The selections will be unveiled in the annual calendar issue of the magazine which will be available in early July. The staff selected the winning photographs from hundreds of submissions and had the challenge to narrow the entries to 13 photos that will appear in the calendar issue. The 2016-17 calendar issue will begin with the month of August. Other entries will be kept on file and could have the opportunity to appear in future agency publications. The photographers, who have entries that will appear in the 2016-17 calendar are Donna Bourdon (Ooltewah), Cecil Cal Calloway (Murfreesboro), Bruce Cole (Kingsport), Jenna Crovo (Auburn, Ala.), Doug Dearinger (Frankfort, Ky.), Denise Hilley (Sevierville), Ken LaValley (Walland), Genevieve Martin (Knoxville), David Mayes (Pulaski), Brian Shults (Greenback), and Jim Williams (Ethridge). The staff of Tennessee Wildlife offers congratulations to all of the winners and reminds photographers that if your photo was not chosen this year, your next year s entry could be a winner. Rules and deadlines for the 2017-18 Tennessee Wildlife photo contest will appear in the fall and winter issues of the magazine and also in the fall on the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency s website, www. tnwildlife.org. Photographers will again be invited to submit their best photos on fishing and wildlife species native to the Volunteer State, and fishing and hunting scenes in Tennessee. - TWRA - Support Our Advertisers With YOUR Business! DOUGLAS LAKE 2016 Boating Season Kicks Off with Memorial Day Holiday Weekend NASHVILLE --- Memorial Day holiday weekend is regarded as the unofficial start to the summer boating season and the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency wants to emphasize the use of life jackets while boating in a safe and responsible manner. 1114 Douglas Dam Rd, Dandridge, TN 37725 Fishing Supplies - Live Bait - Licenses - Groceries - Deli - Take Out Open 7 Days 6am - 10pm Call In Orders Welcome! OUR DELI HAS DAILY BREAKFAST & DINNER SPECIALS AVAILABLE! Annually, the Memorial Day weekend is one of the year s busiest boating weekends. Last year, there were not any boating-related fatalities over the holiday weekend. Along with the use of life jackets, TWRA wants to stress the responsible use of alcohol while boating. It is important to consider the effects of drinking and driving whether on water or land. In a boat on the water, the effects of alcohol increase because of external stressors such as engine vibration, wave motion and glare from the sun. Operating a boat under the influence of alcohol or drugs is illegal in Tennessee. Across the state over the 2015 Memorial Day weekend, the TWRA Boating and Law Enforcement Division there were seven boating incidents, six which were property damage and one with injury. TWRA boating officers made 12 boating under the influence (BUI) arrests and five other arrests. For many residents, the Memorial Day weekend will be the first time to have the boat on the water this year. TWRA officials say taking a few minutes to check some of the boat components may be the key to having a nice, safe day. Performing a simple maintenance check before getting on the water may prevent problems. Check hoses to make sure they are in good shape. Make sure the lights work and carry extra fuses and bulbs. In addition, TWRA urges all boaters to remember the basics: (Con t on p. 26) www.bucksnbass.net Summer Boating Season is Here Enjoy Tennessee Waters Practice Safety First Always Use PFDs! NOW!
