FISH BITES The Marlins continue a three-game set with the Brewers today at 4:10 p.m. EDT at Miller Park. Miami will send righthander Tom Koehler (1-2, 7.04) to the mound; he is 1-3 with a 10.13 ERA in six career appearances (five starts) against the Brewers. Milwaukee will hand the ball to right-hander Zach Davies (8-4, 4.96), who is 2-1 with a 3.71 ERA in three career starts against Miami. Miami is 0-1 on this 10-game, three-city road trip that will also see them visit St. Louis (July 3-6) and San Francisco (July 7-9) before the All-Star break. The Marlins are coming off a 5-5 homestand against Washington (2-1), the Cubs (2-2), and the Mets (1-2). LAST NIGHT VS. MILWAUKEE Miami surrendered a late lead to the Brewers in a 3-2 setback at Miller Park. The game was scoreless until the fifth inning, when Miami broke through with its two runs. J.T. Realmuto led off the frame with a single, stole second, and scored on a double by JT Riddle, who would score two batters later on a sac bunt by Dee Gordon. Stephen Vogt got the Brewers on the board in the bottom of the frame with a solo home run, and then gave Milwaukee a 3-2 lead in the seventh with his second homer of the game, a two-run shot off of David Phelps. Edinson Volquez got the start for Miami, allowing just one run on three hits and two walks over six innings, with four strikeouts. AGAINST THE BREWERS Miami has gone 6-3 over its last nine meetings with the Brewers, who lead the all-time series by a slim margin at 68-67 tie. The Fish are 29-36 all-time in Milwaukee, with a 26-30 record at Miller Park, where they have gone 4-3 since 2015. TRANSACTION Following last night's game, the Marlins optioned left-handed pitcher Justin Nicolino to Triple-A New Orleans and recalled right-handed pitcher Tom Koehler from NOLA. Koehler will make today's start for Miami. WELCOME BACK KOEHLER Tom Koehler, who was recalled from Triple-A New Orleans following last night's game, will make the start for Miami today, his first start for the Fish since May 16. Following a stint on the 10-day disabled list for right shoulder bursitis from May 17-June 14, Koehler was optioned to NOLA. In three starts with the Baby Cakes, he went 1-1 with a 1.15 ERA (15.2 ip/2 er), striking out at least seven batters in each outing (22 total) and holding opponents to a.113 (6x53) batting average. NOT SETTING THE TABLE The Marlins have gone 5-8 since June 17. Since that date, they have batted.290 with runners in scoring position, the third-best mark in the National League behind San Francisco (.322) and Atlanta (.299). However, the Fish have had the fewest at-bats with RISP in the NL over that same span, going 20x69. Philadelphia (78) has the next fewest at-bats with RISP, while Arizona leads the Senior Circuit with 134. Miami is tied with Colorado for 12th in the NL in runs scored (45) since June 17, and has had 10-plus at-bats with RISP just once in 13 games; in the 13 previous games (June 2-16), when the Club went 9-4, it had nine such games, with 132 at-bats overall and 75 runs scored. QUALITY OVER QUANTITY Marcell Ozuna is batting just.255 in 14 career games at Miller Park, with 13 hits in 51 at-bats. However, eight of those 13 hits have gone for extra-bases, including seven home runs. According to Stats LLC, he has an at-bat/home run rate of 7.29 at Miller Park, the third-best mark (min. 50 plate appearances) in the venue's history, behind only Wily Mo Pena (6.00) and Shawn Green (6.91). Ozuna's power surge in Milwaukee is highlighted by a streak of four straight games with a homer from September 8-11, 2014. At the time he was just the seventh Marlin to homer in four consecutive games, tying the club record; Justin Bour has since added his name to that list, doing so from June 30-July 3, 2015. POWERFUL MATCH-UPS Giancarlo Stanton hit his 21st home run of the season Thursday night in Miami, the 229th homer of his career. In Cincinnati, Ryan Braun hit his ninth homer of the season, the 294th of his career. Entering this series, Braun has the second-most career home runs among active National League outfielders, behind Curtis Granderson (305). Stanton ranks fifth on that list, behind Jay Bruce, who is third at 261, and Matt Kemp (252). The power-hitting theme is also present behind the plate this series. Among National League catchers this season, Milwaukee backstop Manny Pina ranks fourth in slugging percentage (.475), while Miami catcher J.T. Realmuto ranks fifth (.462). Buster Posey (.503), Travis d'arnaud (.486), and Tyler Flowers (.479) top that list. - Stats LLC BRIGHTER DAYS The Marlins were just 8-20 in Milwaukee from 2011-2014, but have bounced back with an 8-5 record since the start of 2015. In that time, the clubs have taken different approaches to their victories, as Miami has scratched out its eight wins by an average margin of 2.6 runs per game, while the Brewers' five wins have come by a margin of 5.4 runs. Milwaukee has out-scored the Marlins at Miller Park since 2015 by a count of 69-63. - Stats LLC JULY FIREWORKS After closing out June with three straight losses, July is a welcome arrival for the Fish. Miami went 16-10 in July last season, tied with 2010 for the third-best mark in Club history, behind a 17-7 record in 2003 and a 17-10 record in 2011. Miami has a.486 winning percentage (305-322) all-time in July, its best winning percentage of any month, ahead of June (.483/324-347), and it's.262 batting average in July is also its best of any month, ahead of a.260 mark in September.
