Using the AV Arm Harness (Optional extra) Standard - Brown Part No: 00 As per the Standard - Light. Package supplied (where different) Skin - Brown Part No: 0099 Standard - Black Part No: 00 As per the Standard - Light. Package supplied (where different) Skin - Black Part No: 0097 Important: handling & hygiene Venepuncture training is a potentially messy process so always set the product up on a wipe clean surface. The instructions supplied in this User Guide are designed to minimise the risk of any spillage. Even so, it is a good idea to keep paper towelling close to hand just in case. The AV Arm Harness allows for role playing to be carried out. It is available as an optional accessory. Order Part No: 0000 The AV Arm Harness is designed to fit over the right shoulder and upper arm. The Harness has a mounting point to which the Arm is attached. Insert the mounting point into the end of the Arm...... and rotate the Arm until it is screwed fully onto the mounting point. Do not wear good clothes when training with this product. If concentrate or Mock Blood gets onto clothing it should be immediately flushed with water to avoid permanent staining. Any remaining marks will come out using a biological detergent. If concentrate or Mock Blood gets into the eyes flush with plenty of cold water. Observe normal hygiene procedures after handling the product. 0

Components 4 5 6 Skin - Light Part No: 009 Skin - Brown Part No: 0099 Skin - Black Part No: 0097 Rest Part No: 000 095 SV Arm Veins Part No: 00 (With adhesive fastening strips) Concentrated Venous Blood - Starter Pack Part No: 0000 Attach the top veins and push the transparent tubes back into the arm so that the connectors fit snugly. Fit the veins into the grooves and wrap the supplied tape around the upper ACF area to hold them in place. Get another person to help you if necessary. Attach the Y shaped connector and push the transparent tube back into the arm so that the connector fits snugly. Fit the veins into the grooves of the forearm and tape them in place. Settle the veins into the grooves correctly. The arm is now ready to have the skin fitted. Ensure that the veins around the hand fit in the grooves correctly. Bag & Stand Mock Blood Supply Part No: 006 Infusion Tube Part No: 005 0 9

Changing the Veins Storing the Arm (Depending on version bought) Cardboard box Case: top layer Case: bottom layer IMPORTANT Before changing the veins follow the procedures Emptying the Blood Bag & Veins (page 5) and Removing the Skin (page 6). NOTE: The AV Arm & Vein is shown in this section. The procedure for the SV Arm is the same. Disconnect the upper connectors first. Gently pull the lower connector out of the palm. Hold the transparent tube and pull the Y shaped connector out from it. Remove the vein and discard it. Avoid spilling any residual blood left in the veins. Lay the new vein on the work surface in the correct position ( veins at the top, small hand veins with Y shaped connector at the bottom). The Bag & Stand is stored underneath the cardboard insert. The Carry Case is an optional extra. Bottom layer has additional storage for accessories. Remove and discard the strips of tape running around the thumb, wrist, and the upper ACF area. (New tape is supplied with the replacement veins). 8

Setting up the Standard Fitting the Skin Place the base on the work surface. Screw together the two parts of the Stand. Push the Stand through the collar and into the hole in the base. Tighten the red knob. Hang the Bag on the hook. Push the pressure tube attached to the Bag lid into the black plastic clips. Avoid any kinks in the pressure tube by making sure that there is large u-bend at the top. To make the Skin easier to attach, lubricate the arm with the supplied waterbased lubricant. Ensure that the hand, forearm and upper arm are well lubricated. Align the Skin with the underlying anatomy of the arm. Gently work the Skin up the arm. Pull the fingers onto the hand. Slide the Skin up to the top of the arm. Ensure that the ridge around the inside engages with groove at the top. If necessary, slide the Skin around slightly so that it fits the arm anatomy properly. 7

Removing the Skin 4 5 6 Using both hands, roll the upper part of the Skin down over onto itself as far as it will go. Do not force the Skin. Fold the Skin down over onto itself again. Note: If necessary apply a thin layer of washingup liquid to the outside of the Skin. This will enable it to slide over itself. Gently pull the Skin down onto the wrist. Gently pull the Skin off the wrist and onto the hand. The hand should gradually go floppy as the Skin is worked off the arm. Once most of the Skin is off the arm, hold the Skin by the upper part...... and remove it. Place the Arm in position on the Arm Rest. Fill the Concentrated Venous Blood - Starter Pack with water up to the level indicated on the label. Tightly screw on the cap and gently invert the Starter Pack 5 or 6 times to thoroughly mix the contents. Do not shake. The Mock Blood is ready to use. When properly mixed there should be no dark streaks of concentrate visible on the sides or bottom of the Starter Pack. You may want to use a funnel or to decant the blood into a jug when pouring it into the Bag. Hold the Bag lid down with your thumb and carefully pour the blood in. For safety, leave the Bag hooked onto the Stand whilst doing this. Close the top of the Bag and make sure the lid is sealed. 6

Emptying the Blood Bag and Veins 7 8 9 Connect the black sleeved tube on the Arm to the black sleeved fluid feed on the bottom of the Bag. Connect the other tube on the Arm to the pressure tube attached to the Bag lid. The veins will start to fill. The process takes about a minute. Ensure that the connectors are level...... by gently raising or lowering the pressure tube. When the blood in the pressure tube has settled, check that the level of it matches that of the blood in the Bag. If the levels do not match there may be air bubbles in the veins or tubes. Raise the shoulder end of the Arm to allow any trapped bubbles to rise up and into the pressure tube. Tapping the Arm and tubes with your finger will help to dislodge air bubbles. Place the Starter Pack on the floor near the Arm. Check that the Infusion Tube will easily reach from the Starter Pack to the Arm. Insert the end of the Infusion Tube and push it down to the bottom of the Starter Pack. Leave the tube on the floor. Note: the Infusion Tube may be cut down to a more suitable length if required Disconnect the Arm tube from the pressure tube attached to the Bag lid. Carefully pick up the loose end of Infusion Tube and connect it to the Arm. Make sure that the other end of the Tube is still inside the Starter Pack. The blood will now drain out into the Starter Pack. This will take several minutes depending upon how much blood is in the Bag. When all of the blood has drained, carefully remove the Infusion Tube from the Starter Pack and wipe the remaining blood from it. Tap the end of the Tube to dislodge any blood remaining in it. If the Arm is not to be used for a long period of time, flush the system through by filling the Bag with water and repeating Stages to. Replace the Starter Pack with another container big enough to hold the water. 4 5
