It is thought that James left his family, for he died in Wayne County, Kentucky in December 1879, having been a resident of that county but two years. There were a James and a John Craft in Cumberland County (not far from Wayne) in the 1840 census. Were they our James and John? At this point we have no documentation. One family member relates that on one occasion, a son of James met his father on the road, and the son refused to acknowledge his father s presence.
