1 EM I Bramton Cycling Advisory Committee, subcommittee presentation (15 minutes) August 10, 2015 The goal of the subcommittee: To look into the possibility of applying for the MTO CyclingTraining Fund 2015 and 2016 Subcommittee: AlinaGrzejszczak, PatrickMcLeavey, Gaspard Ndayishimiye. 1. The subcommittee members contacted several organizations in Brampton and Peel Region to alertthem to the Fund and to see if any of them would be interested in putting up the proposal for the MTO fund. The list of people and organizations and the results of these contacts is attached. 2. General conclusions as to the application for the funding: a) the deadline for this application (September 4th, 205) is quite unfortunate because of the vacation season. b) there are three differentfunds to apply for; BCAC can apply for the cycling instructor training fund ($3000) as a community organization. c) Brampton or/and Peel Region community organizations are well positioned to apply for the other two types of funds, with BCAC members involvement. These organizations are informed about the funds already, either through our action or through other sources. 3. Details of the costs for cycling skills training for the BCAC members: a) the only widely recognized training for cycling instructors is done through the CANBIKE organization. b) CANBIKE Instructor training is offered by the Toronto Parks and Recs; it costs $ for the adult non-resident, and $206 for the older adult (over 60y.o.) non-resident. c) the prerequisite for the CANBIKE Instructor is to have CANBIKE 2 course passed. d) CANBIKE 2 costs $ for the adult non-resident, and $ for the older adult non-resident. It is also offered by Mississauga Parks and Recs this fall, it is cheaper than the Toronto course. e) no cycling trainings are offered by the Brampton Parks and Recs this fall. f) we can look into hiring CANBIKE licenced instructor to provide CANBIKE 2 training for the BCAC interested members to see if that would be cheaper and more convenient option. 4. It would be worthwhile to look into the possibility of forming a core group of people with cycling instructor licence/qualifications in Brampton. It would have to be a group dedicated to the long term involvement with the cycling education among children and youth. We would be qualified and licenced to train children and youth. Cycling Advisory Committee Date: AUMEt 2D( M5
2 5. The members of this subcommittee are willing to apply for the cycling instructor training for a group of interested members who would want to becomecycling instructors. 6. Thesubcommittee members are willing to get involved with other stakeholders to apply for the other two types of funds: the cycling skills training ($25000) and the cycling curriculum fund ($25 000). preapared by: Alina Grzejszczak
