FISH BITES The Marlins tonight continue their final road trip of the season with the second of three games at Arizona (8:10 p.m.). Miami will send rookie left-hander Dillon Peters (0-2, 5.40) to the mound to make his first career start against Arizona and just the fifth start of his career. The D-backs counter with right-hander Taijuan Walker (9-8, 3.45), who is making his first career start and appearance against the Fish. Miami is coming off a brief three-game homestand sweep of the Mets. After this weekend set in the desert the Club heads to Colorado (Sept. 25-27) before returning home to close out the 2017 Championship Season with four games against Atlanta (Sept. 28-Oct. 1). LAST NIGHT Miami came out on the losing end of a 13-11 slugfest against the Arizona Diamondbacks, a game that included 32 combined hits, with seven of those going for home runs. Marcell put the Marlins on the board in the opening frame with his 35th home run of the season, a two-run homer to right-center. Arizona was unfazed, plating three runs in the bottom of the first to take a 3-2 lead. The back-and-forth continued in the second, as the Fish pushed two more across the plate in the top half, but surrendered four in the bottom to find themselves in a three-run deficit. Those three runs were made up in the third, and the Marlins added solo tallies in both the fourth and fifth to take a 9-7 advantage heading into the sixth. However, Arizona struck for five runs in the sixth to take a 12-9 lead. For Miami, also homered in the fourth inning, marking his fourth multi-home run game of the season and fifth of his career. Dee, Christian and J.T. all had three-hit games, while Justin established a career high with his 24th home run in the third. Adam Conley started for Miami and allowed seven runs over 1.2 innings, and Dustin McGowan (8-2) was saddled with the loss. VS. THE DIAMONDBACKS Miami is 9-4 in the last 13 meeting in this series, with a 3-2 advantage this season. The D-backs lead the all-time series, 78-62, with a 42-25 advantage in the desert. A PAIR OF 4'S Marcell homered in the first and fourth frames last night, marking his fourth multi-home run game of the season and fifth of his career. It was the 16th multi-hr game by a Marlin this season, the second-most of any season in Marlins history. The 2008 Marlins tallied 17 two-homer games, led by Hanley Ramirez and Dan Uggla with four each. Giancarlo is the Franchise leader with 27, including a MLB-leading nine this season. THE CHASE COMES TO CHASE Since 2010, Giancarlo has connected for 76 home runs against National League West clubs, the fourthhighest of any player and the most of any player not on a NL West team. Matt Kemp leads with 96, while Paul Goldschmidt has 82 and Carlos Gonzalez 81. is averaging one HR every 10.21 at-bats against NL West opponents, the second-best ratio of any player in MLB (min. 200 AB), behind Edwin Encarnacion (10.20). However, has only connected for six home runs in 21 games at Chase Field, the lowest total of any NL West stadium he has played in. AGE IS NOTHING BUT A NUMBER With one more hit, Ichiro will become the sixth player in Major League history (14th time) to record 50+ hits at age 43-or-older. Cap Anson did it three times (1895-97), Honus Wagner in 1917, Pete Rose three times (1984-86), Tony Perez twice (1985-86) and Julio Franco four times (2002-05). - Stats LLC FLASH, BANG Dee tallied three hits in last night's game, upping his batting average to a season-high.310. Since May 19, has hit.333 (151x454) with 14 doubles, six triples, two home runs and 26 RBI. He leads MLB in hits over that span, while his average ranks second to Jose Altuve (.359). On the season, is tied with Marcell and Ender Inciarte for third in MLB with 56 multi-hit games, behind Charlie Blackmon (64) and Altuve (57). Of his 56 multihit efforts, 21 have been three-hit affairs, second-most in MLB behind Altuve (22). HOW THE WEST WAS WON Miami has gone 17-10 (.630) against NL West opponents this season, with five games to play. It would be the Marlins' second-best record against the division in Franchise history, behind a 19-11 (.633) mark in 1994. The Fish are looking to build upon a 20-12 record (.625) against the West last season, which currently ranks as the second-best mark. - Stats LLC SWEET SPOT Giancarlo hit his 56th home run of the season on Wednesday vs. the Mets, his 44th in the two-spot in the lineup. He is now two behind Eddie Mathews (46 in 1959) for the MLB record out of the two-spot. The Marlins have already set the team record for such homers, with 50, surpassing Mathews' 1959 Milwaukee Braves, who had 47. LIKE HE NEVER LEFT Justin has had a seamless return to the lineup since missing 43 games from July 25-September 7 with a strained right oblique. In 12 games since returning, is batting.341 (15x44) with two doubles, three home runs, and 11 RBI, while reaching base at a.408 clip and slugging.610, for a 1.018 OPS. He is riding a seven-game hitting streak, during which he is batting.393 (11x28) with two doubles, three homers and 10 RBI. has just a.188 (3x16) career average in a small sampling at Chase Field, but did come off the bench for a pinch-hit grand slam here last season, in an 8-6 win on June 10. It was the sixth and most-recent pinch grand slam in Club history. On September 6, 2006, Anibal Sanchez, making just his 13th career start, threw the fourth no-hitter in Marlins history in a 2-0 win over Arizona at Sun Life Stadium. It was the 233rd no-hitter in Major League history (127th in NL), the 19th by a rookie, and the second by a Venezuelan pitcher. On June 3 this season, Edinson Volquez tossed the sixth no-hitter in Marlins history. It was the 294th in Major League history (150th in NL) and the seventh by a Dominican pitcher. Giancarlo has 13 home runs and 36 RBI against Arizona since the start of 2010.
