CHAPTER 1. FOR SAFE OPERATION CHAPTER 1. FOR SAFE OPERATION 1. HOW TO BE A SAFE OPERATOR 1.1. Before starting the front mower for the first time, read this and SF310, 370 operation manual thoroughly and carefully. Especially abide by the instructions for safe operation. If you do not, it may result in bodily injuries. 1.. Pay attention to the caution labels on the front mower and mower deck and observe the instructions they give to avoid physical injuries Be sure to use necessary protective devices such as headgear, safety glasses, safety shoes, ear plugs, gloves, etc If you have consumed intoxicating beverages, are drowsy from medication, ill, or tired, never operate the front mower When operating, adjusting, or servicing the front mower, always wear substantial shoes and long trousers. Avoid wearing long loose clothes, accessories or letting long hair hang loose, which could be caught in rotating parts or on projections When you let someone else operate the front mower, instruct this person how to operate the front mower and also advise the reading of this manual. Never lend the mower to anyone who cannot understand the contents of this manual and safety labels. Operation of the front mower by a person unfamiliar with the front mower may lead to an unexpected accidents Never permit the following persons to operate the front mower: - Persons not properly trained to operate the front mower - Persons who cannot understand the instructions mentioned in this operation manual and on the caution labels - Pregnant women - Children Local regulations may restrict the age of the operator Inspect the mower deck periodically. If not, this may not only shorten the mower deck service life but also make safe and efficient operation impossible. 3

SSM60, 7. BEFORE STARTING THE FRONT MOWER.1. Set up an operation plan with sufficient time allowance. A tight plan may result in unexpected accidents. Especially when operating the front mower under extremely hot, cold, or humid circumstances, set up an operation schedule or method which will ensure operational safety... Thoroughly inspect the area where the front mower is to be used and remove all stones, sticks, wires, and other foreign objects. Otherwise, they will be hit by the mower blades, which may lead to serious accidents..3. The front mower is equipped with various safety systems. All safety shields, guards, and covers should always be in position and functioning properly..4. Become familiar with the operation, particularly, the stopping of the front mower. You should be skilful enough to be able to stop the front mower at will..5. Keep in mind that the operator or user is responsible for the accidents or hazards caused by the front mower to other people or their property..6. Especially before starting the mower, be sure to perform advised pre-operation inspections especially inspect visually to see that the blade and blade tightening nuts are not worn, damaged or loose. Replace worn or damaged blade and nuts as an assembly to preserve blade balance. Otherwise, poor braking or scattered broken blades may result, which is very dangerous. 3. OPERATION OF THE FRONT MOWER 3.1. During operation, never allow anyone, especially children, and animals to be in the vicinity of the front mower, especially near the discharge of the mower deck. 3.. When you are working with co-workers, be sure to alert them by signalling before you take a new action Be sure to mow only in daylight. Mowing in the dark may cause unexpected accidents. 4

CHAPTER 1. FOR SAFE OPERATION 3.4. Never operate the front mower in terrain where there are ditches, holes, or steps easy to collapse. In such a place, the front mower could turn over or fall Always pay attention in front of the front mower to avoid obstacles such as corner stones, stubs, sprinkler heads, etc. When there is an obstacle that cannot be removed, provide a marker flag as a warning to keep away from it when mowing. When approaching the obstacle, slow down the front mower sufficiently to avoid it Never attempt to do the mowing operation without the discharge cover in place or with the cover left open Never attempt to operate without the drive shaft cover in place Adjust the cutting height with the gauge wheels in accordance with the condition of the ground surface at the working site. Mowing on rough ground with low cutting height may cause the blades to hit soil or stones, which is very dangerous After striking a foreign object, stop the engine and inspect the front mower and the mower deck for damage and be sure to make repairs before mowing again Be sure to keep the grass discharging part clean. A clogged discharging part may cause the discharge cover to open, resulting in scattering of grass and stones, which is very dangerous Before moving the front mower to another place, be sure to stop the mower blades and lift up the mower deck. Otherwise, they may hit stones and scatter them around, which is very dangerous When driving over a levee or step, stop the mower blades, lift up the mower deck, and move the front mower straight to the levee and make it climb over slowly. Avoid climbing over a levee too high, or the front mower may fall sideways or turn over Before stopping the engine, be sure to lower the mower deck onto the ground, apply the parking brakes, shift the range shift lever in neutral and turn the PTO switch to the OFF position Before leaving the front mower, stop the engine, lower the mower deck onto the ground, draw the engine key, apply the parking brakes, and chock the wheels. The front mower should be parked in a place which is flat and spacious, and has hard surface in order to avoid unexpected moving of the front mower. 5

SSM60, 7 4. OPERATION ON A SLOPE We cannot recommend the front mower with this mower deck be operated on a slope, but advise you to use a machine designed for slope operation. On a slope, various elements of operation such as slope angles, ground conditions, way of operation, grass conditions, etc. may lead to slipping, or over-turning, which may result in bodily injury. If the front mower has to be used on a slope, remember there is no such thing as a "safe" slope. Never use it on a slope of more than "10". Even if using it on a slope of less than "10", be sure to abide by the following instructions. A slope angle of 10is specified with the front mowers equipped with the attachments mentioned respectively. - The front mower is not equipped with any attachments or a cabin. - The front mower is equipped with a standard mower deck. When your front mower is equipped with an implement other than standard, such as a collector, a cabin, etc., never fail to ask your dealers about machine balance. Always follow their advice Be sure to wear a helmet during operation. 4.. Be sure to shift the 4WD lever to the 4WD position Operate at sufficiently low speeds When turning, be sure to slow down sufficiently Avoid sudden starting and stopping Operate the front mower up and down across the contour lines of the hill. Never operate along the contour lines Never perform mowing operation on wet grass Never use the cruise control during mowing operation Never park the front mower on a slope Never shift the range shift lever to the neutral position if the engine stalls Never change the range shift lever during mowing operation Pay attention to other possible causes of danger which could lead to overturning, etc. 6

CHAPTER 1. FOR SAFE OPERATION 5. MOUNTING AND DISMOUNTING OF THE MOWER DRIVE SHAFT The mower gear box is driven through a drive shaft with universal joints from the front mower. When connecting or disconnecting the shaft, follow the next instructions Lower the mower deck onto the gournd, stop the engine, draw the engine key, and apply the parking brakes before mounting or dismounting the drive shaft. 5.. Turn the PTO switch to the OFF position (N) Make sure that the PTO shaft and mower blades stop completely The drive shaft should be mounted or dismounted at the front mower side. Never leave the shaft connected only at the front mower side. If the PTO shaft be driven unexpectedly, the shaft will be swung around and damage the front mower or cause serious accidents. 6. INSPECTION AND MAINTENANCE 6.1. Never start the engine in a closed place. Exhaust fumes contain poisonous carbon monoxide, so sufficient ventilation should be provided when starting the engine indoors. 6.. Be sure to wear safety glasses and gloves when servicing the front mower A first aid kit and a fire extinguisher should be kept in a place always in instant access When servicing the front mower or mounting or dismounting the mower deck, place the front mower on level, hard ground Service the front mower in a place sufficiently illuminated, or darkness may cause unexpected accidents When servicing the front mower, use proper tools. Using makeshift tools may lead to injuries or poor service, which may result in unexpected accidents during operation When servicing the front mower or mounting or dismounting the mower deck, stop the engine and remove the engine key and apply the parking brakes Before servicing the front mower, be sure to turn the PTO switch to the OFF position(n) and make sure that the mower blades have stopped completely. Rotating blades may casue serious accidents. 7

SSM60, When raising up the mower deck for service, raise up it fully and apply the lift lock of hydraulic cylinder to avoid lowering When servicing the mower blades, pay sufficient care so your hands or fingers are not cut by them. As the three blades are driven by one belt, turning one blade will cause the other blades to turn Never step on the mower deck, or the mower deck may be damaged or deformed, which may lead to breakdown or accidents Be sure to reinstall the removed parts in place. Never attempt to start the engine with any parts removed Never attempt unauthorized modification of the front mower as this could be very hazardous. Damaged or worn parts should be replaced with ISEKI genuine spare parts. Unauthorized parts may cause breakdown of the front mower, accidents, and ISEKI warranty to expire. Parts code of blade Punched ID SSM B I 8654 C SSM A I 8655 C Keep all nuts, blots and screws tight to be sure that the equipment is in safe working condition. 7. BEFORE STORING THE FRONT MOWER 7.1. 23 SSM60, 7 g. Turn the key switch to the STOP ($) position to stop the engine. IMPORTANT: Never attempt to stop the engine abruptly when it is running at high speeds. Be sure to let the engine idle for about 5 minutes after long operation and then stop the engine. Abrupt engine stopping may lead to overheating causing seizure. h. Remove the starter key and cap the key hole without fail. CAUTION: When you leave the front mower, be sure to stop the engine and remove the starter key to prevent the front mower from being started unexpectedly by children or unauthorized people. IMPORTANT:Be sure to cap the key hole after having removed the starter key. Otherwise, water or dust may enter into the switch, which may cause trouble. 7. EFFICIENT MOWING IMPORTANT: Be sure to mow at full throttle (r). Choose an adequate travelling speed in accordance with the height or other conditions of grass to be cut. When the screens for the air-intake openings and radiator are clogged with dust, clean them at once. Never go on operating with clogged screens. Mowing is desirable when the grass is dew-free: in the afternoon or late afternoon, thus preventing the mower from heavy clogging. Always keep the mower deck clean. Check the blade ends for damage. Repeated mowing is recommended before the grass grows to high. Cutting grass too closely may damage the grass. To maintain a green lawn, never mow more than onethird off the height of the grass in one mowing. A slower travelling speed will result in improved mowing. Avoid selecting such a travelling speed that causes the front mower to bounce. Short, fast turns will damage turf. Slow down sufficiently when turning. Frequent sharpening of the mower blades results in beautiful finishment and less load on equipment, which leads to economical operation.

CHAPTER 7. MOWER OPERATION a. Mowing a large area i. Travel clockwise in spirals two or three times towards the center. ii. Then continue travelling counterclockwise to the end. In this way, scattering of cut grass onto adjacent passes and mower clogging are prevented and even mowing is achieved. When mowing irregular-shaped land, divide it roughly into square areas and apply the same method as above. b. For mowing tall grass FIG i. Mow grass twice. First, mow the grass to a height to make it low enough for the next finishing pass. Then finish to the desired grass height. The second travelling pass should be shifted side ways by 0 cm (8 in.) or so, or travel perpendicular to the first passes, which will result in a beautiful even finish. ii. When trying to finish in one pass, select a sufficiently slow travelling speed. It may also be required to set the cutting width to half or one-third of that for normal operation. c. For mowing highly moist grass or on wet ground i. If turf damage by the tires could result, wait until the grass and land have dried sufficiently. ii. Wet grass requires a higher grass cutting height setting than when mowing dry grass, as the cutting height is often lower than expected during operation. iii. Select a sufficiently slow travelling speed and avoid sudden starts, turns, and stops. If not, the turf may be damaged. d. For mowing dry grass or dead grass i. Advance should be in a direction where the dust does not hit the operator by taking into consideration of the direction of the wind. ii. When the air-intake screens are clogged, clean them at once. IMPORTANT: When operating the front mower in dusty circumstances, keep on paying attention to the coolant temperature gauge. Never continue operating when screens are clogged, or engine breakdown may result. 3

SSM60, 7 CHAPTER 8. MAINTENANCE CAUTION: When servicing the mower deck: Place it on level, hard ground. Stop the engine and remove the starter key. Apply the parking brake securely. Shift the lift lever to down position (D) to lower the mower to the ground. Turn the PTO switch to the OFF position (N). Shift the transmission range shift lever to the Neutral position(n). With these items in mind, confirm the safety conditions for maintenance operation without fail ahead of time. 1. BEVEL GEAR CASE OIL Inspection of oil level IMPORTANT: Check the oil level after every 50 hours of operation. a. Remove the level plug,1, located on the left side wall of the gear case,3. b. Check to see if a small amount of oil overflows through the plug hole. If so, the level is normal. If not, replenish with gear oil SAE80 through the plug hole using an oil pitcher or the like. IMPORTANT: Before replacing the level plug, be sure to wrap the threads with sealing tape without fail, or oil may leak through the plug. Replacement of oil FIG. 8-1 (1) Level plug (3) Gear case () Drain plug IMPORTANT: Replace oil after the initial 50 hours of operation and then after every 00 hours of operation. a. Remove all belt covers (LH, middle and RH) b. Loosen the lock nut for the tension adjustment rod,4, and remove the tension spring. c. Remove the gear case mount,5, by removing the four bolts,6. d. IMPORTANT: All oil spilt on the gear case mount should be wiped off completely with cloth. If it is not, the belt may be smeared with oil and become slippery. g. Tighten the bolts of the gear case mount. FIG. 8-3 h. Make sure that the belt runs around the pulleys and it is completely seated in the belt ways of each pulley. Then give proper tension to the tension spring with the tension adjustment rod. i. Re-install the belt covers.. BELT Inspection of belt tension FIG. 8-4 (1) Tension spring A: Inter-coil clearance B: Total length a. Check if belt is tensioned properly. When its tension is correct, clearance between coils of tension spring,1, should be mm ( in.),A, or total length of tension spring when installed should be mm ( in.),B. b. If the measured spring length deviates from the specified value, correct the length by loosening the tension rod lock nut,, and turning the tension adjustment rod,3. Inspection of belt a. Remove the belt covers (LH, middle and RH),4-6, installed on the mower deck. b. Check the belt for damage and dirt.if it is smeared with oil or dirt, or wet with water, wipe it clean with a dry cloth. When damaged, install a new pair of belts. 27 SSM60, 7 Replacement of belt a. Remove all belt covers from the mower deck. b. Loosen lock nut of tension adjustment rod and remove tension spring. c. Remove the upper belt firstly and then the lower belt and install new belts. IMPORTANT: The upper and lower belts make a pair, so the two belts should be replaced at the same time. if not, difference of the belt tension will result, which will lead to power loss. Be sure to install the belt as illustrated. An improperly installed belt will not work as expected but also may result in the belt breaking right away. Be sure to use the following ISEKI s genuin belts: FIG. 8-7 SSM60 SSM7 Size Belt (VB15) Belt (VB146) Parts code d. Make sure belt is seated properly in groove of each pulley. Apply tension to belt by adjusting belt tension adjustment rod to proper tension. IMPORTANT: Tighten lock nut of tension adjustment rod securely to prevent loss of tension. e. Re-install all the belt covers. 3. BLADES Inspection of blades a. Start the engine and shift the lift lever to the UP ( ) position to raise the mower deck to the highest position and stop the engine. b. Apply the lift lock,1. CAUTION: Be sure to apply the lift lock for hydraulic cylinder before servicing. c. Check the mower blades for deformation and damage. IMPORTANT: If the blade ends have become round due to wear, enlarged clearance between blades leave uncut grass behind. The blade should be checked timely and worn ones should be replaced immediately. Low cutting height or the operation just after soil has been applied will wear blades rapidly. The blades should be checked more frequently. Released FIG. 8-8 a. New Blade b. Blade with rounded edge c. Exessively worm blades are very dangerous. So replace such blades with new ones at once. FIG. 8-9 Locked (1) Lift lock (3) Hydraulic cylinder () Lift link 6

CHAPTER 8. MAINTENANCE Replacement of blades CAUTION: As blade edges are very harp, be sure to wear gloves to avoid being cut. a. Start the engine and shift the lift lever to the UP ( ) position to raise the mower deckt to the hightest position. Then stop the engine. b. Stop the engine and apply the lift lock. i. Swing the mower deck in direction "A" by holding the center part. CAUTION: When swinging down the mower deck, take care to prevent it from hitting you. Provide a chock between the front tire and the mower to prevent the mower deck from swinging. FIG (3) Pin (16X71) (4) Rear arm FIG. 8-1 (3) Pin (16X71) (6) R-clip (1) (5) Lift arm (7) Lift link 7

SSM60, 7 j. Lock the mower deck by inserting the stopper,8, like wooden chock. k. When the blades,9, are worn or deformed, they should be replaced with new ones. CAUTION: Be sure to wear gloves to avoid cuts by the blades. l. Chock a blade by inserting a piece of wood between the blade and mower deck. Loosen the blade tightening nut,10. Note: As the blades are tightened along with washers and shims, take care not to lose them when the blades are disassembled. m. Install a new blade, insert the washer,13, and tighten blade nuts temporarily to determine the height difference between blades. If more than mm (0.08 inch), correct with adjusting shims,1. The clearance should be measured in all cases: original position and the position with the blades respectively turned by 180 degrees. Excessive difference in blade positioning will result in poor mowing finish. IMPORTANT: Be sure to use the following ISEKI s genuin blades. Parts code of blade Punched ID SSM60 SSM B A I 8654 C I 8655 C NOTE: When sharpening blade edges, both ends should be done in same manner or blade becomes unbalanced. Pass a rod through blade center hole and check to see if blade is balanced properly. If balabce is improper, correct it. Unbalansed blades will cause excessive vibration. n. 30 CHAPTER 8. MAINTENANCE q. While lifting up the mower deck in the center turn back it to the original position. r. Release the lift lock for hydraulic cylinder. s. Shift the lift lever to the DOWN (D) position to lower the mower deck. CAUTION: Before operating the lift lever, be seated in the operator s seat and make sure of the safety conditions around the front mower. t. Connect the mower deck to the front mower properly, referring to the paragraph for "attaching and detaching the mower deck". 4. GAUGE WHEELS & ROLLERS As the gauge wheels,1, are installed on the front ends of the mower deck, they are more vulnerable to being hit and deformed by obstacles than any other part. When a wheel does not turn smoothly or is deformed, replace it with a new one immediately. Make sure that all rollers,-4, turn smoothly. CAUTION: Be sure to apply the lift lock for hydraulic cylinder before servicing. IMPORTANT: When wheels and rollers are hard to turn, disassemble and clean them. After re-assembly, be sure to apply grease to axle shafts for gauge wheels and rollers. 5. CLEANING OF MOWER DECK FIG a. Remove belt covers, and clear the grass and dust accumulated under the cover before operation, or shorter service life of the belts and damage to bearings and oil seals will be caused. (1) Gauge wheels (3) Rear roller () Front roller (4) Inside roller CAUTION: Be sure to replace the removed covers after cleaning. b. Each blade shaft end and tension pulley end are equipped with a grease fitting. Inject grease through these fittings periodically and make sure that each part rotates smoothly. c. After mowing, clear the underside of the mower deck and blades of accumulated grass and dirt. Especially after operation in wet grass, wash them without fail, or accumulated wet grass and dirt will cause performance deterioration. 9

SSM60, 7 6. ADJUSTMENT OF DISCHARGE COVER ANGLE The discharge cover is equipped with stoppers on the front and rear. The angle can be adjusted by the effective length of the stopper. The length of the stopper can be adjusted by being moved through the washer on the stopper side from the nut side. The discharge cover should be kept at a low angle as long as there is no inconvenience, as a discharge cover angled higher allows cut grass or pebbles to be ejected too far, which is very dangerous. Besides this will cause noisier operation. FIG (1) Mower deck (4) Washer () Stopper plate (5) Nut (3) Stopper (6) Discharge cover 30
