Broader connections such as embracing the atawba iver throughout the ity, along and across utchman s reek, and ensuring that the owntown ore extends along ast harlotte and ast entral venues toward the river will allow the city to continue to thrive as a community. ount olly omprehensive Pedestrian Plan (01) verview his Plan combines past planning efforts with new research and analysis and includes public input. he result is a complete, up-to-date framework for moving forward with tangible pedestrian improvements. he ity is very committed to becoming pedestrian-friendly; however, current pedestrian conditions within ount olly do not adequately serve the needs of its residents. his Plan will provide guidance for enhancing conditions for pedestrians throughout the ity. Beyond physical improvements, this Plan also outlines policies and programs to help encourage people to walk more often, drive more safely, and to grow as a city with the needs of pedestrians taken into full consideration, particularly in areas identified by the Project teering ommittee, the public, and ity staff. elevant ecommendations Provide walking paths that connect schools, shopping areas, and key destinations with surrounding neighborhoods. Fill gaps in the existing sidewalk network by targeting sidewalk and intersection improvements to the following priority corridors including: ighway, oles rive, Beaty oad and Beatty rive, ighway and & rive, raig treet, atawba venue. Improve safety of ighway and its crossings between orth iver treet and ighland treet through the implementation of a road diet, sidewalk, cycle track, and an improved crossing at ighland treet. nhance pedestrian safety at key intersections and crossings, such as those at towe and Food ion.
