2 Baseball Queensland recently announced re-aligned pathways for junior representative baseball in Queensland for season 2015/2016. The changes do not impact Saturday club-based baseball. Those programs and opportunities remain largely as they were last season except what was known as Little League Majors is now U12 Div 1 and Junior League has been re-branded as U14. The changes allow Brisbane Metro the opportunity to promote and run a series of brand new competitions, which are open to all agequalifying players who are registered to play for All Stars, Carina Redsox, Pine Hills Lightning and Windsor Royals, regardless of what team, division or club they play for on Saturdays. The age-qualifications for these brand new competitions align with the Little League International age-qualifications and will be consistently applied by all regions in Queensland and throughout Australia. The new competitions are: Little League Majors; Junior League; and Senior League. The pathways which are available for players in each of these new competitions are included below. 3 Little League The info Eligible players must be: born between 1 May 2003 and 30 April 2005; registered to play with a Metro club. What is involved? 12 game round robin competition players must play at least 60% of games; Participation minimum - 6 defensive outs, 1 plate appearance games expected to be 75 minutes double headers will be played What about teams? teams will not play along club lines. Players will be drafted into evenly talented teams team numbers and numbers of teams will depend on player numbers When will games be held? these Saturday afternoons 31/10, 07/11, 14/11, 21/11, 28/11 one Sunday 22/11 Where will they play? game venues to be advised closer to the start of the competition all attempts will be made for games to be played at one venue every week What about training? players will train with their club teams. 6 FAQ Q: Can a child play outside their natural age group? No. Little League International does not recognise the PONAG system. Q: Can a player play in the age group (U16 and U18) state and national championship pathways as well as the Junior League and Senior League pathways? Yes. A play may play in both tournament streams. Q: What uniforms will be required? Players will play in club pants and club caps. Metro is currently determining the most suitable means of addressing playing tops. More information about this will be released shortly. Q: What will this new competition cost? We have endeavoured to keep the cost down. There may be a modest $15 fee. More information will be released shortly. Q: Who will be the coaches? Details will be announced closer to the start of the competition. Only those coaches who are involved in the competition are permitted to coach the Metro rep teams. All expressions of interest are welcome. Q: What bats can be used in these competitions? All of the new bat rules adopted by Baseball Queensland will apply. See the Baseball Queensland website for details. Q: What about pitching? Can a player who pitches on Saturday pitch in this competition? The Little League International Green Book rules will apply. These rules do allow a pitcher to pitch on consecutive days, but only under very strict conditions and with strict pitch limits. Q: Are there also restrictions on catching? We will, once again, be guided by the Little League International Green Book. Q: What about umpires and scorers? We will need plenty of volunteers. More details will be published shortly. We are actively considering adopting the same GameChanger scoring software and apps used by Baseball Australia at recent junior tournaments. Q: Where can I find more information?
