ahead f the Practical Assessment and Prfessinal Discussin. The questins will be determined and standardised by assessment rganisatins in cnsultatin with representative emplyers. The apprentice will take the Knwledge Test in a suitably cntrlled envirnment mutually agreed between the assessment rganisatin and emplyer and be invigilated by the independent assessr appinted by the end-pint assessment rganisatin. Invigilating can be cnducted n a ne-t-ne r ne-t-many basis, up t a maximum rati f ne assessr t three apprentices in rder t ensure sufficient time can be allcated by the assessr t undertake the further tw assessment mdules within the assessment perid stated. The test will be marked immediately by the independent assessr, fllwing a marking guide prduced by the assessment rganisatin. The Knwledge Test will be marked ut f 100 marks. The 40 questins in the test will each have a mark f 2.5 fr every crrect answer given; a minimum f 60 marks will be needed 7 Crwn cpyright 2018 Yu may re-use this infrmatin (nt including lgs) free f charge in any frmat r medium, under the terms f the Open Gvernment Licence. Practical Assessment (Stage 2) Apprentices will cmplete a practical bservatin assessment, typically t match the tasks described in the Practical Assessment Table 1 belw and the assciated perfrmance criteria (Table 2). During cmpletin f the tasks in a real wrk envirnment, apprentices will be expected t demnstrate the knwledge, skills and behaviurs they have learnt thrugh cmpletin f the apprenticeship prcess thrugh: Cmmunicating with team members and thers Demnstrating apprpriate behaviur expected in the wrkplace Wrking t agreed prcesses and methds If, during the practical assessment, the pprtunities t assess all the required knwledge, skills and behaviurs (KSBs) d nt naturally arise, an additinal 15 minutes at the end f the bservatin can be allcated. This time will be used by the Assessr t ask a maximum f 10 questins with the aim f prviding the the apprentice with the pprtunity t demnstrate thse KSBs that may nt have been bserved. The duratin f the Practical Assessment will be n lnger than 2 hurs and shuld take a minimum f 1 hur, 45 minutes t cmplete. The Practical Asssessment will take place after the Knwledge Test and will take the frm f a site survey in a real wrk envirnment. The Practical Assessment will be managed and marked by an independent assessr appinted by the end-pint assessment rganisatin n a ne-t-ne basis. This shuld be the same independent assessr wh cnducts the Knwledge Test and Prfessinal Discussin see belw. The independent assessr must be currently wrking in the industry and be ccupatinally cmpetent. During the bservatin, assessrs will have freedm t ask questins in supprt f the tasks being bserved. Assessment rganisatins will prvide standardised questin sets and a questin template upn which t recrd the assessment utcme. The Practical Assessment will prvide the pprtunity fr the apprentice t demnstrate cre and specific knwledge, skills and behaviurs as detailed in Appendix 1 in a real-life wrk situatin. This will ffer the pprtunity t bring tgether and apply their learning. Apprentices will be assessed t cnfirm that they can apply their knwledge t safely perfrm peratinal pest cntrl activities with minimum supervisin. The Practical Assessment will be marked ut f 100 marks; a minimum f 60 marks will be needed t pass. Criteria fr marking and grading the practical assessment are shwn in Table 2. The Practical Assessment mark will prvide a percentage scre twards the verall apprentice grade when the weighting fr this assessment methd is applied i.e. Practical Assessment mark x 0.4 [Practical Assessment 40% weighting] = Practical Assessment percentage scre twards verall apprenticeship grading. 9 Crwn cpyright 2018 Yu may re-use this infrmatin (nt including lgs) free f charge in any frmat r medium, under the terms f the Open Gvernment Licence.
