2017-18 Incoming Freshman at Chopticon High School

Freshman requirements for Athletics All athletes are required to have a current physical. It is encouraged to get a physical in the summer months. All physicals are good for one calendar year. All incoming Freshman get to tryout for a Fall Sport without GPA requirements. After the Fall season, you must have a GPA of 2.0 or better to play sports. All athletes are required to register on Familyid.com for all sports. After you register, you will go to Chopticon High School Athletics. Registration for each season will open on the following dates. Fall Opens July 1 until Aug 8 th at 4:00pm Winter Opens October 30 until November 14 at 4:00pm Spring Opens February 12 until February 28 at 4:00pm

Tryout dates The first day of Tryouts for each Season are below: Fall 2017 - August 9 Winter 2017 November 15 Spring 2018 March 1 Fall 2018- August 8 Winter 2018 November 15 Spring 2019 March 1 Fall 2019 August 14 Winter 2019 November 15 Spring 2020 February 29

Practice expectations Being tardy or absent from practices/games can affect: The level at which you participate (JV or Varsity) Whether you start or play any part of the game Continuing to be a member of the team Missing practice for work, vacations, another sports team, and driver s education are not excused absences. If your team has practices/games scheduled on the weekends and/or holidays, you are required to be there. They are unexcused absences. We expect athletes who are on the injury list to be at practice. They can still learn from practice.

Practice expectations Missing practice (excused or unexcused)during the week will result in lack of playing time. Football, Soccer, Field Hockey, Cheer, Basketball, and Lacrosse athletes will not start and will miss a minimum of one quarter of the next game. Baseball and Softball athletes will not start and will miss a minimum of the first two innings of the next game. Volleyball athletes will miss a minimum of the first set.

Practice expectations In other sports such as Cross Country, Indoor Track, Track & Field, and Tennis, you either start or you don t. If an athlete misses (3) three practices, they will miss their next contest. The only exception to these rules is if it would cause a team to forfeit due to lack of players. The Athletic Director can override the rule. Any player that has (5) five unexcused absences to a class or for the whole day should be removed from the team.

MEDICAL EXCUSES If you are injured, make sure you tell someone. No coach wants you out there if you are hurt. Players should make medical appointments so practices and games are not missed. If you are well enough to be at school, you are expected to be at practice. A doctor s note is required for extended days of absence if the reason you cannot participate is due to injury. If excluded from playing is indefinite by a doctor, you must provide a note from a doctor authorizing you to play again.

ISI AND SUSPENSIONS If an athlete receives In School Intervention (ISI) or a suspension from school, they are NOT allowed to go to practice or games. They are not allowed to be on school grounds after school. This procedure includes away games Some suspensions are also grounds for being removed from the team. It is the decision of the coach and administration regarding the dismissal.

PLAYING TIME Due to the competitive nature of high school sports, there are no guarantees for playing time at any level. Coaches will discuss playing time with the players- not the parents. If a player wants to discuss playing time with a coach, it is done before or after practice. Discussions will not be held during practices or games. 24 Hour meeting rule: If a parent/player wants to discuss any other issues with a coach, they must schedule it no less than 24 hours after a game. The time frame of 24 hours later lends itself to a discussion that is calm, rational, and respectful.
