What is Color Guard? Color guard is the visual effect part of the band. We use equipment such as flags, sabres, rifles, and swing flags. Usually color guard will perform at football games with the marching band at halftime. Color guard also performs at competitions and is judged on how well they can perform together in time, without dropping equipment and marching and maneuvering. Auditions for Color Guard Auditions for color guard at Mount Dora High School are easy! We ll teach you the basics at the practice dates listed above. We will rate you on a scale of 1-10 on how well you paid attention to the techniques we previously taught you and hopefully you ll pass them with flying colors! What To Expect From the moment you walk in you will feel welcomed! Color guard is a place to make new friends and have fun. Practices are not going to be easy only because we want to push the team to victory and get superiors at competitions. We will not take anyone who is uncommitted and will just goof around, I don t want to waste my time and any other members time. You will also need to follow the rules and act in a professional manner at competitions and football games. We want other schools to remember us! If You Are Selected Color guard members are members of the band. All members must model leadership with the band and away from the band. The color guard functions as a visual complement to the MDHS band. Every member of the color guard must audition every year and perform at every event with the band. Required Practices All practices and performances are mandatory for membership in this group. The members of the MDHS color guard are responsible for all participation fees. Please let Mr. Innis or the color guard captain know about any practices you will miss due to vacations or from illnesses. Hope To See You We know that auditions can be nerve racking and scary, but you have no reason to be nervous or scared. You don t need prior experience to be on the team. We promise that you will absolutely love being a part of the guard! If you are still having doubts, just come to the first practice and see what we are all about!
