April, 2014 Select Performance TEAM will be holding open auditions for the 2014/2015 dance year for current and new members. This packet contains details for the competition team auditions only. Our competition groups are for dancers who want: Serious dance training The challenge and excitement of competition The opportunity for performance The enjoyment of building self-esteem and confidence in a competitive atmosphere. We offer competition classes in Ballet, Hip Hop, Jazz, Lyrical, Tap & Acrobatics. Attached is a packet of information that outlines the qualifications, requirement, commitments and fees. The day of Auditions Acceptance into these groups is based on scores from auditions. Dancers will audition for a panel of qualified judges scoring on the basic skill listed below and routines that will be taught on the day of auditions. Judges will be looking for technique, performance quality and the ability to memorize. Score Breakdown Basic skills worth 15 points (5=turns, 5=flexibility, 5=leaps) Routine worth 15 points Total 30 points per judge Auditions will be held at the RARA dance studio at 500 E Second Street. Dancers should wear sports bra, booty shorts and tights. Bring leotard if auditioning for ballet & sweat pants if auditioning for hip hop. Bring proper shoes for the groups you are auditioning for. Dancers may choose to wear any style of shoe for the Basic Skills portion. Auditions for: Competition Ballet, Jazz, Lyrical, Hip Hop, Tap & Acrobatics PART 1 - Basic Skills: All dancers participate in the basic skills portion of auditions. Junior Auditions (age 8-12 on 1/1/15) 1. Double Pirouette Teen Auditions (age 13+ on 1/1/15) 1. Dancers will learn the routine for the style of dance they are auditioning for. If you are not auditioning for all styles, you will have a short break during auditions. 2
Should I audition? Dancers must be 8 years old by January 1st, 2015 Dancers must be taking 3 or more dance classes during the 2013/14 (current) school year OR have teacher recommendation to audition for a competition group. Dancers who are not currently taking 3 or more classes are encouraged to audition for our performance group, Ensemble. Please see Ensemble Group audition packet for details. Dancers can not have conflicting activities that would hinder attendance in dance class, competition, convention or performance. COMPETITION GROUPS ATTENDANCE POLICY The attendance policy is established and will be enforced in the best interest of all members and team performance. Each of these groups meet once a week and has a strict attendance policy. Summer Attendance Policy 5 week summer term beginning 7/14 & Summer competition camp 9/2-9/10 Specific times for each group TBD based on audition results Dancers must attend a make-up class for ALL missed summer classes. Missed classes must be made up by attending a SPT teacher approved class, camp or workshop. School Year Attendance Policy 30 week school year term beginning mid-september 1. Dancers may not have more than seven (7) total absences during the school year in any SPT class, event, or performance. This rule applies to ALL required events: classes, extra rehearsals, recitals, dress rehearsals, extra performances, convention, competitions, etc. If this policy is broken, the dancer will lose their membership in that SPT group. 2. Missing a competition will result in two (2) absences. 3. Attendance at the last practice before any competition is mandatory. If this policy is broken, the dancer will lose the privilege of dancing at that event. Dancers who are pulled from an event due to attendance are still required to attend the entire event 4. Dancers must attend a make-up class for ALL missed technique classes. Missed technique classes should be made up within 30 days and can be made up in advance if possible. Tech workshops will be available to use as make-ups (additional fee for workshops) If at any point in the year a dancer has more than five (5) absences that are not made up, the dancer will lose their membership in all SPT groups. 5. Dancers must maintain appropriate dancer etiquette in all classes. If this policy is broken, the dancer will be dismissed from class and will be counted absent. 6. Dancers must follow appropriate dress code in all classes. If this policy is broken, the dancer will be dismissed from class and will be counted absent. 7. Parents must their teacher in writing prior to the day of the class/event, if they will be absent. Phone calls will only be accepted in the case of unexpected illness. If the teacher is not notified in advance, the absence will count as two (2). *The administration has the right to make exceptions to these attendance policies for extenuating circumstances at their discretion. 4
