FAN FAVORITE: In his first two career starts, RHP Masahiro Tanaka recorded 8K on 4/4 at Toronto and 10K on 4/9 vs. Baltimore, to become the second Yankees pitcher (also Allen Russell in 1915) to fan at least eight batters in each of his first two Major League starts according to the Elias Sports Bureau. NOTHING FOR FREE: Prior to the walk allowed by Masahiro Tanaka to Matt Wieters on Wednesday vs. Baltimore, Yankees starting pitchers (Tanaka, Pineda, Sabathia, Kuroda, Nova) did not walk a batter over five consecutive starts from 4/4-8, combining to strike out 26 batters in 29.0IP according to the Elias Sports Bureau, it marks the longest such streak by Yankees starters since a six-game stretch from 9/5-10/02 (O. Hernandez, Wells, Mussina, Clemens, Pettitte, Weaver). Yankees starters have tallied just 5BB over their last eight starts since 4/4 at Toronto. THE UTILITY CLIPPER: Before being held hitless over the last two games vs. Boston, INF Yangervis Solarte hit safely in his first seven career starts, becoming the first Yankee to accomplish the feat since Hideki Matsui hit safely in his first seven career starts from 3/31-4/8/03 the last Yankee to have a longer such streak was Mike Heath from 6/28-7/23/78 (13 games) according to the Elias Sports Bureau.
