Northeastern School District March 29, 2018 The Harlem Wizards spent the day at Northeastern School District presenting to our students on Wednesday, March 28. They spoke during lunches and held school wide assemblies, and concluded their evening at the high school with a basketball game full of tricks and a lot of laughs! The Wizards had to face a very strong Bobcat team, made up of current and former NESD Basketball players and staff members from across the district. All money raised from the event is being donated towards this year's Mini-THON goal to benefit Four Diamonds!
This week, Shallow Brook awarded their SUPER students for the 3rd marking period! SUPER stands for "Students Uniquely Portraying Excellent Responsibility". Students and staff had a fun time together celebrating all the hard work and perseverance it took to win the awards. Congratulations to Shallow Brook's SUPER students! As part of Conewago's Celebration of Reading HEROES theme, we read books over the past couple of months about Community Heroes! Each grade level chose a different hero to thank. The Kindergarten students chose our community fire fighters! They collected a lot of goods for their fire house; drinks, snacks, puzzle books, homemade cookies, coffee, and more!
Fourth Grade students at Shallow Brook Intermediate school recently enjoyed a visit from puppy trainers Rebecca Geesey and Valerie Hobbs from The Seeing Eye Organization. This proved to be a great introduction to our story in reading entitled The Right Dog for the Job: Ira's Path from Service Dog to Guide Dog. The students learned about the training puppies go through in order to become a seeing eye dog for someone with a vision impairment. In the end, they all got to enjoy puppy snuggles from Gretchen and Truffles! March 26th, 2018 was Epilepsy Awareness Day and a day to wear purple for all of the special warriors who battle epilepsy on a daily basis. On Tuesday, March 27th, a few of our Spring Forge students and teachers wore purple to honor these warriors. Mrs. Boop's class and Mrs. Jones' class wore their purple outfits for a special sixth grade student, Kyra Wills, who fights epilepsy every day. Ms. Fahs s former student, Chase Rudisill, eighth grader at NMS, delivers a hot coffee to Ms. Fahs s room every clerical day this school year. He greets her with a smile and they chat about the marking period that they both conquered! Moments like this make Ms. Fahs proud to be a BOBCAT!
