Check-in time and weigh-in is from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., Friday, September 8th, ONLY! Goats are not to be brought to the Fair prior to Friday at 10:00 a.m. There will be NO Thursday night check-in. 1. To comply with the ODA and the Scrapie Eradication Program: All goats must be ID ed (market, dairy, and pygmy). All goats must be identified with official USDA ear tag or tattoo. Refer to the Guideline Sheet as to what documentation to bring to the Fair for the Scrapie Program. 2. No bucks or males with testicular tissue for show or on the fairgrounds. 3. No goats with horns or scurs longer than 1/2 from the base will be permitted to exhibit at the Fair. 4. No spiked or pronged collars of any kind allowed on the fairgrounds. 5. One goat per class, per member, except Classes 19, & 48. 6. The age of a goat is determined as of September 1 of the current year for all goat classes. 7. All classes except wether and market classes are for does only, with the exception that wethers may be shown in showmanship classes. 8. Yearlings, which are in milk, will show in the production class. 9. Pet wethers are neutered male goats. They may show in Classes 25-31 or 50-54, 60-63 and showmanship. 10. No member may exhibit more than three goats. 11. Goat classes will be placed from 1 to 10. 12. Classes may be divided at the discretion of the committee. 13. Meat goats must weigh 50 pounds and not exceed 120 pounds to sell in Junior Fair Sale. Meat goats weighing less than 50 pounds or more than 120 pounds will not show or sell. They will be sold to a local market decided upon by the committee. Members will not show in showmanship or market classes. Market goats will leave the Fairgrounds immediately following the weigh-in. 14. Market Goats - Classes 32 and 33. All market goats must be tagged at June tag-in to be eligible. For tracking and loading purposes, all market goats will be housed together in one area. 15. All animals shown in Wayne County Junior Fair market classes must be sold at the Junior Fair Auction and MUST GO TO MARKET. MARKET GOAT CLASSES ARE TERMINAL CLASSES. Market Goats will be sold by head, not weight. 16. A 3% charge to Grand and Reserve Champions and a $10.00 charge per other head will be made to exhibitors to cover sale costs and advertising. 17. NOTE TO MEMBERS WITH MARKET LIVESTOCK: exhibitors selling their animal(s) at the Junior Fair Sale MUST send a Thank You note to the buyer(s). This Thank You note is to be delivered to the EXTENSION OFFICE BEGINNING THE MONDAY AFTER THE FAIR IN A STAMPED, SEALED AND ADDRESSED ENVELOPE, AND NO LATER THAN ONE WEEK AFTER THE SALE. Checks for the sale of market animals will be sent to members only after a Thank You note is presented to the Extension Office. 18. All goats must be checked/approved by the goat committee prior to being placed in their fair pens. Checkin is Friday, September 8th, from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Market Goats will be weighed in at Check-in. All goats must be in place by 10:00 p.m. on Friday, September 8, 2017. 19. Order for Goat Show on Saturday, starting at 8:00 a.m.: Showmanship (for both Dairy & Market), Milking Dairy, Dry Dairy, Boer Doe, Pet Wether, Specialty, then the Market Goat classes immediately following the Dairy show but not before 12:00 p.m., then the Utility Classes (which include Harness, Cart and Pack Goat classes) at the end of the show. 20. Pygmy goat classes are on Wednesday, September 13, 2017, starting at 8:00 a.m. 24
21. All Dairy Breeds Showmanship requires the exhibitors to wear all white attire. Boer, Meat Market and Pygmy Goat Showmanship requires exhibitors to be neatly dressed, but DOES NOT require all white attire. Exhibitors in the Junior Fair are not permitted to wear any type of commercial advertisement or names on their clothing while in the show ring. 22. No fitting in alleys. It is recommended that dairy and market goats come clipped to the fair. 23. There is a pen cleaning policy - refer to August member letter (The Link). Policy is also posted in the barn. 24. We suggest that all tack boxes are placed on the back of the pen. Tack boxes that are in the aisle must be in compliance with the State Fire Marshall Regulations. Section No. 558 MOTHER & DAUGHTER CLASSES (Includes all breeds except pygmy) Class 19 Mother Daughter Both animals in this class MUST be shown in another class (excluding Showmanship) by the same exhibitor. You must sign up for this class on your Jr. Fair Entry form. (Please note that no additional premium will be awared for participation in this class.) Section No. 559 BOER CLASSES Class 20 Class 21 Class 22 Class 23 Boer Doe - 0-6 Months Boer Doe - 7-12 Months Boer Doe - 13-24 Months Boer Doe - 25 Months and over Section No. 560 SPECIALTY CLASSES Class 24 Specialty Doe - (examples would be Angora and Kiko, not Boer or Dairy Breeds). Doe must be in member s care and posession by June 1 to show kids born after June 1. Section No. 561 UTILITY CLASSES Goats and exhibitors must participate in the utility classes progressively together. Example: 1st year Pet Wether, 2nd year Pack Goat Class I, 3rd year Pack Goat Class II, and so on same exhibitor, same goat. In order to be eligible for any utility class, the goat and child must first show together in class 25. Exhibitors will be given three (3) minutes to complete the course in all Utility Classes. Class 25 Class 26 Class 27 Class 28 Class 29 Class 30 Class 31 Pet Wether Wether born after January 1 of current year. Harness Wether Wether in harness but not hitched to cart. Member has to have trained the wether. This class is for second year wether projects who have shown in the pet wether class previously. Cart Class Wether in harness and cart. Member has to have trained the wether. This class is for third year wether projects and beyond who have shown the wether in classes 25 and 26 previously. Pack Goat Class I This class is for a member and a yearling wether who previously completed class 25 the prior year together. First year pack goat project goat must be halter broke and led with a lead on a halter through a short obstacle course. Pack Goat Class II This class is for two year old wethers. Wether and child must have previously completed class 28 together. Exhibitor will have pack on before entering the obstacle course. Pack will not have weights in it. Pack Goat Class III This class is for three year old wethers. Wether and child must have previously completed class 29 together. Exhibitor will have pack on before entering the obstacle course. Pack will have 20% of the goat s weight in weight in the pack. These goats MUST be weighed at check-in on Friday. Pack Goat Class IV This class is for four year and older wethers. Wether and child must have previously completed class 30 together. Exhibitor will have pack on before entering the obstacle course. Pack will have 25% of the goat s weight in weights in the pack. The exhibitor must NOT touch the goat while on course. These goats must be weighed at check-in on Friday. Section No. 562 MARKET CLASSES The market goat classes are TERMINAL SHOW classes. All market goats can be a wether or doe born after January 1 of current year. Market goats will be sold on Wednesday evening at the Junior Fair Auction and MUST GO TO SLAUGHTER. All Goats must be tattooed at June Tagging to be eligible. Only 1 market goat (either Class 32 OR 33) may be shown per member. Classes to be divided by weight. First place in each weight class will return for Champion Market Goat Drive where the top 5 overall goats will be placed. Market goats will be weighed Friday, September 8, 2017 at check-in from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Class 32 Class 33 Dairy Market Goat must be dairy breed wether. Dairy breed means both buck and doe are a dairy breed. (Examples: Alpine, Nubian etc.) Meat Market Goat wether must be a meat breed or meat crossbreed. (Examples: Boer, Boer Crossbreed, Spanish etc.) 26
PYGMY CLASSES Show will be Wednesday, September 13, 2017 starting at 8:00 a.m. All Pygmys must be dehorned. Show order will be showmanship, doe, wether, obstacle course. Section No. 563 PYGMY SHOWMANSHIP ENTRY IS REQUIRED FOR SHOWMANSHIP. USE REGULAR FAIR ENTRY, DUE IN JUNIOR FAIR OFFICE BY AUGUST 1. Exhibitors must show their own animal in showmanship. Tuesday, September 12 7:00 p.m. Carter Building Registration is from 6:15 6:45 p.m. on the day of the show. 1. Contest is open to any Wayne County resident age 5-9 as of January 1 and not a 4-H member. Cloverbuds may participate. 2. The participants must use a goat that is already entered at the Wayne County Fair for other exhibition, with the exception of market goats. 3. For the event, you may borrow a goat, however, this must be prearranged before registration. 4. Any unruly animal will not be allowed in the show ring. 5. Ringmen will be available to assist. Parents are asked to remain outside of the show ring. 6. This show will be judged based on the showmanship guidelines. 7.
