1 MAP 44 6,1 KM Tuskendammen - Oenkerk Follow the street. At the next intersection, go straight onto Klaas Douwesweg. Take the first forest path on the right, pass through cycle barriers. At the intersection, go diagonally right towards the hill. On top of the hill, turn right. Keep left at the next fork. Turn left and cross a stone bridge. At the intersection, turn right in the direction of the country estate De Klinze. At the end of the path, just before the country estate De Klinze, turn left. Just before the pastures, turn left and follow the forest path. At the end, turn right, this path turns into a brick road. Continue straight and follow the brick road and a bend to the left. At the bridge, go straight onto Van Sminiaweg (Turn right for a short side trip with a view of the bridge in Bartlehiem, see map insert). Follow the road through the village of Oudkerk and follow a left-hand bend, ignore side roads. At Y-569/1, go straight onto Van Sminiaweg. Follow the road with a right-hand bend. After the white house no. 28, Boskein, keep left, enter the forest at the sign Grikelân and Turkeije. Keep right at the fork. At the intersection, turn right and then go straight, ignore side paths. After the bicycle barriers at the intersection with a wide sandy path, turn right. Follow the path straight ahead, ignore side paths. At the end of the path, turn right and take the first brick path on the left (where you see the sign ingang leveranciers ). Turn directly right and go through the boom gate to enter the park. Take the first path on the right, turn left after the water. At the end of the path, turn right onto the gravel path. At the intersection, go straight. Cross the wooden bridge and in the middle of it, at the three-way fork, keep left then walk over the hill. After the descent, cross another bridge and then turn right. At the end of the path, turn left. Keep right at the bridge. At the fork, keep right, ignore side paths. At the end, turn right, then turn left and follow the bicycle path. Keep following the bicycle path, ignore side roads. About 100 m after a bus stop (hut), turn left and pass through a fence. After the fence, take the first path on the left, this path turns into a gravel path, follow the path and ignore side paths. Follow the path with a right-hand bend. At the end, turn left and cross the bridge. After the bridge, turn left. After the tennis court, take the first path on the right. Take the first path on the right again and cross the bridge. At the cycle barriers, the asphalt path turns into a forest path, keep right after the fence. At the end of the path, turn right and walk towads the exit of the forest, turn right onto the asphalt road. At the intersection, turn left and at the cycle route post no. 41, turn right onto Flokhernepaed. Turn right onto the bicycle path, at the end o fit, keep right and follow the small asphalt road until the end. At the end of the road, turn left onto Nieuwe Straatweg. After house no. 101 and the letter box 99, turn right and follow the gravel path. Just before the house, turn left, go through a swing gate and follow the unpaved path. After the next swing gate, go Estates Within a few kilometers you can walk on two beautiful estates: De Klinze in Aldtsjerk and Staniastate in Oentsjerk. Especially the route through the landscape garden of Sta-niastate offers beautiful vistas on water features, beautiful trees, bridges and slider paths. The mansion has served as a youth hostel for some time. Now it is a high-academy. Landgoed De Klinze is much more stately
2 MAP 44 6,1 KM Continuation Tuskendammen - Oenkerk straight and follow the unpaved path. At the end, turn right onto a brick road. At the roundabout, cross the road straight ahead. Then directly take the first street on the left onto Master Sannesstrjitte. After the gas distribution station and the fence, turn left onto a brick path, which turns into a paving stone path. At the end of the path, turn right and then keep right. At the end of the road, turn left. Take the second street on the right onto Singel. At the end of Singel, turn left. Take the first street on the right onto Eliza Posthumastraat. Follow the street with a left-hand bend. Take the first paving stone path on the left and follow the path between houses. After cycle barriers, go straight onto brick path. At the end of the brick path, turn right, follow the street until the end, then turn right. At the roundabout, cross the road straight ahead and follow Nieuwe Straatweg. After house no. 73, turn left onto a narrow path. Follow this path straight ahead, pass through two swing gates. After the second swing gate, turn right. At the end of the path, turn left. Take the first street on the right onto Flokhernepaed. Follow the street with a left-hand bend. Keep left and follow the gravel path. At the end of the bicycle path, keep left onto the brick road. At the end of this road, turn left. At the intersection, turn right onto Kaetsjemuoiwei. Take the first forest path on the left, then take the first path on the left again. At the cycle barriers, keep left onto the asphalt path. After the bridge at the end of the path, turn left and continue following the asphalt path. At the fork, keep left. At the end of the asphalt path, turn left. Cross the first bridge on the right. After the bridge, turn right and follow the path through the park. The unpaved path turns into an asphalt path. At the end of it, turn right. After the fence turn right and follow the bicycle path, ignore side roads. At the end of the bicycle path, after house no. 96, turn right and pass through the fence of the country estate Stania State. Take the first forest path on the left. At the three-way fork (with a tree standing in the middle), keep left. At the bridge, keep left. At the fork, keep right and then keep left, cross the bridge and walk up the hill. After the hill in the middle of the next bridge, keep right and follow the gravel path. At the intersection, go straight. Take the first path on the left (before the pond), then keep right and turn left at the end of the path. Turn left onto a brick road, afterwards turn right onto an asphalt road and take the first path on the left, ignore side paths. At the first intersection in the forest, turn left, pass cycle barriers, ignore side paths. After the fences at the intersection, go straight, pass twice a fence, ignore the street on the left. At the end of the forest path, turn right onto an asphalt road, at Y-8030/1, follow the road with a left-hand bend in the direction of Aldtsjerk. Where the road turns left, go straight onto Van Sminiaweg. At the second bus stop, follow the street to the right. Keep right at the bridge (dead-end road). (Turn right for a short side trip with a view of the bridge in Bartlehiem, see map insert). Follow the foot path straight ahead. Take the first path on the left, then take the first path on the right. Take the second narrow path ont the right, at the intersection, turn left and cross the stone bridge. After the bridge at the intersection, turn right, ignore side paths. Before the hill, take the second path on the left, ignore side paths. At the five-way fork, cross the road diagonally left and follow the avenue. At the end of the avenue, turn left onto the asphalt road. At the next intersection, go straight onto Wearbuorren. After 1,5 km at the intersection with the street called Tuskendammen, go straight onto Tuskenmarren
3 MAP 45 9,4 KM Oenkerk - Miedum (Dokkumer Ee) Follow Singel and a bend to the right. After a bend to the left, go straight and continue following Singel. Singel turns into a track, follow this one straight ahead. At the end of the track, turn left onto an asphalt road, this one turns into a brick road. Follow the brick road until the end. Cross the road straight ahead and then turn left and follow the bicycle path, Canterlandseweg. After the brick bridge, go straight and follow bicycle path. At the intersection, go straight onto Canterlandsewei. After the fixed bridge, turn right, follow the concrete path until the end, private land (Please note: always close the fences!). At the end of the path, turn left and cross the fixed bridge, follow the asphalt road. At the intersection with Eggedyk, go straight and follow the bicycle path. After 700 m you will pass a brick bridge. About 1 km after the brick bridge, take the first street on the right onto Gytsjerkerhoeke, brick road, ignore side roads. After the sign Gytsjerk and house no. 37, turn right onto a half-paved path. Follow the path straight ahead, path turns into asphalt path, Singel. Follow Singel and a bend to the right. At the end, turn left, still called Singel. Doutzen Kroes Gytsjerk is the birthplace of Doutzen Kroes, one of the most famous fashion models in the Netherlands and now also an actress. She played in the Dutch film Nova Zembla (2011) and had a modest role in the superhero film Wonder Woman (2017). Doutzen lives alternately in America and the Netherlands. She is an ambassador for the Praat mar Frysk campaign, which aims to stimulate the use of the Frisian language. 4 MAP 46 5,6 KM Miedum (Dokkumer Ee) - Leeuwarden, Vrouwenpoortsbrug At the end of the path, turn left and keep following the concrete path (Wynserbinnenpaed) through pastures, across several wooden bridges. At the end of the path after the last bridge, turn right onto Buorren (village of Lekkum). Take the first street ont the right onto Terp, follow the street and a bend to the left. At the end of the street, turn right. Turn right directly after the churchyard. Follow the street around the playground, then keep left onto the concrete bicycle path, Tsjerkelânspaed. Cross the bridge and keep following the concrete path until the end, Tsjerkelânspaed. Turn right and then directly turn left onto Oan é Dyk. Follow the street straight ahead into the village of Snakkerburen, ignore side paths. At the end of the street, turn left, then turn right and cross the water via Heechhout Bonkefear. After the bridge, go straight onto Fam. v.d. Weijstraat. At the end, keep right and follow the asphalt road to the right onto Krijn v.d. Helmstraat, continue straight. Where the street bends to the left, go straight ahead onto a bicycle path along the Dokkumer Ee. At the end of the bicycle path, at the roundabout, cross the road straight ahead and then go straight onto Goudenregenstraat. Take the first street on the right onto Oldegalileën. Take the second street on the right onto Peterseliewaltje. Halfway, turn left and continue on a concrete path through a play area. Take the first path on the right. Just before the Dokkumer Ee turn left and follow the path along the water, ignore side paths. Turn right and cross the white bridge. After the bridge, turn directly right onto Eebuurt. Follow the street and a left-hand bend along the water. Go Straight. At the bridge, go straight again and cross the road, then continue straight and follow the path along the water. Go straight and enter the Prinsentuin. Follow the asphalt path at the upper side of the park along the water, ignore side paths. At the end of the park, leave the Prinsentuin straight ahead onto Westerplantage. Just before the Oldenhove (leaning tower), turn left, and follow Westerplantage until you reach the roundabout and the Vrouwenpoortsbrug (bridge) (. De Trije Doarpen Snakkerburen almost seems to be incorporated in Leeuwarden. Together with the villages Mie-dum and Lekkum, it has formed one community for centuries. The three villages are also called De Trije Doarpen. Leeuwarden Leeuwarden, the Cultural Capital of Europe in 2018, is a real Oranjestad : the Stadhouderlijk Hof is the stately heart of the city. For centuries, Leeuwarden has been the residence of Nassau stadholders and the cradle of the Oranje Nas-sau royal family. The Frisian Nassaus are the ancestors of King of the Netherlands, Willem-Alexander. He underlined his connection with Leeuwarden by his participation on 26 February in the Elfstedentocht. To the railway station: Turn right and follow the street, Westerplantage. Turn right just before the theater De Harmonie. Follow the street along the water, Westerkade. As you follow the street and a bend to the left, keep the water on your right. Westerkade turns into Willemskade. At the fixed bridge, turn right and continue straight ahead onto Sophialaan until you reach the Leeuwarden railway station
5 MAP 46 5,6 KM Continuation Miedum (Dokkumer Ee) - Leeuwarden, Vrouwenpoortsbrug From the railway station: From the front side of the Leeuwarden railway station walk left towards an orange mailbox. Turn right and cross the road by using the zebra crossing. Continue straight towards the high office tower. (Among others the VVV-Leeuwarden tourist information is located in this building.) Pass through the pedestrian passage under the tower and cross the fixed bridge straight ahead. Turn left onto Willemskade. Follow the pier and a right-hand bend. Continue straight along the water past a building. Then go straight onto Westerplantage. This street leads you to a roundabout and the Vrouwenpoortsbrug (bridge). 138 At the roundabout, turn right onto Westerplantage. Follow this street until you reach the Oldenhove (leaning tower). Where the street bends to the right (at the Oldehove), turn left onto a brick path which turns into an asphalt bicycle path. Keep right, turn right at the fence. Keep left, then keep right and turn left just before a building. Follow this path to the right. After the harbour office, turn left towards the water. Just before the water, turn right onto a shell path and follow this path along the canal. At the end of the shell path, turn left onto the asphalt path. At the end of the asphalt path, at Kp4, cross the road straight ahead and continue straight onto Eebuurt. Turn left and cross the white bridge. After the bridge, turn left onto the brick path, keep left. At the end of the asphalt path, turn right onto a paving stone path. At the end, turn left onto (Oldegalileën). At the end, turn left onto Goudenregenstraat. At the end of this street, cross the road straight ahead and follow the bicycle path straight ahead. At the end of the bicycle path, go straight. Take the second street on the left onto Familie v.d. Weijstraat. Follow the street straight ahead and pass Kp35. Street turns into a paving stone path, cross the bridge straight ahead. Just before the water, turn right onto Oan e Dyk. Follow the brick road straight ahead through Snakkerburen. Brick road turns into an asphalt road, ignore side roads. Oan e Dyk turns into Measterpaed. Take the first concrete bicycle path on the left, onto Tsjerkelânspaad. After the bridge at the end of the concrete path, follow the street around a play area. Just before the village hall De Weeme, turn left. Turn right and then directly turn left onto Terp. Follow the street. At the end, turn left onto the red bicycle path. After a right-hand bend, turn left, follow the concrete bicycle path, Wynser Binnepaed, ignore all side paths. At the end of the concrete path, just before the fixed bridge and after a cattle grid, turn right and follow the concrete path (private land). (Please note: always close the fences!). 139
