CISAA Gymnastics Guidelines 2011-12 1. Rule Book OFSAA Gymnastics Rules & CISAA Girls Gymnastics Regulations See OFSAA Website: www.ofsaa.on.ca 2. Age Groups Grade 5 12 Optional and Compulsory categories 3. Player Eligibility Artistic Categories Optional and Compulsory categories are open to all grades (5 12), but competitors may only participate in one or the other Students may repeat compulsory levels at the discretion of the coaches. Students who are OFSAA eligible must compete no lower than compulsory level two. Rhythmic Categories Students may compete either compulsory or optional, but not both. 4. Officials For the CISAA championship meets, officials must be from Gymnastics Ontario. There shall be at least one GO approved judge per event. 5. League Structure Competitors consist of invitational meets and the CISAA championships (rhythmic and artistic). 6. Scoring The details of scoring are fully outlined in the accompanying regulations for rhythmic and compulsory artistic gymnastics. OFSAA rules apply for optional artistic gymnastics. 7. Length of Game N/A 8. Tie Break Formats N/A 9. Player/Coach Discipline Athletes and coaches are expected to display good sportsmanship at all times.

10. Equipment Requirements a. For attire, refer to OFSAA rules. Rhythmic same as artistic. b. Artistic Events i. Beam compulsory level 1 and 2-1.00 m. ii. Vault compulsory level 1 and 2 1.00 m (as close as possible with mats available) iii. Floor compulsory level 1 and 2 can be performed on a single strip of mat c. Rhythmic Events i. Compulsory one of hoop, rope, ball, clubs or ribbon to be decided each year ii. Optional two of hoop, rope, ball, clubs or ribbon to be decided each year iii. Individual event specifications ribbon between 5 and 6 metres; for other events, refer to GO website 11. Convenor Responsibilities a. The convenor must organize the CISAA championship meet: i. Book an appropriate facility that has all the necessary gymnastic equipment ii. Arrange for at least one GO official per event iii. Inform & invoice coaches of entry cost (the cost of renting the iv. facility plus the cost of officials) Determine event rotation order for warm up and competition and send out to coaches b. Following a meeting with other coaches, the convenor should make a written report of the event and this should be included in the gymnastics file. The OFSAA qualifying meet may be run by another convenor, if necessary. 12. Single Day Tournament The Artistic gymnastic event will be a one day championship meet held at an appropriate club/facility before March Break. The Rhythmic gymnastic meet will be held on a separate day at an appropriate facility before March Break. Where possible, there should not be more than one meet scheduled per week.

Artistic Gymnastics Competition Rules Gymnastics may only compete in one artistic gymnastics category (either compulsory or optional) Gymnasts may enter one or more event(s) in their category. Substitutions may be made on the day of the meet. a. Artistic Gymnastics Categories: Compulsory Category There will be both a Compulsory One category (least experienced gymnasts) and a Compulsory Two category (more experienced gymnasts). Each school may enter a maximum of 8 girls per division. Per event Optional Category Gymnasts will create their own routines following the OFSAA gymnastics guidelines. (OFSAA levels 1 to 6) b. Artistic Gymnastics Event Specifications: Artistic Gymnastics Routine Requirements Compulsory One Routine Requirements Floor Scored out of 10 points Move restrictions include: walkovers, springs (exception: round-off) Must include one leap line (at least 2 consecutive leaps or jumps) with or without a chassé in between Must include at least one tumbling line (3 consecutive acrobatic moves) Must include one balance on one foot(held for 2 seconds) BONUS: up to a maximum of 0.5 for inclusion of a handstand roll Beam Scored out of 10 points Must be at least 1 line of the beam Must include at least one leap line (2 consecutive leaps or jumps) Must include one balance on one foot (held for 2 seconds) Move restrictions include rolls, cartwheels Dismount must be a jump (i.e. no round-off dismount) Must have at least one change of direction Vault Scored out of 10 points Handspring splat Coaches may stand by the apparatus, but if they spot the athlete, the vault is void Compulsory Two Routine Requirements Floor Scored out of 10 points Move restrictions include: handsprings or aerials of any kind

Must have at least one leap line (2 consecutive leaps or jumps) with or without a chassé in between Must have 2 tumbling lines (3 consecutive acrobatic moves in one of them) Must include a handstand roll Must include one balance on one foot (held for 2 seconds) Beam Scored out of 10 points2 lines of the beam Must include one leap line of 2 consecutive leaps or jumps Must include one full pivot turn (360) performed on two feet Must include at least one balance on one foot (held for 2 seconds) Dismount must be a round-off BONUS: up to a maximum of 0.5 for inclusion of a roll Rolls may include any forward or backward or backward shoulder rolls. There will be no penalty for a fall. Must be at least Vault Scored out of 10 points Handspring splat Coaches may stand by the apparatus, but if they spot the athlete, the vault is void Optional Routine Requirements See OFSAA guidelines. a. Artistic Gymnastics Awards CISAA ribbons will be given to the top 6 finishers on each event in Compulsory 1 and Compulsory 2 and for 1st to 6 th in each event in the Optional category, Levels 1 6. All-round ribbons from 1 st to 6th will be awarded based on the aggregate score of all events per gymnast per category. Compulsory Division The top 5 scores per event (floor, beam, vault) in either Compulsory 1 or Compulsory 2 will be totalled. The school with the highest total (15 scores) shall be declared the CISAA Compulsory Team Champion. Optional Division Score Adjustment Formula: This formula is designed so that all athlete scores are weighed on an equal level when calculating the CISAA Optional Team Champion. All scores will be divided by the highest possible score for their level and multiplied by 100 to create a percentage that will be used as a real number (not a percentage) when calculating the overall score. The top 5 adjusted scores per FX, BB and V as well as the best 2 UB scores will be totaled to determine the Optional Team Champion.

Overall Artistic Team Champion Total score for the Compulsory Team shall be added together with the total score for the Optional Team. The school with the highest overall team score shall be declared the CISAA Overall Artistic Gymnastics Champion. 2. Rhythmic Gymnastics Routine Requirements Compulsory Groups Groups will consist of 4 6 people Only one apparatus will be used chosen by the coaches from one of the five disciplines Routine must be performed exactly as set by the coaches at the preseason clinic, including beginning, ending and formation on the floor There is a deduction of 0.5 for groups having less than 4 people or more than 6 Optional Groups Groups will consist of 4 6 people Two different apparati will be used chosen by the coaches at the preseason meeting, in order to create consistency for the judges. Required elements (must be performed by all group members) Minimum of 3 different formations Minimum of 3 exchanges, one of a distance of at least 3 metres Minimum of one balance on one foot, held for 2 seconds Minimum of one full pirouette on one foot Minimum of one leap series of 3 leaps Music must be between 1 minute and 2 minutes in length and instrumental without vocals on separate CD There is a deduction of 0.5 for groups having less than 4 people or more than 6 13. Scoring The total score will consist of the Technical Value plus the Artistic Value plus the Execution Value. 14. Awards CISAA ribbons will be given to the 1 st to 6 th teams in each of Compulsory and Optional Categories. A CISAA plaque will be awarded to the Compulsory Team Champion, the Optional Team Champion and the Overall CISAA Champion School.

Gold and silver medals will be awarded to the Optional team competition only. A school s top compulsory team score shall be added to their top optional team score. The school with the top combined score shall be declared the overall CISAA Rhythmic Champion. A CISAA plaque and will be awarded. 15. Safety The host school is responsible for providing medical care for all meets. This person must be qualified to deal with athletic injuries and be prepared to handle emergency situations.
