Welcome to VOL. 15 2017-18 of "SPIRIT WEEKLY" Spirit Weekly presented by Yeo & Yeo CPAs & Business Consultants. Welcome to Spirit Weekly! THIS WEEK IN SPIRIT HOCKEY: On Thursday night, the Saginaw Spirit (22-17-3-0) traveled to Barrie for a meeting with the Central Division's Colts (25-15-2-1) in a weekday tilt at the Barrie Molson Centre. The home-ice Colts leapt out to an explosive first period featuring four unanswered goals, a total that briefly spelled Evan Cormier from the Spirit net. Cormier returned in the second period, though, and Blade Jenkins helped narrow the gap with a powerplay goal, his
15th tally of the season. Forward Ryan Stepien added a third period goal, but Barrie responded with two of their own. The Colts' dominant start, which included three goals from its top line, created a buffer that Barrie rode to an eventual 6-2 victory. Highlights Box Score On Friday night, the Saginaw Spirit (23-17-3-0) continued their road trip and traveled to Sudbury to face the Wolves (12-27-6-0). Friday's game marked the first of two meetings between the Spirit and Wolves. The Spirit entered the game with a few players being welcomed back to their hometown of Sudbury, including Damien Giroux and Cameron Lamour. Lamour made his 11th appearance starting in net this game. The Spirit took the lead early with a penalty shot goal from Mason Kohn in the first period. Cole Coksey would double the score 2-0 in the second period, but the lead proved to be short lived as Sudbury fired back with two goals in 13 seconds in the final minute. Giroux played a major role in the Spirit's final two goals by Grondin and Coskey to lead Saginaw to a 4-2 victory. Highlights Box Score
On Sunday afternoon, the Saginaw Spirit (23-17-4-0) traveled to North Bay for a game against the Battalion (20-19-5-1) for a road contest at The North Bay Memorial Gardens. In the first period, Danny Katic opened up the scoring with his 4th goal of the season and the only tally of the first frame. During the second stanza, the Battalion generated some momentum with two goals and a successful 5-on-3 penalty kill, but Saginaw's Jake Goldowski tied the game at 2-2 with 2:02 left in the period. The third period featured a Max Grondin goal as he crashed the net up close, which also doubled as his 2nd point of the night. Both squads posted three goals before regulation expired, but North Bay struck early in the extra frame when Adam McMaster scored on the rush, his 2nd goal of the day as the Battalion won 4-3.
