Villa Cresta Elementary February, 2014 Newsletter Dear Parents/Guardians, As we begin the third quarter of the school year, we are working hard to optimize instruction and need your support in making sure students arrive promptly for homeroom which begins at 9:00. Homeroom is the springboard of our instructional day. Expectations for the day s learning, homework review and warm-up activities begin in homeroom. Students arriving late will miss critical information needed to start their day. If you are dropping off in the morning, make sure that you follow the loop around to the drop off point. It has come to my attention that students are dropped off in the parking lot and many people are cutting through the parking lot in the morning and not using the sidewalks or crosswalks. Please help us keep our students safe! Please review your child s report card and check to see if a conference is requested. If you wish to confer with the teacher, please schedule a conference. Teachers are always willing to engage you in the learning process we need you as partners. Congratulations to Brooke Taylor who won $1000 for our school to buy some additional PE equipment. Look for the story within this newsletter. Stay safe and warm during these cold, cold days! Sincerely, Leslie Dunn, Principal School Closing Hotline (410) 887-5555 Baltimore County Public School Website www.bcps.org Villa Cresta Elementary Website www.villacrestaes.org

Message from PTA President- Jamie Vilcarino Dear Parents/Guardians, The Scholastic Book Fair will run from January 27 th - January 31 st in school. If you were unable to participate during the week that s ok! We are now offering you the ability to go directly to the website for purchases: http://bookfairs.scholastic.com/bookfairs/ cptoolkit/homepage.do?method=homepage&url=villacrestasch&appesp=cpt/ ib/20120101///txtl/fairfindertohomepage Your books will be shipped directly to the school after the store closes online Feb 11 th. THANK YOU, to Bea Wells for organizing the Book Fair, and Kristi Halford for planning the Ice Cream Social. The Annual Camp Fund Committee will be selling pencils for Valentine s Day. See the attached flyer for more information. It s not too late to become a PTA Member. Check out the attached flyer for more information. At this time the PTA would like to announce that we will not be holding Spring Fling as we have in years past. We are hoping to host another event, slightly lower key that would still offer the silent auction. If you would like to offer suggestions please come to the PTA meeting or email me directly. HELP WANTED: This year is an election year for the Villa Cresta PTA. We will be forming a Nominating Committee and soliciting people to become officers. The following positions are open: President (only restriction is that you must have been an officer of this PTA within the last 5 years), Treasurer, 1 st Vice President, 2 nd VP, Recording Secretary and Corresponding Secretary. If you are interested in more information contact me and I will answer any questions. We are also looking for interest in our committees, ie: Hot Dog Night, Ice Cream Social, Fall Fundraiser, as well as many more. In order for our PTA to continue we need help from our parents and community. Without chairpersons these activities may not happen in the future. For committee information email me for the list. The next PTA Board meeting is on Wednesday, February 12 th at 6:30. The meeting will be held in the library. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please email Jamie Vilcarino at jmrlm@yahoo.com.
