It seems like everyday I see a few more familiar faces returning from their winter paradise in Florida, or Fort Wayne, or Toledo. The ice is off the water. Docks are appearing and a few nut-jobs are even skiing! It won t be long before we can all toast to spring in the friendly confines of the Clear Lake Yacht Club. Of course, before that can happen we have some cleaning to do. Clean-up Day is Saturday, May 7 at 9am. Last year we had a great turnout, which meant that no one person had to work terribly hard and some people may have accidentally had fun. Jim Geiger, 2011 House Manager, will have a list of jobs to sign up for and the necessary supplies. Your help will be sincerely appreciated. Please make an effort to be there and please bring cleaning supplies, rags, etc. There s one other preseason issue I d like to mention. The Friday night TGIF parties have grown into something very special. What started as a few members bringing meatballs and veggie dip has turned into a dining event. Most Fridays are a casual affair with no RSVP required and the meal is reasonably priced. However, on some Fridays like Men s Night, Steak Night, Polish Night, etc. we turn it up a notch. On those nights the cost is a little more and we ask members to RSVP. Because we only budget to 7 Calling ALL Sailors Boat lifts will be put in on May 7 at 9am. All mooring sailors are expected to be there or pay a fee of $100.... Terry Cornelius M A Y 2 0 1 1 break even at these events, it s important that we have an accurate head count. Last year the club lost $1,000 due to TGIF no-shows. We understand that things come up, but if you sign up for one of the special TGIF meals this year please be respectful and inform the TGIF committee by Tuesday if you are unable to attend. If the problem continues we will be forced to either discontinue these events or start charging the no-shows and that s no fun. I m excited to get this season started and anxious to see you at the club. Until then, think warm thoughts! Sincerely, Commodore Chad Korte

V O L U M E 7 5, I S S U E 1 P a g e 2 TGIF Inside Scoop..... by Sandy Ayres Our first TGIF is Friday, May 20 at 6:30 p.m.--- That s Italian will be hosted by Rick and Angie Corcimiglia. You may know them by Rickles Pickles! This promises to be a great evening so plan to join us. On Friday, May 27, Sandy Ayres and her committee will cook up a delicious roast beef sub call me if you wanna help just a casual menu to get the season rolling. By now all of you should have received a letter outlining the TGIF program for this summer. Based on your suggestions from last year, we are making things simple and putting together all of your all-time favorites. The menu is set, a simple theme with table décor is provided, and the larger events already have a chair leading the show. If they need help, we will let you know so you can volunteer. Other nights just need a few ladies (men too!) to help prepare a side or salad, make appetizers and desserts, help get the food on the serving bar, collect donations, and help Ashley in the table set-up and cleanup. Here is your chance to help out with one of the suggested menus on Friday, June 3. How about a Honey Baked Ham night or Pizza Night or the famous ABC Carry-In. We will lay it all out we just need a little help putting it on the table! Call Sandy Ayres 260-437- 2130 or 260-495-2198 or ayrs1225@aol.com. This year all of our casual TGIF nights will be $8.00 per person and young children will be $4.00. The very special nights which require reservations such as Men s Night, All American Night, Polish Night will be $12.00 per person and $6.00 for young children. And don t forget, the Ski Club will be flipping burgers and grilling hot dogs outside on the patio. Watch your email each week as we will be sending out TGIF Inside Scoop weekly info to keep you informed of up and coming events, the menu, special events that evening such as music or inflatables for the children. May 20 First TGIF That s Italian by Rickles Pickles 6:30 PM Ski Club News..... by Erin Stephens We are looking forward to another fun summer season for ski club members. Our officers this summer are : Erin Stephens-president, Taryn Gay-vice president, Alivia Behnfeldt-treasurer, Jarrett Beck-secretary. Meetings this summer will be on Saturday mornings at 10am at the Yacht Club. Our first meeting will be May 28 th. We have a fun social evening planned for Sunday, May 29 th, 7-9pm. I hope you plan to attend, and bring a friend too. Mark your calendars the ski show is scheduled for Sunday, July 24, 2pm. V O L U M E 7 5, I S S U E 1 P a g e 3 Court News Summer is just around the corner and, after a long winter, everyone is ready for the tennis matches to begin on the CLYC courts. There will be many opportunities to play this summer. We encourage all CLYC members to pay the small Tennis Member fee to join in the fun. The final steps to our $19,000+ tennis court refurbishment will be completed as soon as Clear Lake weather cooperates. Thanks to the many people who have already made donations for this project through the Voluntary Donations - Tennis Refurbishment line item on the Membership Application. Free youth (8 years and older) tennis lessons will be held this summer. Timing is uncertain due to availability of coaches. If you d like to help coach or if you have a child anxious to learn, let me know. If you have questions or suggestions, please contact Barb Wenger at barbwenger@gmail.com or call (904) 273-0657 until the end of May. See you soon on the courts!... by Barb Wenger Sailing Camp Set For July 13-15... by Chris Hughes Welcome back Clear Lakers to another wonderful summer of sailing! The Sailing School will be hosting a sailing camp on July 13th, 14th, and 15th this summer. Each day will begin at 1:00pm and last until 5:00pm. Tuition will be $55 per student. Club membership is not required. Students should have a snack, life jacket, and sunscreen. We encourage students 9 and above, but younger students will be accepted if the desire is there. Club Rentals We are also encouraging adults to join in on the sailing fun this year. If you are interested in learning to sail, want to learn about one of the boats we race on Clear Lake, or have your own boat and want to learn how to sail it better, come join the fun. Separate dates for adults may be scheduled if there is enough interest. Please email CLYCSailingSchool@gmail.com or call 260-243-0448 to sign up. The Sailing School is also looking to update its fleet. This will benefit the kids in the school to become better sailors. You may donate to the Sailing School by sending a check to the club with Sailing School in the memo line, or contact the email address or phone number above. All donations to the Sailing School are tax deductible. Sandy Ayres will be keeping the CLYC rental calendar. Please contact her to see if your date is available 260-437-2130 or 260-495-2198 or ayrs1225@aol.com. Sandy will then have Eric Tyler contact the member to sign a contract and get details on type of bar setup needed. A deposit and the signed contract will then be sent to the Yacht Club and complete rental payment must be made before the rental date. Deposit is returned after the event if the club is left in good order.
