2017-2018 AFTER SCHOOL CLUBS QUARTER 3 January 4, 2017 Dear Parents and Guardians: We are excited to announce that beginning Monday, January 22, 2018, Franklin Academy will begin the after school club program for the third quarter, which will be available to students in grades K-8. Please note the following guidelines regarding club registration: Club registration will take place online at Elementary Club Registration for students in grades K-5 and Middle School Club Registration for students in grades 6-8. Click on the hyperlinks to register. Registration for quarter 3 clubs will begin at 8:00 AM on Tuesday, January 9 th and will end at 10:00 PM on Tuesday, January 16 th. Once the registration window has closed, the system will not permit additional enrollment. Club availability is on a first-come, first-served basis, and space is limited. Participants will receive a confirmation email once registered. The confirmation must be printed and submitted to the classroom teacher with payment by 9:00 AM on Wednesday, January 17 th. Payment must be attached to the confirmation email. Payments are accepted in the form of a check or money order only. No online payments. A SEPARATE CHECK or money order MUST be submitted for each club and each child. The club name and child s name MUST be written in the memo line of each check or money order. Funds are not transferrable. Club changes are not permitted after Monday, January 22 nd. There are no refunds after Monday, January 22 nd. Siblings not enrolled in a club may not wait at school for the club to end. They must be picked up at their regular dismissal time or late pick-up fees will be assessed. There are no clubs on early release days or school holidays. Participation in after school clubs is a privilege. Behavior expectations of students participating in an after school club remain the same as during the regular school day. Students who do not follow the policy will be dismissed from the club and their club fee is non-refundable. Club sponsors will contact the parents of those students who will be participating as well as those who will not be participating by Friday, January 18, 2018. Please be advised that parents and guardians will be responsible for picking up their child on the days their club meets, as transportation is not provided. Elementary parents must pick-up their child by 4:00 PM and middle school parents must pick-up their child by 5:00 PM. There will be a $1.00 per minute, per child, charge for late pick-up. Students will be picked up on the east (bus) side of the building for club pick-up. Students picked up late two (2) times from club will be removed from the club. No refund will be provided. We look forward to providing your child with a unique opportunity for enrichment!

ELEMENTARY CLUB DESCRIPTIONS QUARTER 3 BASKETBALL CLUB CLUB DESCRIPTION AND GOALS Basketball club teaches students the basic fundamentals of the game, while focusing on teamwork. The club does this through the use of team building activities. Learning to work as part of a team is a skill that is useful in all aspects of life. By the end of the club, students will understand that playing a sport is not just about the player who scores the most points; it is about the team as a whole. CHESS CLUB Join us for fun every Monday in the K-1 Chess Club. Have fun with your friends playing Chess competitions and variants (Mini Games, Blitz Chess, Bughouse). Enhance your Problem Solving, concentration, creativity, vision, and good sportsmanship. DRAMA CLUB The Drama Club is designed to promote drama education in our school and provide a variety of performances for students. Students will be given a great deal of opportunities to realize their talents. Moreover, the club will aim to teach students how to appreciate dramatic literature and its techniques, and also help students to attain better mastery of language. FRANKLIN VOICE JR. Do you love to sing? In this group students will be able to develop their voice, learn to work as a group and grow as a performer. With performances every quarter, the Franklin Voice will truly give students the opportunity to let their talent shine! Join Franklin Voice today! HIP HOP CLUB "Move and Groove" to today's most popular music and learn the latest hip hop steps. JUNIOR BULLDOG CHEERLEADERS Calling all Bulldog Cheerleaders! Cheerleading helps young girls build self-esteem and confidence with routine, endurance, and flexibility involvement. The Cheer club will consist of a T.E.A.M of girls who motivate and encourage each other to be better versions of themselves with FUN cheers, routines, and chants! Materials fees will be used towards team shirt and hair bows. GO BULLDOGS! KICKBALL CLUB Students will be taught the basic fundamentals of kickball. This club promotes teamwork and sportsmanship. Kickball is definitely the greatest game ever created for elementary students, so meet me on the field and let's have some fun!

KICKBALL / FOOTBALL / BASKETBALL CLUB LEGO CLUB In Kickball / Football / Basketball club teaches students the basic fundamentals of the game, while focusing on teamwork. The club does this through the use of team building activities. Learning to work as part of a team is a skill that is useful in all aspects of life. By the end of the club, students will understand that sports is not just about the player who scores the most homeruns, touchdowns, or points; it is about the team as a whole. Fun is number one. Don t tell the kids, but Legos are a great way to let children problem solve and lends a platform for innovative thinking. Past projects include: zip lines for mini figures, build a car- race a car, which boat floats, build a cartoon character, tallest tower, create a carnival, self-portraits, build a bridge, create a marble run, the perfect kid room, Lego kits, Star Wars, Lego Ninjago, Lego Friends.. just to name a few. No Legos are needed. We purchase the Legos with the club fees. LEGO ROBOTICS CLUB Build a Robot We utilize: Lego Mindstorms, Sphero, MakeBlok, Makey Makey as well as Lego Kit robots. Learning how to assemble and use is all fun. See you there! LITTLEST BULLDOG CHEERLEADERS Calling all Bulldog Cheerleaders! MYP CLUB DESCRIPTIONS QUARTER 3 AQUATIC WILDLIFE LAB CLUB DESCRIPTION AND GOALS Students will have an opportunity to analyze external and internal anatomy of an array of specimen from wetland and marine ecosystems. Additionally, students will practice skills in dissection and identification of different organisms incorporating use of dichotomous keys and proper lab tools. This club strives to instill in members an appreciation for the beauty and importance of the unique wildlife that inhabits our surroundings. CROCHET & KNITTING CLUB Students will learn how to crochet and knit to make scarfs, hats, blouses, etc. FIRST PRIORITY JAZZ BAND KICKBALL / FOOTBALL / BASKETBALL CLUB The club will provide members the opportunity to grow in their faith and to develop into dynamic leaders on campus and in the community. The purpose of the club is to increase self-esteem and moral foundation of self and peers. We will also build on being able to encourage friends to understand the importance of living in relationship with God. This is open to advanced band students and other students who can already read music, play scales, and have an instrument available. Beginning band students will be accepted only with approval from the band director. Students will learn about different styles of jazz, including traditional jazz, blues, Latin, and funk. Learn how to perform, and how to improvise solos. Please see Mr. Vazquez for more information! In Kickball / Football / Basketball club teaches students the basic fundamentals of the game, while focusing on teamwork. The club does this through the use of team building activities. MYP HIP HOP Learn the latest Hip Hop choreography to today's most popular music. POTTERY CLUB Students will have fun learning how to use the pottery wheel and hand build ceramic objects such as plates and vases.
