Hello 4-H Families & Friends, As a youngster, I felt like time moved so slowly it seemed like forever from one birthday to the next. As I ve gotten older it seems that time moves more quickly, and I find it hard to believe that Spring is just around the corner. Before we know it the Fair will be here! As we move closer to that time I encourage each of you to read this newsletter and all 4-H information you receive as there are many important items and dates of which to take note. If you are an experienced 4-H family, reach out to a newer family to support and encourage them along the way. If at any time you have any questions, please contact your club leader or 4-H volunteer, our office, or me. 4-H is supposed to be a fun, learning experience and that is exactly the experience I want every youth in Bartholomew County to have! Market lambs will now be shown by breeds according to the following guidelines. Market lambs do not require purebred registration papers, but rather are shown by breed characteristics. An informational document containing breed characteristics, breed information, and pictures of each breed can be found on the Purdue Extension Bartholomew County website extension.purdue.edu/bartholomew. BREAKING NEWS 4-H PROJECT CHANGES and UPDATES!!! Not many of the 4-H projects have changed, but we wanted to be sure to update you on the ones that have. The 4-H Garden project got an update this year; new manuals will be available soon. Most of the project is the same as gardening doesn t change much. However, what vegetables and herbs that you can exhibit has expanded to meet todays gardening techniques and practices. The Sheep project has been changed to better help with the expanding interest in the project. 4-H Electric has some updates to the different levels and what can be exhibited. Be sure to look at, print out, and save a copy of the 2016 4-H Family Handbook. This is the information highway for 4-H! Page 2

4-H Volunteer News 4-H Volunteers Meetings The next 4-H Volunteers meeting is March 30th starting at 7 p.m. This meeting will be in the Community Building. The last meeting before fair is May 10th. At this meeting you will receive your parking passes, sign up for volunteer times during fair, and get project/livestock information. This meeting will be held in the Family Arts Building. Remember it is to your club s advantage for at least one volunteer to attend the meetings. Don t miss this important information! Fair Week Volunteering Fair week is just around the corner...no really it is only 4 months away give or take a day or two. Now is a good time to start thinking about volunteering in the Community Building and Little Hands on the Farm. Remember, if we don t have anyone to host the Community Building, no one will get to see all the great work our 4-H ers have done. Have a large club, split between the volunteer booths. Let s show Bartholomew County that you are the 4-H in the Bartholomew County 4-H Fair. If your 4-H club doesn t sign up for a spot to host or help in the Little Hands Building; you as a volunteer will not get a parking pass for fair. We have to have your help to make the most out of fair week for everyone. This is 4-H s time to give back to a community that gives so much! Remember if you don t come to the meetings, you miss all the information discussed. These meetings are so much more than just papers being passed out. E-Postcard Filing Reminder Instructions on how to file your e-postcard for the IRS were sent out via email. Don t forget this must be done and the confirmation email must be sent to the Extension Office by May 15th. ***As a 4-H Club or 4-H Affiliate, it is required that you file with the IRS annually in order to maintain your federal tax exempt status and to avoid possible significant financial penalties for failure to file.*** 4-H Volunteers Remember 4-H volunteers if you know of someone that is new to any of the 4-H Livestock Projects, please remind them to contact the Extension Office and be sure that we have their contact information. Financial Paperwork Is your 2015 clubs financial paperwork turned in? Financial paperwork is something none of us like to think about, but it is one of those things that is needed. If you don t have the necessary paperwork or have questions, contact the Extension Office today! Page 4
