1 CV for Nomination to British Cycling North West Region Board and National Councillor Fred Bamforth Address: 26 Debenham Road, Stretford, Manchester, M32 9DG Date of birth: 26 October 1966 Relevant Cycling Experience As a Rider I started riding a bike in my early twenties, and have raced on and off since I have been a member of the British Cycling Federation since that time. I competed at a high level nationally, gaining my first category licence (in old money). I was lucky enough to compete in Ireland on a fairly regular basis as part of Irish Heritage Cycling Club and rode the FBD Milk Ras in Ireland on a number of occasions. I also represented the Manchester Division at a number of events throughout the late 1990s. My focus changed in 1994 when I became one of the first people to ride at Manchester Velodrome. I rode the Manchester Regional Track League (firstly on Fridays, then on Tuesdays) and also competed in the Manchester Divisional Track Championships, where I won the scratch race in I was involved in the Jack Fletcher and Key 103 track competition), where I was a member of the Manchester team. I also won a silver medal in the World Masters Points Race in As a Volunteer My main focus is now centred on putting something back into the sport. I have been Road Race Secretary of Stretford Wheelers since 2014 and have been promoting road and circuit races for the Racing Chance Foundation since In 2016, I also organised the North West Regional Road Race Championships on behalf of the North West Region, which included a standalone women s championship for the first time. I also recognise that I have a lot of racing experience and I volunteer as a coach with the Racing Chance Foundation. I am a qualified level 3 coach (through the Association of British Cycling Coaches). Through my involvement with the Racing Chance Foundation, I have also been an active supporter of the development of the women s scene locally. I was elected onto the North West Regional Board in September 2016, which has enabled me to give something back to the sport which I have been involved with for 30 years and to help to shape the future of the sport in the North West as a Regional Board Member. At the same time, I was also elected as a National Councillor, and I have been able to represent the North West Region s views at both the National Council last November and more recently at the EGM in July. I believe that at both of these meetings, I was able to demonstrate that I have the requisite knowledge and experience to make decisions in the best interests of the North West Region when given discretion to vote on various matters concerning the sport.
2 Heather Bamforth CV for Nomination for National Councillor for the North West Region Personal Details Address: 26 Debenham Road, Stretford, Manchester, M32 9DG Date of Birth: 12 December 1978 Relevant Experience as a Cyclist I have been a racing cyclist since the age of 14, when I joined Stretford Wheelers. I grew up racing on the road and the track, competing in the local track leagues (Manchester Regional Track League (Premier Division), ACT Track League and Kirkby Track League) and racing regionally on the road, mostly with men. I also represented the Manchester Division at the TQ Papers 2 Day (now the Ras na mban) in 1997 and won a number of medals on the track and the hill climb in the BUSA Student Championships, whilst studying at the University of Manchester. I stopped racing between 2001 and 2011 due to various reasons, but came back to the sport in 2011, supporting Cath Wiggins races at Salt Ayre in March I competed at a national level in 2013 but a bad crash in 2014 and work commitments since then have meant that my concentration has been more regional since. I enjoy road racing but my main racing now comes in the form of time trialling, which I do when I can. Relevant Experience as a Volunteer My event organisation experience dates back to the late 1990s, when I organised the Manchester Divisional Championships on behalf of Stretford Wheelers and I also organised the Eddie Soens Open Track Meeting at Kirkby, which formed a round of the National Omnium Series. Upon returning to racing in 2012, I noticed that there was no real opportunity for women to race on the road outside of closed circuits/national Series and I worked with British Cycling and CDNW to bring about Regional A level racing for women in the North West, which resulted in the CDNW Women s League in 2013, the first of its kind nationally, as it was restricted to
3 second, third and fourth category women. The series proved popular and other regions have since taken onboard the format, resulting in similar level races now appearing across the UK. I qualified as a coach with the Association of British Cycling Coaches in 2013 and have coached over 200 people over the last four years, mainly under the guise of novice race training, but also on structured rides with the Racing Chance Foundation, a charity established in 2014 to help provide a pathway for women in cycling, of which I am Chair of Trustees. My work in promoting cycling and assisting organisers with their events led to me being awarded the Women s Sports Trust Ambassador of Women s Sport Award in May 2016, ahead of Judy Murray and Ebony Rainford-Brent. Since 2016, I have been working with British Cycling s Coach Education department, with their Ignite Your Coaching programme, which aims to develop and retain female coaches. I was a guest speaker at their Leadership event in May Finally, I continue to organise bike races, both under British Cycling and Cycling Time Trials regulations. National Council I would like to represent the North West Region at National Council as I feel that with the new structure in place, it is now a good time to try and develop the sport at the grassroots, making it more accessible for all. I believe that my experience as a rider, a coach and an event organiser provides me with the right experience and credentials to represent the North West Region at National Council.
