2 ITINERARY DAY 1: SUNDAY, AUGUST 18, 2013 Road Bike: Aspen to Maroon Bells Return Approximately 21 miles with 1,700 feet of climbing Your Trek Travel guides will meet you at the Mountain House Lodge (905 East Hopkins Avenue, Aspen, Colorado) at 11:00 AM on the first day of the trip. Your Pro race adventure begins in the world-famous downtown Aspen, Colorado where a gourmet feast and sweeping views will greet you. After lunch you ll get a professional fitting on your high tech Trek Domane bike before climbing up the iconic twin peaks of the Maroon Bells. With the road closed to vehicles, settle into your climbing rhythm and shake off your travel legs pedaling the 11 mile ascent to the picturesque summit. At the top, stop and take in the rugged beauty of these fourteener peaks and hydrate at the support van before your well deserved scenic descent back to Aspen. Tonight you ll enjoy an exclusive Trek Travel Pro race event as you meet and mingle with representatives of Team RADIOSHACK LEOPARD TREK over drinks and dinner. 3 ITINERARY DAY 3: TUESDAY, AUGUST 20, 2012 Road Bike: Aspen to Eagle via Glenwood Canyon Approximately 75 miles Avid Option: Aspen to Vail via Glenwood Canyon Approximately 111 miles After yesterday s race excitement, enjoy today s tranquil roads on the longest ride of your trip through the endless alpine beauty of the Rockies. You ll start out on the Rio Grande Trail that links the Roaring Forks Valley and affords spectacular mountain views as it winds its way along this old railway. You ll ride over the original rail trestles spanning the Roaring Forks River and past cycling-friendly towns such as Basalt and Carbondale which offer great stops to cool off and grab a drink. In Glenwood, choose to stop for lunch and maybe soak your legs in the famous natural hot springs. Or continue spinning along the mighty Colorado River through the awe-inspiring beauty of Glenwood Canyons before finishing your ride at the base of the mountains surrounding Vail Village. Settle in at the hotel and catch today s race highlights on live TV before joining your fellow travelers for drinks and a hearty dinner. Then hit the sack and rest up for tomorrow s big day of climbing! Hotel Tivoli Lodge DAY 4: WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 21, 2013 Road Bike: Copper Triangle Approximately 78 miles with 5981 feet of climbing Today you ll tackle a Colorado Classic --the renowned Copper Triangle! This spectacular 78-mile loop has an elevation gain of 6,000ft! Start the ride over the infamous Vail Pass where your legs will take you to an elevation of 10,666ft! Then head south and catch your breath before ascending to the 11,318 ft summit of Fremont Pass and winding past the Climax Mine on the fast descent to Leadville. Refuel here with a lunch of your choice before attacking today s final climbs. After passing the remains of the WWII camp of the famed 10th Mountain Division, find your climbing cadence up the mighty peaks of Tennessee Pass and Battle Mountain where you ll cross the continental divide. After a lightning descent, spin along the bike path east toward your finish line in Vail Village. Tonight rest and relax after all today s climbing at a bistro of your choice where you can catch today s Pro highlights ahead of tomorrow s race excitement. 4 ITINERARY DAY 5: THURSDAY, AUGUST 22, 2013 Road Bike: Vail to Beaver Creek Approximately 20 miles with 2055 feet of climbing VIP Passes to USA Pro Cycling Challenge Stage 4 Finish Avid Option: Vail to Beaver Creek Return Approximately 34 miles with 2872 feet of climbing Get ready to feel like a Pro as you ride on the final stretches of Beaver Creek s mountaintop stage finish! Cheering fans will again line your ride route as excitement builds for the Pro cyclists who will follow. Grind your way to the summit on the race course and try to cross the same official finish line the racers will at the end of their long battle today. At the top, a village-wide celebration awaits where you ll cap off your unforgettable Stage 4 experience with VIP viewing access to the official finish. Watch as cycling history is made right in front of you when today s arduous race culminates in a climactic uphill battle as the athletes dig deep for every last ounce of energy in the dash to the finish. After all the excitement you ll take to your bike for the ride back to Vail Village. Or take a stroll through the village for any last minute souvenirs you may want. If you d like some more race action, the exciting Vail Time Trial is just steps away from your door. However you spend the last morning of your trip, depart the hotel at your leisure with a suitcase full of Pro race memories and legs that have met and beat the cycling challenges of the American Rockies. You ll say farewell to your guides at 9:30 AM at the Tivoli Lodge. You may depart at your leisure and arrange your own transportation to the airport or destination of your choice. 6 ARRIVING & DEPARTING HOW TO GET THERE Flights We suggest that you arrive at least one day prior to the trip start, which will enable you to adjust to the time zone and minimize the risk of missing the trip start due to flight-related delays. We recommend that you fly into Denver International Airport (DIA) followed by a short flight to Aspen Pitkin County Airport (ASE). Alternatively, from DIA you can choose to fly into Eagle Country Airport (EGE) and take a one hour and a half shuttle to Aspen. Colorado Mountain Express (CME) operates private and shared shuttles from all the airports to Aspen destinations daily. If you choose to change your trip more than 90 days prior to departure, you may do so with no fee. From days, there will be a $1,000 administrative fee. If you choose to change your trip within 60 days of the original trip start, the cancellation policy outlined above will apply.
