This meeting is open to all 4-H leaders, parents and youth. 4-H OPEN ENROLLMENT DAY 4-H Open Enrollment Day is Saturday, Sept. 22 from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the 4-H Youth Building. 4-H Clubs - please plan to attend! We are asking that you have a table with an activity, and be prepared to talk with youth and families about 4-H. Re-enrollment packets will be available that day to pick up. RECRUITMENT OPPORTUNITY The Candor Fall Festival is Saturday, Oct. 6. For more information and to sign up, please contact Rita Kellogg at 607-659-4121. This is a great opportunity to do some 4-H recruiting!

The grand champion market steer raised by Alysa Williams, Animal Aholics 4-H Club, weighed 1335 lbs., and was purchased by Bryan s Meat Cutting, Milan, PA for $3.20 per pound. The reserve grand champion market steer raised by Gavin Lindhorst, Animal Aholics 4-H Club, weighed 1134 lbs., and was purchased by Ward & Van Scoy, Inc., Owego, NY for $2.55 per pound. The breeder of the grand champion market steer was Bryan s Family Farm, East Smithfield, PA. Three market steers sold for an average of $2.90 per pound. The grand champion market hog raised by Ryan Huizinga, Flora & Fauna Friends 4-H Club, weighed 250 lbs., and was purchased by Home Central, Owego, NY $5.25 per pound. The reserve grand

champion market hog raised by Tammy Perrotta, Farm Fanatics 4-H Club, weighed 285 lbs., and was purchased by Ralph Porter, Waverly, NY for $3.50 per pound. The breeder of the grand champion market hog was Luke Nichols, East Smithfield, PA. Eighteen market hogs sold for an average of $2.63 per pound. The grand champion market lamb raised by Ryan Huizinga, Flora & Fauna Friends 4-H Club, weighed 109 lbs., and was purchased by Home Central, Owego, NY for $2.75 per pound. The reserve grand champion market lamb was raised by Kyle Jantz, Flora & Fauna Friends 4-H Club, weighed 90 lbs., and was purchased by Patrick Ballester, Candor, NY for $2.75 per pound. Seven lambs sold for an average of $3.16 per pound. The breeder of the grand champion market lamb was Dr. Chuck Guard, DVM, Lansing, NY. The grand champion market goat raised by Rachel Brennan, All Over Clover Kids 4-H Club, weighed 90 lbs., and was purchased by Wyalusing Livestock, Wyalusing, PA, for $2.60 per pound. The reserve grand champion market goat was raised by Rosie Hines, All Over Clover Kids 4-H Club, weighed 54 lbs., and was purchased by Hottle Livestock, Rome, PA for $2.00 per pound. Two goats sold for an average of $2.38 per pound. The breeder of the grand champion market goat was Our 5 Acre Homestead, Michelle Kline, Berkshire, NY. The grand champion meat bird pen was raised by Jacob Guiles, Flora & Fauna Friends 4-H Club, held four birds and was purchased by Don Light Farrier Service, Binghamton, NY for $320.00. The reserve grand champion meat bird pen, holding five birds, was raised by Madison Peabody, Paws to Think 4-H Club, and was purchased by Johnson Pools, Owego, NY for $225.00. Twenty-one meat birds sold for an average of $4.57 per pound. The grand champion meat rabbit pen was raised by Madison Peabody, Paws to Think 4-H Club, and was purchased by Michele Kline, Owego, NY for $35.00. Thank you to Farmer Brown s, Apalachin, NY, for donating the hanging baskets that were auctioned off to support 4-H programming, and to Goodrich Auction Service, Inc. for all they do to support the 4-H Program. 4-H CLUB REPORTS Ranch Riders 4-H Club.... The Ranch Riders 4-H Club marched in the Nichols Old Home Day parade on Labor Day. The them was Community Coming Together so we dressed as community helpers: firefighter, doctor, mailman, football player and construction worker. We had a lot of fun!

4-H DAY AT THE GREAT NEW YORK STATE FAIR Rachel Brennan and Katie Popp had a 4-H Day table at the NYS Fair on Saturday, August 25th. We had a sensory activity for fair visitors, passed out 4-H Trail maps, answered a lot of questions about 4-H and demonstrated how to use drop spindles to turn dyed wool into yarn. 4-H members from across the state brought activities and project animals for fair visitors to enjoy. FFA members and people from Cornell University brought hands-on, educational activities.

4-H MEETINGS AND DEADLINES... The CCE Conference Room is on the basement level of the Ronald E. Dougherty County Office Building formerly the Tioga Co. Office Building (TCOB). 4-H Open Enrollment Day... Saturday, Sept. 22, 10 a.m. to noon, 4-H Youth Building. 4-H Clubs are invited to spend the morning doing activities with visitors. 4-H Record Books Due... Friday, Sept. 28, in the 4-H Office. Members must fully complete and turn in their 2017-18 4-H Record Books in order to be considered for year end awards. 4-H Achievement Night... Friday, Nov. 9, 6:00 p.m. Location is yet to be determined.
